This is my next step on my journey to better health.
Few months ago i heard a podcast with a sleep expert interviewed,
The importance of what she said, and the way she put it,
really resonated with me "for the first time in my life, after years of being a night owl!"
To reset my body, I started waking at the same time every morning
and experienced ... "it's harder to go to bed late... by setting up the a.m. routine."
(am beyond the menopause now.. which happened in my early 40s)
I have a chipmunk bladder too now!
For the last couple of months, I have been trying to get up every day the same time.
Everything you are saying ties in with what I intend to continue doing.
I like the suggestion of (meditation/affirmations are something I've not practised yet)
The 10 minutes gentle exercise, then sit with an audiobook book/ sip water.
Write a to-do list for the day.
I'm going to add these to my recently trialed, new routine .
      💐tysm 😊
I really think I messed my body up over the yrs/had onset of chronic illness.
I now think Due to the fact " i used to skip breakfast in my teens 20s 30s and 40s!"...neglecting my needs,
but feeding my children, breakfast lunch and dinner always.
(i used to skip lunch often.. but always made a home-cooked meal- ate with the family at dinner time)
I don't think I was getting enough nourishment for my body to function well .
I can see now where I went wrong .
My parents had me in a very good routine growing up . Which I succeeded to give my children
(Now I'm now putting right , the neglect I did to myself).

I got up early all my life and hated it every single day until I developed a depression, left office work for freelance and just decided to go to bed and get up when my body wanted it. now I get up between 10 and 11am and man have I ever been happier :) my husband works noon to midnight so he has a similar regime. we know doctors advise otherwise, but it's so comfortable for us both!

I read somewhere how we all have slightly different circadian rhythms because there was a time when it was dangerous if we were all sleeping at the same time. Someone had to be on guard to watch for predators. It seems to make sense and I feel like after much trial and error I’m happiest with an 11-12 bedtime and 7-8 wake time.

I'm so glad you wrote about your experience! I've tried waking up early so many times and there were periods of my life when I had to because of my work schedule. Never got used to it and I just became more tired and more depressed. Slept through my weekends for 4years as weekdays I had to get up 4.30-5am to get to work. My social life disappeared and I'm still struggling to get it back even though I left that job 4years ago. I think, if you are a morning person, definitely, go for it and make the most out of your mornings! But if you know you're more of an afternoon/evening one, pushing yourself to wake up early will only result in exhaustion where you won't be able to work/live productively at all because your usual active period is compromised.

YES! The Power of When book has changed my life! I am a late night person. We're only 15% of the population. I have been able to mostly get to bed near midnight and wake without an alarm by 7:30-8 am. My previous normal was 2 a.m. bedtime and using the eating times has helped me to feel ready for bed earlier. I'm so glad you found the rhythm that works for you!! I love that it fits with your husband's schedule, too!

Same case, I had to be up early for school or work, and for seasons I only slept 3 to 5 hours during week days and all I could during weekends. Then I decided not to adapt my sleep to other people's lives, but create a life around my own needs. I sleep a lot more now, live more relaxed, and save more money than ever before. Have been losing weight, feeling stronger and simply happier and healthier. In the long run is bette to optimize our lives to fit for our bodies needs than sacrifice our bodies to fit all the demands and expectations. Living by other people standards was no life.

These tips are helpful, but circadian rhythms are a very real thing. I have seen a sleep doctor for years due to Restless Leg Syndrone, and she has confirmed that there are physical limits to how much you can change your own natural physiology. Within reason, it doesnt matter so much what your schedule is, so long as you keep the same consistent schedule each day. BTW, there are also several studies that show a positive correlation between creativity and a later circadian rhythm. So it's not all bad!

28-plus of 33 years at the Plant, worked 7-Day Rotating Shifts.
Seven 8x4’s (two days off) Seven 4x12’s (two days off) Seven 12x8’s (three days off)
Absolutely no way to get into a routine other than work (never mind working days off, double shifts, staying over or coming in early before your Shift)
Going to Straight Days the last 2-1/2 years (different job, Dad was dying of cancer) made no difference; getting up early I felt horrible. Put on weight (not walking around as much as on Shifts) and slumped over the wheel going into work. I even got up at 5 to have an hour-plus of peace (during COVID-19 in 2020, we were allowed to come in earlier and leave earlier, if one wished to) before my day began.
Rotating Shifts are inhumane. All mornings, days or nights, much better health-wise. Preparing for the next day before going to bed makes a difference, but for me even retirement didn’t work for 3 years-plus (still felt horrible, ate badly, spent unwisely, no motivation) until finally I could go to bed early and arise early…NO ALARM CLOCK staring at me during insomnia periods, just waking up at sunrise as nature intended, going for walks, working out, *then* saying alright what needs doing, requires my attention?
All good advice above, but the best I can give is stop working terrible hours. The money ain’t worth it, and you’re not being compensated fairly enough anyway to work crazy hours, weekends, holidays, double-shifts. One life, don’t abuse it. 👍

Early risers eat better, earn more money, and are happier than people who sleep in late because the world is built for early birds. If businesses and services didn't open until noon and stayed open until midnight, those results would be reversed. As I commented on Ariel's channel, I'm happy this works for you. I honestly cannot handle waking up early it makes me physically ill, to the point of hospitalization. My body hates it, no matter how early I go to sleep. All of the benefits you listed are things that are also easily done late at night after everyone else goes to bed, so that's the magic hour for me.

I don't have a lot of memories of it! Lol! My perfect sleeping time is from midnight to 7:30-8 a.m. I CAN get up early, but regardless of how much sleep I get, if I have to get up before 7:00 a.m., I feel like crap for the first couple of hours. I tease my early bird friends by telling them they have FOMO and I don't. 😂

🔴I use an alarm for bedtime NOT to wake up. Sleep is THE most important thing you can give your body for health, work, hobbies, and relationships. So... if my body needs sleep, I'm not going to restrict what is needed.
🔴What about work? What about deadlines?
    - I have a "BACKUP" alarm set in case I oversleep. But it's a "backup." It's not set to wake me up on a regular basis. If I'm being awakened by my alarm, then that means I'm not getting the sleep I NEED. So.... I set my bedtime alarm to go off earlier.
I keep adjusting my bedtime until I can awaken naturally in the morning. Only when you're awakening naturally are you getting all the sleep your body needs. You don't have to guess at how many hours you "should" get.
Besides, what we need changes. A stressful day, a little illness, sunlight, time of the month, all these things change what we need day to day.
Going to bed at the same time AND waking up at the same time is like feeding your body the same amount of food everyday without taking into account extra physical activity. It doesn't make sense.
Also, I let myself enjoy an activity (in bed) to make waking up a joy: listen to music, listen to a podcast or TH-cam creator, mentally list what I'm grateful for, lay there and watch the sunrise. It's "ME" time.
THEN I'll start my workout or whatever.
    -Trust me. It's worth trying.❤

I'm all out of rhythm/schedule at the moment. I think I need two bedtime alarms. One about and hour before I want to be in bed, to remind me to start going to bed - potter/gentle clean up, shower, teeth etc. Then another maybe 15mins before I want to turn my light out, and actually go to sleep. I figure if I turn my light out about 9hrs before my back-up alarm goes off. That should allow me time to fall asleep, sleep, and wake up naturally before it goes off. And like you say - if I find I'm regularly still asleep when my back up alarm goes off, then I need to start going to bed earlier.

My husband and I both have alarm clocks nearly identical to the one you showed. The volume on mine recently broke (couldn't turn it down) so I finally broke down and use my phone now. My husband's is still on his nightstand though. Mornings are the best time of the day! Before I start working from home at 9 I've already been up for 4 hours exercising, eating breakfast, spending time with the dog, showering and getting ready. The older I get, the more I love mornings.

I get up early too. After taking care of the pets, I head out to walk a 5k every morning. I get my steps in, but it is also good thinking time, good audiobook time, and sometimes an opportunity to catch up with friends. If for some reason I don’t get my walk in during the morning, I will do it when the sun sets and it cools down. That hour always sets me up for a good day or a restful sleep.

My cronotype is so upset at the Miracle Morning and the lack of understanding that not everyone is designed for mornings. I also literally can't change my sleep schedule. I have teens. I have to pick people up from work anywhere from 10:30 to 12:30. I also need three hours to wake up in the morning and most of them have to be quiet thought and then into journaling and planning. I can't do anything physical in the morning.

My struggle is that I have 2 young boys, 2 and 5, and several times as soon as I get out of bed (at 5:30) they also decide that they need to get up. This has made waking up early less enjoyable because my routine is getting constantly interrupted. I am going to keep trying though!

I have always been a morning person. Being born in the winter I have never had an issue with getting up when it's dark outside but the summer can sometimes have the opposite effect. I do set an alarm for 4:30 a.m. but always wake up at least fifteen minutes before it goes off. On the weekends my body naturally wants to wake up around 3:45 a.m. I love an early start. I have warm lemon water, meditate, do affirmations, workout, take care of my plants, have a healthy meal, go for a walk and maybe even do some housework/laundry. Most importantly, I'm always in a positive mood and feel good throughout the day.

I read Miracle Morning years ago and tried to implement a morning routine, but in my stage of life I was in with a toddler, it just didn't happen. My son is older now and I have a pretty good "before school" morning routine with the both of us while my husband still sleeps. However, it may be time for me to enjoy some alone time to get my exercise in and a few housekeeping tasks before my son wakes up and we get ready for school and I head to work. Thanks for the video. I also follow Ariel and watched her video. I enjoy your collabs together.

Thanks so much for this video. I also subscribed to your friend's TH-cam channel, too. I am NOT a morning person though my M-F day job requires me to wake up earlier. I actually need more time to ease into my day, than the time it actually takes me to get ready. I appreciate all suggestions to make this less painful. 😊

A ninety pound black lab is an amazing alarm clock and walking coach. It could be the neighbors' roosters (yes multiple of both) encouraging him, but maybe just his internal clock.

Thank you, the tips are really helpful. I would like to add to the glass of water, I hate cold water in the morning, my body always starts freezing, except it is 30 C outside - and that is not so often even in summer- , so I prepare an insulated can and have warm water, so being able to stay relaxed . The quote of Jim Rohn I like best. These routines you do remind me of the 5 tibetan Moves, if so, I can assure you that turning left side (where normally your heart is) round is even more helpful and nourishing - I learned that from a Sufi Master-. So, again manay thanks and thriving life!!!

I think the idea of getting up early also depends on your stage in life. I got up early my entire working life to be at work by 6:30 AM because I hated getting off work at 5 PM. One of the first things I did when I retired was remove my alarm clock from my bedroom I get up these days at about 8 AM which works fine for this retired person who doesn't need to get up and who has all day to do everything. I think the video is really interesting and I think at your stage of life it probably works out well for you, but I can tell you it's not gonna happen for me.

I have ADHD and have difficulties getting to sleep. I saw a video by psychiatrist Dr Tracey Marks where she recommended to take low dose (0,1-0,3 mg) of melatonin 4 hours before going to bed. I bought liquid melatonin and take only one drop (whereas the normal dose would be 10 drops=2mg) and by 10-11 pm I'm already asleep. So this way at 7 in the morning I'm fully awake. Naturally I wake up at 9-10 and go to sleep at 12-1 at night, but I find that when I do this I become more depressed, so waking up earlier makes me somehow more stable. But I have to say that I work from home and I have free timetable.

I've had this alarm clock since the '60s and it's still in use on my desk which is located outside my bedroom, and so there's no way to hit a snooze button. Unfortunately with my job, sometimes I have to get up at 5:00 and then give myself 30 minutes to wake up and continue working on my "homework" from my job the day before. When you have many times 15-plus hour workdays, nothing in life is really normal except never getting enough sleep.

Everyone has a different rhythm. I was always more a night owl than an early morning person.. working well until 3am when younger... but
Then menopause hits! With insomnia and hot flushes...add in depression, anxiety and you are tired all the time...because you dont get good sleep.. which continued from having kids (I was a "geriatric" mum).
I wake up at 0630 (to get out the house at 0715 to get kids to school at 0745 and work by 0830). Feel like death. Usually manage 6-7hrs broken sleep.. often awake 0200-0400... usually after 3-4hrs sleep.
Going to sleep is never my problem ..in bed 0930-10pm..and asleep by 10-1030. ..it is staying asleep that is my issue due to the above. But sometimes its later if i need to do some work as prep for the next day.
I prefer sport in the evening before shower and bed... not mornings... although i do love early morning walks.

I’m wondering if you (or anyone reading this ) can help me with a particular challenge that I have regarding getting up early. I readily see the benefits of it and right now in my life I need it more than ever.
However, I am a registered nurse and I work the 3 PM to 11 PM shift. Even if I get out on time, which I usually don’t, I’m not even getting home until 11:30 PM and I find it difficult to go immediately to sleep so it is typical for me to not even go to sleep until two or 3 AM. And worse, Because it’s so late at night and the rest of the world is already sleeping. I tend to just find it very easy to slump on the couch and binge watch TH-cam videos and I often end up falling asleep on the couch and waking up on the couch, which is another very bad habit.
I guess my question is number one. Does anyone who might work shifts have any advice on what helps you get to sleep earlier? And also do you think that the miracle morning routine is still effective even if you can’t get up anywhere close to 5 AM. Like if I can’t fall asleep until 3 AM, I would have to sleep until 11 AM just to get eight hours which I definitely am someone who needs eight hours.
Right now and in this time of my life, it would be difficult for me to change jobs so I’m hoping to find some tips and adapt the routine to my own schedule because I am in a wicked bad slump and I really need to get back on track and feeling better about myself.
Thank you again for your video and anyone’s feedback would be welcome.❤

To all the people who are against the early mornings...early mornings are great for some of us because we have children who wake up early and our moods and day can go so much better when we have that time to ourselves before our children wake up! If 5am doesn't appeal to you then I don't see why you watched this (or That Akward Mom's) video. If you just came for the tips then quit complaining about the time. Why do people feel the need to post their negativity? If this doesn't work for you it's okay, they're suggestions for those who may benefit from them.

Sometimes I have to remind myself, that I am not a less productive person if the mere idea of exercising before 8-9 am gives me nausea and that I do NOT miss out if I wake up at 8. My miracle hour is 10-12pm, lets normalize that.
These tips are not for people with irregular or nonexistent schedules, who have severe problems waking up with 10 alarms let alone vibrations and so. This is targeted to people who want to wake up at 7:30 and now are waking up at 6:30 or 5, not for people who really struggle with mornings.

And then there are the Southern Europeans (I'm Italian but I'm sure Spanish people can relate) that have dinner at 8 or 9 (or later) and need to wait at least until 11-12 to digest and go to bed, but still have to be at work at 9.
I am lucky because I can be in the office anytime between 8 and 10 (still need to work all my hours, so if I get in at 10 I work until 7 pm - we have 1 hour lunch break that is compulsory). Before Covid I used to wake up at 6:30, but working from home for almost one year let my body wake up more naturally at 7:30-8. Then I had to go back to working in the office, I had to add back my 1-hour commute, but I could not put my waking time back to 6:30, the alarm is set at 7 at the moment. No way I could ever get up at 5 😂
