  • How to diagnose and repair ABS system on Volvo 940 or 740.
    Volvo 940 Turbo series
I got a Volvo 940 for free, just had to pick it up. It did not have a working clutch, but the engine started, I pumped up all the wheels and started the car in first gear (manual transmission), which got it running and drive it home shifting without a clutch. I made videos of all the repairs that I did to the car before selling it. Join my on this series of videos and follow the progress.

Thanks for the great video. At the end, the ABS light on the dash was still on? How do you get it to go off? thanks - or perhaps it was the light-bulb warning light that I saw?

I am pretty sure that the abs light was off, I didn't have any more issues with the abs. I am not sure what light's are on in the dash at the end of the video.

@@BagheeraTube Thanks. I have the same issue with my 940, and since my last comment, I bought a new sensor and plugged it in, and the dash-light went off (I thought you might need to connect some electronic scanning device to re-set the warning light, as is needed with the air-bag).
Without taking the calliper & wheel bearing off, the cylinder at the sensor on my car looks a lot wider than the cylinder on the new sensor - I noticed on the Skandix website there is a copper coloured sensor holder or sleeve that slides in from the wheel side (Volvo part number 1387273). Do you know if I need to buy one of those too? Thanks

@@kingofdubb2133 sorry this is beyond me, in Sweden these cars are common and parts too, in different regions the supply of parts can be very different. But my new sensor did not fit that easy, the old on was stuck and the hole needed cleaning. After a lot of electric wire brushing I got it to fit.

@@BagheeraTube Thanks, I'm replacing the wheel bearing at the same time (I have a 36mm socket) so hopefully that will make it a bit easier

Do you have a source for the ABS sensor for 940 or 240 Volvo? I'm ready to drill it out like you had to do, but I have no source for this sensor in front. Advice?

You mean where to buy it? I just used some random site that sell car parts, but scrapyard probably have them also.

This is a 1991, I hope that help.

    Can I use the head off a 2004 940 turbo wagon on my 1994 940 non-turbo sedan?

According to the Wikipedia page 940 was produced during 91-98, here in Sweden. So are you sure that it is a 940 -04? If it is a 940 it is possible that the heads could fit, but they could be some differences, I am not an expert on these cars.

Now you just need to get that starting issue fixed.

    • @BagheeraTube

Yeah, this car has 2 fuelpumps, the one in the tank was dead. After replacing that one the starting issue disappeared.
