Had this happen to me last week on my 4th day of owning the Mini 2. I hadn't done much research into the RTH feature. I was out a little less than 10,000 feet from my home point and lost signal. I left my controller on the porch and started to get my boots on to go for a hike to find my drone. As I got in the truck, I saw little Hank (yes, it's name is Hank) setting down only about 18 inches from where he took off.
...And my heartrate returned to normal.

Always check it is selected on the right choice for your situation, mostly you want RTH but sometimes there might be a situation where you want it to hover!

If the signal is lost the drone automatically goes into RTH mode after about 10 seconds. The signal should re-establish once it has come back into range. Time to panic is when it doesn't after a couple of minutes. (Always set default RTH height to at least 80m).

@@mikeryan2388 RTH isn't always a good solution because you must be careful with wind. If the wind is too strong then is the DECREASE option the best because in RTH mode the drone is set to go up to the max limited height and then to return. Problem is that the more you go up, the wind is stronger and often resulting with losing the drone.

As others are started it is very important to set your RTH mode before take-off or during as needed...
If nothing else just enable on Signal loss RTH.
A low battery will always RTH regardless there are two settings on most of the drones RTH on low battery this Is automatic and can be overridden with the RC but not turned off. RTH on signal loss this one you can enable or disable.
Now for more advanced longer flights you wish to use the following instead (but these both carry more risk)
Dynamic Home Point = Drone will RTH at the point your controller is or was last, so say you driving around with some buddies the drone will attempt to come to your RC signal and not where it took off from.
Manual Home Set: self-explained you can tap somewhere on the map and set the HOME location there instead this is useful when you are doing a long flight and need to set it down somewhere closer as the battery might be an issue due to range, you can do this if for example when you are happy to drive to a different location while it travels out to that location and u just want to meet up with it midway and need a fail-safe location closer along the route.
For really advanced flights you would actually send it pretty high and just disable RTH on signal loss, again this will not circumvent the battery-low warning RTH
but this will allow the drone to keep going on the mission and you can just drive closer to regain signal, some of the DJI drones actually offer multi-device support like the Mavic 2 Pro you can connect two RC to that and then you can have someone closer to take over if needed, alternatively you can get different apps some of which offer more advanced flight.
Some more pro drones like the Inspirev2 and Matrice line up those actually can have multiple stations to set up to monitor them and act as fail overs when the signal is lost.

After 1/2 mile, signal lost and got the message about drone RTH and the control beep until it landed. Not sure if this is going to be a normal 1/2 mile radius thing or is it just the suburban area i am in. i try to point signal toward the drone but no luck. I will try again on a clear sky day to see if this is a weather thing or not. Hope its more than 1/2 miles next time.

A wee tip, unless youve figured it out by now, change to the Attitude indicator in the bottom left in place of the map, that way you can see your orientation to the drone, line them up and you have line of sight horizontally, then slowly raise and lower the controller's antenna on a vertical sweep till you get the strongest connection, over fields in CE mode it should easily do 3.5km, I am sure you would have reached your destination at least even with interference...

Signal loss for mine started about 700-1000’ out reliably. Ended up returning my unit due to issue replicating itself every time I flew. There are tons of us experiencing this same issue. DJI customer support said to make sure everything is up to date on board aircraft and remote and should fix problems, but it doesn’t. Hopefully you have more patience than me in waiting on fix.

It's no big Deal. DONT PANIC DJI drones, even the cheap ones just fly a straight path home given you have adequate battery charge left. I have a P3 and a Mavic Pro Platinum and both just return home when signal is lost. I've tested this quite a few times as a confidence builder The Platinum usually gets to within an inch or so of the take-off point while the P3 is sloppy.... within a couple of feet.. The No1 rule is to make certain the drone has GPS lock before you fly. You may also want to set the 'fly home' height to 300-400 feet, for tree and building avoidance. Make a pre-flight checklist, and *use* it, every time. Fly safe!

What happened to that lost spark? How did u loose it? I have both of these drones and they always come back. I used a little hack to make spark think that it is in US ( Im in europe- latvia) and I used parabolic antenna mirrors, and managet to push that little spark 4km away, and then it lost signal. It was over sea, and I thought "bye bye spark" but no, it came back :) so how did U loose your spark again? :)

God knows it had a breakdown was using follow me then it was gone ... I thought it had gone to home from losing signal but it had flown over my head and landed in a field took me a week to find it ... but it works well and will be using it in Scotland

I have lost signal a few times but yesterday was a bit scary. I flew from a park in London Class D airspace, keeping under 60 metre height due to location restrictions and got the signal loss at 430 metres. It went to RTH after a few seconds and tried rise to height I had set which was higher than 60 metres but wouldn't go higher than 60. All sorts of messages were popping up, one saying it will force land at 20% battery then it just hovered! I had over 80% battery so this is where a bit of panic kicked in. It basically just hovered for what seemed like ages, probably was only 10-15 seconds, I think I may have hit RTH on controller not sure but I went into settings lowered RTH height to 60 metres and eventually got it returning back. At 370 metres I cancelled RTH and took control from there. The hovering part may have been due to hitting the pause button on controller which doubles as the RTH button, not sure though. Anyway I think for safety and less confusion they should sperate this function on the controller. Don't Panic! 😅. Enjoy your trip 👍.
Edited: You can also add a strobe drone light and still keep Mini 2 under 250grams. The Ulanzi DR-02 works well in low light and It will help you spot it better at greater distances while up in Scotland...

Here is a good video from Crooked Imaging's TH-cam channel where he shows the strobe set up, weight, plus a custom mount and effective distance that you can still keep drone in line of sight. Worth a watch... th-cam.com/video/jD8ysvs72BY/w-d-xo.html

If you fly legally (VLOS) you never get issues like this. There's a reason BVLOS is prohibited with current consumer drones. Someday soon we'll have legal BVLOS but not yet. Have patience.

It's normal for me to lose connection. I have the Mavic Mini....I'm waiting for the new Mavic Mini 2s/3 or what DJI call it. I've only panicked once....I'd sent it out about just under a 1 mile away from a hill I was standing on when I lost contact with my drone, it said RTH.....then it said on the screen " Signed Out" or something. My screen was black, I was panicking...it came back eventually...there was no live RTH footage....the only reason I knew it was near was I could hear it. It actually went out the way to RTH and when I did spot it it was coming in from the north east when I'd sent it southwards....wind wise...there was next to no wind nor gusts. Now I never panic.

If you fly higher the reception should be better, but I have seen that in the UK the distance is not the same as other county varients. Probably best flying over an area you know you can get to and land it and use drone finder to collect it. but be careful as flying a drone out of sight can land you in deep shit in the UK. Also fly backwards dont turn around this is why you lost it a second time.Edit

Always check your rth altitude and as previously stated that you choose rth and not hover and not land as it will land in its current location rather than return to you. Bear in mind you can change rth location in flight if you wish.

If you are flying in a large interference area, try manually putting the drone in 5.8 gigahertz instead of 2.4. The 5.8 is better for high interference areas, 2.4 works best in low interference areas.

Make sure its set to return to take off point and not controller if you doing range, if the signal goes and its set to return to controller, it does not know where controller is once signal is lost and just hovers where it is.

I did that to in my first week of having the drone, i was like 1km distance then i decided to take a closer look at a sheppard and some sheeps, when i descended the drone basicly was on the othe side of the hill so it lost connection instantly, i wasnt affraid to lose it as it was in an open field , but that sheppard saw the drone hovering and had a stick in his hand. i was like this guy gonna beat the sht out of my drone. luckly i had RTH and the drone went up and reconnected

The antennas on your Controller are directional...This means you need to keep them pointed at the Drone at all times. This is what the Compass is for (which evidently you failed to use)...There is also a RTH button on your Controller so you don't need to rely on Auto RTH settings...🤔🤔😳🇬🇧

2:20 Power lines at 10 o'clock. Power lines can interfere with the rc signal and when you were just flying a little closer to them.
