Give you a heads up if you would have spoken to Navigator Pressly & Doctor Chakwas it would have given you points, information on the mission, characters & affect future conversations. Running past npc's that are casually talking like that are usually trying to lure you in before your objective. Up to you are not😊
No one is ever able to read the entire opening narration before the title comes up.

Don't worry about asking questions, or stopping to talk to every individual you can (you skipped two people to talk to right at the beginning of the game). Always investigate. That's the type of game it is and adds to the richness of the experience. This is building the world for you, well maybe not the world but a whole Galaxy.

With your final comments of the video regarding dialogue… I’d try and exhaust all the dialogue with people when talking to them. I know it can be a little tedious at times, but the more you talk, the more lore you get.
This lore of this universe is just so spectacular. The sooner you really grasp everyone’s motivations, struggles, conflicts, etc. the decisions you make really have a lot of weight added to them. Adds a lot to the experience.
“Taking too long” as you’re concerned about is exactly what the Mass Effect community LOVES to see. They will show up in droves for first timers who do it and as you can see, we’re already here!
Have an absolute blast! Your sniper skills are impressive. We have a future infiltrator on our hands.

I’m always happy to see a new play through of Mass Effect so I’m very happy to be along for the ride. It looks like most of the important basics have been covered in other comments so I’ll just echo the sentiment that this is YOUR Shepard and to make the decisions you or your Shepard would make and not worry about comments if people want to hate on what you decide. This is a well loved series and people get very excited about it, I really hope it stays positive and you enjoy these games. I’m subbed and looking forward to sharing your journey.

Edit : I doubt people who like/love the game would be bothered if you select every "invesgation" dialogue options, it's an important part of the game afterall. Even reading the codex on camera, but if you fear people would skip it, do it at the end of the video.

Enjoy this marvel. I won't be telling you what to do, but I'll have you know that this game rewards exploration (in all ways) is lore-heavy and dialogs are part of it. "Investigating" gives you info, codex entries and XP. If you decide that fight is too easy and increase the level - the game appreciates your tactical skills (commanding team mates, especially about positions to hold) and use of cover. Fans of this game love to see your reaction to EVERYTHING, so don't worry if you want to explore dialog options, we're here for that too. Welcome to the family!

Just found your recent video (ME2 #17) today. Started it and immediately had the nostalgia hit me hard so here I am at the very beginning of it all. Can't wait to get caught up with you and enjoy the ride.
A good portion of the game is involved with talking to the NPCs and it helps you get more involved in the mass effect universe. You will play how you want, but I would recommend listening to a lot of the conversations you have. Glad you chose infiltrator and look forward to more of your playthrough.

(16:28) When you are choosing from these responses, the upper right response is typically a "paragon" response: something cooperative, altruistic, or friendly. The lower right response is typically a "renegade" response: something antagonistic, dismissive, or selfish. The middle right response will be relatively neutral. Choices on the left tend to let you ask for clarification. A response that is colored blue or red is an especially strong "paragon" or "renegade" response that can have major consequences later in the game; you often need to have advanced to a certain level of the Paragon or Renegade attribute to be able to choose these responses.

Your joy playing this game the first time...this is why I love gaming. I love seeing people happy like this.
The first Mass Effect (the original, I haven't played this edition) is for me one of the best games ever made. At least if you are interested into story based games.
As others said in the comments, explore everything and talk to everyone if you want to get the full on experience. Of course this is not for everyone, gamers or viewers, but in the end it is up to you.
One suggestion though, and I realize you have already more episodes up, if you are going to put points into your dialogue skills, don't skip dialogues. :)
One last thing, at least how I used to play the game, I always let the friendly characters auto level up. Call me lazy or just more role playing (they have their own mind after all :p )

Recommended by the algorithm. Nice reaction. The story arc over these 3 games is huge and unforgettable regardless of the age of the games. The lore in these games I and the world building is huge. You should select "investigate" for every conversation otherwise you will miss out on some of the colour in this galaxy. It gets you invested in your character and the missions and informs your decision. Remember the is an RPG so make the decisions you would make and see where they lead you. Bear in mind some decisions affect outcomes in future games. Be ready to fall in love!

Just wanted to say...talking, listening and reading about the lore is a huge part of this wonderful trilogy. These games have a huge following and most of us watching know this and are here for it too. No need to skip anything for us. It'll improve your experience with these games too, to learn as much about the history and the motivations of the various species. It's one of the best things about this story. Not to mention there are many great moments you'll miss out on by skipping dialogue. As a general rule, the 'investigate' option to the left of the dialogue wheel will give you more information on the topic at hand. To the right of the dialogue wheel are more decision-making options and to move things on or end conversations. Taking it slowly to absorb what's going on is the best advice. From a veteran to whom this trilogy is my favourite. There is so much more to come, but I'll shut up for now!🤗
Okay, just a bit more....and well done on disarming those bombs after taking a bit of a detour while the timer was running. Regarding your skill tree, you need to put three points in Pistols in order to unlock your sniper rifle skill. (as far along as the little triangle symbol) - It's the same for all the other greyed out skills. Put enough points in to get to the little triangle in the skill above to unlock the greyed out one below it. And welcome to this wonderful world! You're gonna love it!🙂As you progress there will be lots to read and listen to in the 'Codex' menu option too.

please don't skip the conversations, gathering and understanding information is part of this game's intended gameplay. this game is like talk more, think more, fight less and most of the people here who have played mass effect and are here to watch you react are also not here to watch the gunfight but your reaction to the story/lore

1:40 so one game I play had random suggestions of names and I kept clicking through them until I landed on "Florence Howard". and I liked the sound of that :)
I wanted to add that if you want to unlock a skill that is greyed out you can unlock it by putting points into the skill above it. Just in case someone hasn’t already commented on that.

Jane Shepard was actually the original Shepard so this is one of those games where (as a male) I prefer to play as a female than a male (Cyberpunk is another one). Her voice acting (Jennifer Hale) is SUPERB. Hope you enjoy your Mass Effect journey. Some of the best characters, voice acting, writing and sci-fi in all of gaming history.

Gonna make some food and start watching. Subbing instantly if you go through the full dialogue trees of all characters and are genuinely interested in the story & learning about the ME universe, cause if so, it's gonna be a journey myself and others in the community will want to experience vicariously through your playthrough. Closest thing to playing the trilogy again for the first time for all of us.

Oh man, I so envy people who play this for the first time, not knowing how much excitement is ahead. Don t worry too much about your decisions . . . just go along with your " intuitions ". :D . . . usually ppl play several playthroughs anyway to try out different outcomes - or just save early enough and replay with a differnt choice. I wish you the most fun possible playing this ! :)

@@LucilleGirlGamerJust be aware that those Paragon and Renegade points are important - those give you later in the game additional dialogue options . . . one of those will safe a team mate of you, which you otherwise would have to kill. . . . also, make sure not to get Ashley killed towards the end of this part one of the game, haha.

Please, go through all the dialogue options *you* want to. Those of us who've played the game before will enjoy watching you react to some of our favourite lines, and be sad if you miss out on them. Or we should be.

Choices only matter in Mass Effect 2 because you have to upgrade the ship to keep everyone alive and you have to have enough good or bad points to keep Miranda alive because an argument lead to losing her loyalty.

I'm not going to back seat too much but this game relays heavy on paragon(good) renegade (bad) paragon are always the top choice in dialogue while renegade is the bottom option in dialogue, neutral being the straight down the middle option, you should choose early if you want to be a good guy or bad guy further in the game it will help you massively, and always try to investigate to learn more about the conversation taking place. Leveling up charm and intimate early on will help you unlock additional dialogue options
This game is dialogue heavy and most people that watch these games with someone that plays for the first time really enjoy watching you discover the lore of the game this is done thru most of the dialogue and codex, I would say for the sake of understanding go thru everything if you feel like it's a lot then you can cut it from the video but most will enjoy you learning the lore

(25:35) Improving weapon skills usually improves the damage output; if you want to be able to improve your Sniper Rifle skill, you'll need five points in Pistols. Decryption allows you to open locks. Electronics increases your shield strength. Fitness increases your health. Damping neutralizes enemy tech abilities. First Aid increases the amount of health restored by medi-gel. Advancing skills can unlock combat powers and access to other skills. It never hurts to improve Charm (Paragon) or Intimidate (Renegade), but you don't need both.

As a viewer, I would like to see the unique playthrough by a person who plays without spoilers for the first time. The last thing I would like to see is another “perfect” playthrough, because I already have beaten the game countless times by myself and can beat it again at any time. It is interesting to see how another person tries to make a good choice, not knowing what lies ahead, and as a result sometimes makes mistakes, which leads to consequences that are unpredictable in advance.

Don't skip the dialogue, please. That's why I'm here. 😭
A few tips:
- In the options menu, under the gameplay tab, make sure that your squad's power usage option is set to "Active". If it's set to "Defensive", then they won't help you out enough in battles.
- In the 'Squad' tab where you level up your characters, the 4 most important categories are Charm (Paragon), Intimidate (Renegade), Electronics, and Decription.
- Charm and intimidate (blue words and red words respectively)are the best options during conversations. When your skill level in either is not high enough, then they'll be grayed out and unselectable.
- When deciding which dialogue option to choose, the location of the comment is VERY important. Dialogue options on the left expand on a topic. Dialogue on the right moves the conversation forward. The top left and top right choices give Paragon points. The bottom right and bottom left give Renegade points. The middle left and right are neutral options and give no points. Certain moments in the game will require Shepard to pass certain Paragon or Renegade "checkpoints" in order to not be grayed out. The game never tells you what those checkpoints are. Sometimes, you can put off a conversation for later, so that you have more time to build your charm and intimidate levels. Other times, you have to choose an answer right away, and must live with the consequences.
- Some of the dialogue options don't seem to fit the tone you're going for. You'll think that you're just being friendly, but the other person will think you're flirting. Or you think that you're just giving a simple "No.", but then Shepard pulls out a gun and threatens to kill them. Sometimes the top and bottom dialogue options go to the extremes, and a neutral response works better.
- Electronics and Decription skills help you unlock side missions, unlock doors, and open containers filled with useful items.
- The Mako tank that you ride around in when exploring doesn't take any fall damage, so you can drive right off of cliffs without worrying about taking damage. It also has an option to zoom in from really long distances for more accurate shots.
- When selecting an offensive abilitiy in battle, make sure that your cursor is aimed directly on the enemy you're targeting. Otherwise, it won't work.
- When visiting shops, make sure you purchase anything that's either a "License" or "Unique Item". Tbey're usually found at the bottom of any store's list of items and are very cheap. Unique items upgrade your inventory limits. Lincenses allow you to purchase the items in each shop you visit from the quartermaster on your ship, so you don't have to constantly visit every shop. The drawback of every item being purchaseable on your ship is that your quartermaster chargers a little more than buying directly from each shop.
-The best weapons and gear are purchased from the Spectre Requisitions Office. They'll be too expensive at first, but later in the games, their stats will still be better than everything else. When trying to decide whether new equipment is better than what you currently have equipped, it's easier to just go by the top stat. For example, on weapons, the 3 stats are: Damage (top stat), Shots Before Overheat (middle stat), and Accuracy Rating (bottom stat). The most important one is the top stat, which is Damage. You can apply the same guideline to other euipment, like your armor, omni-tool, and biotic amp; just focus on whicher item has the best top stat.
- It's a good idea to chat with all of your teammates after every priority mission; that's (usually) the only times they have something new to say. Some characters in the background (NPCs) also say new things after certain missions have been completed.
- YOUR CHOICES MATTER. They often carry over to Mass Effect 2 and 3. Not just with main characters, but with background characters as well. You will sometimes hear about the results of your choices in news feeds, or in emails sent to you in ME 2 and 3.
- If you keep forgetting to level up your characters, you can always go to the Options menu and set the game to automatically level up Shepard, your squadmates, or both.
- Your squadmates will sometimes have dialogue that's specific to your current location. For example, they might comment on a nearby sculpture, or the decor of a specific room.
- Shepard's locker (right outside the med bay on your ship someimes has new items that you can collect after priority missions.
- Inside your ship's med bay, there is a station on the wall that lets you replenish your med kit inventory after every mission.
Most of these tips aren't really necessary; they're just things I found helpful. Just have fun playing however YOU want to play. There will be people in the comments complaining about your choices (I see it on everyone's first playthrough), but just keep playing how you want to play it. Looking forward to taking this adventure with you. 😊

depending on the type of player you want to me (good/paragon, rebel/renegade) you’ll want to spend your points on charm or intimidate early so that you have more dialogue options available.
Since you’re a tech, i would avoid bringing other tech based companions on missions with you as you are filling that role

Choose the dialog YOU want. If people want to skip past it they can do so but sometimes you can learn helpful information from the dialog choices.

@thefiendish186 You misunderstood my point. I wasn't talking about "disliking" the dialogue; that's everyone's right. I was talking about "complaining " about the dialogue.
People can dislike something without "complaining" about it, which is what she said was happening in other playthroughs. Everyone should be able to play any game the way they want. And as I said, if someone is a fan of a series, they're not going to complain to a new player for playing how they want. There's a difference between "complaining" and "voicing a disinterested" in something. To me, those 2 things are not interchangeable; one is clearly negative and a new player doesn't deserve it.

(45:10) When the fighting gets close, you may find your pistol more useful.
IMO a sniper is the best unit to play since you can take out targets at range without putting yourself &/or your squad at greater danger from a close-range fight. I also recommend you check you squad regularly to make sure they are leveled up & have the best equipment available to them.

You have to be careful so that your thing doesn't overheat. But when it does you can switch to your other thing instead of just waiting for your thing to cool down.

This game is as much about the characters, narrative lore and world building conveyed through conversations. The game is less rich by missing parts of conversation. My recommendation: talk to everyone about everything. Though people speed running can also enjoy the game, there isn't a right way to play it, find your own rhythm.
If you want to be nice to people level up charm rather than intimidate.

This is the 3rd girl i have watched play this game and all 3 have failed to read the intro fast enough 😂
also because of your class your best with pistols and snipers, and some of you skills are locked untill you upgrade the unlocked ones. ie pistol needs to be upgraded so you can upgrade sniper.

Also I didn't realize there was character creation in this game, I thought the main character was just always one specific guy called Shepard.
The voice of Nihlus also sounds super familiar... Can't think of why.
Yeah I was thinking the VA of Nihlus had to be in Skyrim for me to recognize the voice XD only one character though, Captain Veleth. The chief of guard in Ravenrock on Solstheim.
He was also in Batman: The Long Halloween as Alfred, which is something I've seen but didn't recognize him.
Ooo and he was Mimir in God of War. Interestingly, he also narrates a God of War audiobook from 2018, which I had no idea was a thing.

Your background choices affect a few missions and some dialogue.
I like to go with Spacer because its the only one where you can call your mom. Spacer, Colonist, and Earthborn each get unique missions, and Survivor, War Hero, and Ruthless get special dialogue during certain missions and conversations.
Infiltrator is a very good class for a first time player, though after trying out all of the classes, I end up going with Engineer most of the time. Each class gains new abilities in the sequels, so it's best to stick with your original class and see how it evolves. And while you specialize in sniper rifles, you can still use all the other guns just fine - you just won't receive bonuses for them. In ME2, wespons are class-specific, so you'll be limited, but in ME3 you can go back to just using whatever works best for you, regardless of class.
Fans of Mass Effect are well aware that there's a lot of talking, and we want to see it _all._ All conversations and side missions are important in these games, and you don't know which ones could have an impact on the future. Plus, you get XP and rewards for Investigating.
Since it's a speech-heavy game, you're rewarded for investing in speech skills. Upper responses give you Paragon points, which boost your Charm skill, and lower responses give you Renegade points that boost your Intimidate skill. Middle (Neutral) responses don't give you points. If you have enough skill points invested into either Charm or Intimidate, red and blue options appear in the dialogue. These can get you out of sticky situations that might otherwise end in bloodshed, or grant extra rewards you normally wouldn't get. If they're unavailable, they are visible but greyed out. There's a couple of times where you'll need maximum points in Charm/Intimidate to get the red/blue options, and it just takes experience to know how to get your points maxed out before those conversations, so don't fret if you don't get them this playthrough.
Other than that, just take things slow, talk to everybody, explore everywhere, and do all the side missions you can before doing the main missions. Don't skip content because you think we don't want to see it - that hurts your playthrough and disappoints ME fans. Even if you do the "boring" parts off screen, there will be viewers worried that you didn't do it because they didn't _see_ you do it.
(Powell had grenades for you. That was part of the reward for following up with his friends in the shed. He also had a grenade upgrade. The first shed you couldn't unlock had two scientists with a lot of information about the beacon and the attack. Remember, it's a speech-heavy game, so extending conversations to get the most out of them is the _primary_ gameplay.)

I love seeing people discover Mass Effect but you completely missed the prompt explaining how to use your powers. You’re not the first person I’ve seen miss it so I wonder if it’s poorly timed in the game.
Using your powers is a big part of the game and makes combat much more fun, a lot of the time you’ll only really using your guns while waiting for powers to recharge. For example your overload ability is really effective against geth and shields.
It’s also really rewarding and fun if you can get into the habit of using your squads abilities, especially against more challenging enemies. If trying to manage the whole squad feels too overwhelming then you can set them to automatically use their abilities in the options. This is off by default so make sure you turn it on as it makes your squad mates far more useful and effective. The AI isn’t the smartest when it comes to choosing when to use certain abilities though, so it’s definitely worth persevering with triggering their abilities manually to get the most out of them. Using left shift for the power wheel helps a lot as that pauses time so you can accurately aim your and your squads powers.

For the first time, the mistakes you made are forgivable. The important thing is: rule 1. YOU determine the story. talk to everyone as much as you can, that's important. Take your time and forgive us if we skip a few minutes. Take the time to go through the menus again and look at the icons to see some things you missed. Then there are a few more buttons that will serve you well in combat.

This game is all about the story, without hearing the dialog there is no point in playing it.
Don't play this game for the audience play it for you, otherwise you won't won't get the whole story.
I always found it odd that people would turn on a blind playthrough of an RPG and then skip over the role playing aspects of it, skip over them asking questions, not care about how the player felt when they learned various bits of lore. I know so much lore about this series, it hurts my heart to think that you would be willing to skip over most of the lore even though you want to learn it, just to make the impatient people happy. There's 5+ experts of this series replaying the game over on Twitch at any given time if somebody wants to skip over the dialogue and just see the action scenes. That should be their issue to fix, not yours
