In Victoria, Australia, where Ben is based, there's certain local councils have a particular set of dates that you can leave things out on the nature stripe and they will take them away. Most don't do it that way anymore unfortunately. Most now force you to book a particular date and they don't advertise it publicly. They also make it so that they take legal ownership of anything you put out (they give you a sticker that says so). That has pretty much killed off the street scrapping guys. Not entirely sure why they went that way, sounds like they're shooting themselves in the foot. I will admit there used to be problems with traffic - having a dozen vans running up and down the local streets all day did cause problems.
@@Jensiswelt it depends on the area. Melbourne has a very wide range of wealth, and remember he's only showing you the good stuff - for every good pile he might have 100 bad ones.

Just look at how many microwaves are being thrown out, you know they aren't going to the used microwave store to buy another one or get it repaired... It is definitely a jarring thing at first to see the cables just cut, and somehow less jarring to see it thrown into a garbage truck to never be seen again. I think it's just the difference between what's new and what's familiar.

if you ever pick up an sgi indy, make sure to check for the ultra-rare n64 dev board. It'll have 6 "phone jacks" on the back, along with a nintendo video port. Then on the board, it should have a blue piece of tape on it with the ID number. I'd give you 2k easy for one of these

When we cut cords, we usually leave about 4 inches for others to be able to reattach in case it’s still a working item. Have fun…
If I wanted to repair it I'd just put a whole new cord on it. Not safe to splice electrical cords.
