    I made your Umami burger yesterday. I increased the onion and garlic powder to 1 teaspoon each, added to the food processor two teaspoons smoked paprika and 1/4 cup pea protein isolate (I need to research if that was nutritionally smart) plus 5 ounces diced steamed beets (for the nutrients and color). It looked like beef! It’s so tasty I’m having one for breakfast 🥰 Thank you!!!!!!

    I tried it, and it's amazing! It's probably even tastier than my first try, as I measured 15 oz of black beans I cooked in the IP, and a drained 15-oz can of black beans equals 9 oz drained. I've been sharing it to everyone I know who might like it. You've outdone yourself Brian!

    Brian the easiest breakfast patties I found is just equal parts oats, I like the quick oats for these or blitz the whole oats a bit, and water. Bring to boil the water with whatever seasoning you want. Mine is my Italian spice mix with extra fennel and chicken like base. If you go regular breakfast sausage flavor you can add maple syrup too. Drop in oats to boiling water and stir well. Remove from heat cover and let sit 5 minutes. Spoon onto a lined sheet pan and form into patties and bake. About 350 for 10 minutes and flip for another 10 minutes. Cool on cake rake and they freeze well. If you want I can look for the original recipe. Keep cooking...

      I do something similar that I learned nini girl vegan channel. She takes the oat mixture with some flax and some nutritional yeast in the mix and wraps them in rice paper, and then air fryer, bake or pan cooks them. The rice paper really helps to give a crispy out side.

    Watching you taking bites, it appears that they do no turn to mush. Am I correct? Most bean burgers I have made and bought are mushy after the very first bite and the 'burger' squishes out rather than remain a burger. I've tried so many and have almost given up. How do your's hold up after several bites? Thanks for all you and Jessica do! I found you two about a year and a half ago and fell in love immediately. You two have great energy.

    When I was a kid - pre-fast food world - when my mom made burgers, she often put them on a plate with mashed potatoes & veggies, or with potato salad & a green salad. Otherwise, she'd use a grainy loaf bread, or Italian white, which are not as bulky as burger rolls.
    I'd really like to try these. I don't have a food processor, though I do have a Kitchen Aid blender. I'd mix the oatmeal, & seeds together 1st, then add in the beans with the tomatoes, then the olives & the dry ingredients together, I think. I'd want the oatmeal to be pulverized the most - so put it in 1st, to absorb the flavors of the tomato, olives, seeds or nuts ( ie: cashews, which I saw in another recipe), & add the seasonings last.
    You said they tasted salty, yet you didn't add salt. Where did that come from? The canned beans maybe?
    Saw a version which baked 2 cans of black beans on a cookie sheet to dry them out to give them a chewy consistency. Can't wait to experiment with these!

    I'm going to give this a go as my own black bean burgers have been coming out too sloppy. I think I'd like to try swapping out the black olives for beetroot. It's not that I have anything against olives but have you looked up how they make black olives in a can? (Clue - it's more or less impossible to stone a black olive, so they stone green olives and then do horrible chemical things to them to make them go black.)

    I tried it! The taste was good but I would add a flax egg and something like cooked rice or cooked barley. Maybe it was like that because I cooked the beans by myself. Maybe yours had more moisture.

    • @KrocksInTheKitchen
      @KrocksInTheKitchen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The biggest problem with this recipe is that I can't account for variables in ingredients. Some sundried tomatoes have more moisture or more salt. Some beans hold more water. It's a bit of trial and error. I didnt add the flax egg because I added the pumpkin seeds and I didn't want to add even more fat and calories into it. But this is version 1 of this recipe. I am still working on it and I will make another video in the future. 😀

    • @KrocksInTheKitchen
      @KrocksInTheKitchen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Give it a go! Hopefully you like it. 😀
      The no oil is a given with us. We don't use oil at all. 🙂 I did use garlic and onion powder. I didn't want to add more things with liquid. You are correct, the olives and beans provide moisture. But the salty/umami flavor comes from the olives, pumpkin seeds, sundried tomatoes, and mushroom powder. It's all a balance with recipes like this. Too much liquid, they fall apart. Too little liquid, they also fall apart. I might try this recipe using fresh onion though. I'm never opposed to experimenting. 😀

    Thanks for getting this out to us before the Fourth of July. Going for it with corn and vegan potato salad. I love you two. You’re “just folks” and not pretentious. At a time when we’re away from our friends physically, you’re here to make us feel closer to humanity.

    The food processor song is great! Reminds me of a Monkee's Show segment!
    I will make the patties before chilling. I have learned that is easier.
    I CAN'T WAIT TO MAKE THIS! I will use cashews and let you know and take a pic. We always have cashews for our oat milk. I do have to get mushrooms and olives (blehk!)
    Don't expect a true burger, kinda like don't expect a true cheese sauce; it's sauce.

      Oh my gosh I miss the monkeys tv show made me always super happy when I heard the opening song. Life was awesome in the 80’s

      I’m going to try it with walnuts here. Once I get some sun dried tomatoes - I hope I don’t have to order online!

      Any ideas on a substitution for the olives? (I can’t stand them.)

      @@MajiMarji Try using them anyway - you could just use a half portion. It will not taste like olives, it will just make the taste of the burger more complete.

      @@MajiMarji I'm not fond of cooked olives. I made the recipe as instructed and it was WAY too olivey for me. I may try again using 1/2 the amount or something else in it's place. Otherwise the burger was good. If you find a good substitute let us know ;)

    This recipe makes me want to try making veggie burgers or crumble again. I got so disgusted I haven’t even tried in over a year, besides the dog wouldn’t even eat crud anymore! Thank you Brian for the time and energy you have put into getting this “Burger” to a stage you are satisfied with..THANK you Krocks for all you do and share with us.

      Well if you do try them, I really hope you like them. I am still working on this recipe and hopefully I can make it even better. 😀

    My son and I knew these must be good by your last video and the look on your face when you ate it. We seriously appreciate your hard work and time thinking up this recipe and working on it and for hurrying to produce a video since you know we all were drooling since the last video. You both are lovely we enjoy watching your videos

    Thank you for another wonderful creative delicious recipe. I bet kidney beans would be another option possibly. Hmmm. Love from Ky. 😇💞

    I made these today and am blown away by the flavor and texture. I’ve had so many mushy burgers in the past that my expectations were very low. The texture of these is amazing. I love how the outside can get crispy. I cooked mine on an old George Foreman Grill and they came out perfectly. I can tell that I’m going to be eating a lot of burgers this summer!
