the reason why tails can't break some objects is because he's not really there. after all, he died in sonic 2 for the master system! sonic isn't moving because he blames himself for the death of his friend, and as such, he sworn to never move again. this "tails" is actually a representation of sonic's grief. you can see in the video that he even considers killing sonic at a few points. in fact, all of this was just a dream sonic had, which explains why it skips to another act whenever tails can1t progress.
Great video! If you want, you can do it also in Sonic Advance 3, since there is "tag action" (hold R button then release while jumping) to make tails carry sonic. Here would be the rules for that game -You can't move at all (no D pad) -You can't jump while you're not carrying tails (because jumping while carrying tails does not put you in a spin) -You can jump while carrying tails Try and see if you can beat it!
Sonic Advance 3 will be fun! 😄 I think the only other one after that is Heroes, Sonic 4 (yep, that game exists) & possibly Sonic Adventure if you use the New Tricks mod, which adds the ability for Tails to carry Sonic. There's also that forgotten Knuckles in Sonic 2 Cripple Challenge in Sonic 2 video, where you beat Emerald Hill by gliding & jumping as Knuckles. Other than those, certain rom hacks & I do believe that Sonic Triple Trouble fan game allows Sonic to have Tails carry him. But I also enjoy all those Minimalist Boss Rush videos (e.g: Legend of the Mythical Ninja Level 1 weapon, Bomberman No Upgrades, etc.) & similar Cripple Challenge videos (e.g: No jumping as Ristar) These challenge videos are fun, are reminiscent of the original whoisthisgit challenges era & I hope they continue. 🙂

I think some of the extra low ceiling fails could be passable if you keep holding jump after sending sonic off on the ground with enough speed, as sonic keeps more of his momentum that way.
Honestly, I think in the case of Stardust Speedway, you lucked out not having to beat the boss. I can only imagine how hard or annoying both versions of the final phase of Metal Sonic would be.

You can do it by using debug mode and using a sign post either in Hydrocity Act 2 or Mirage Saloon Act 1 as Sonic/Tails/Mighty/Ray. I don't remember which, but I remember that happening when I was goofing around with debug mode.
Getting a chain strong enough to instakill things that can't counter is easy as you can just learn a move called 'stairs' and guarantee a quick 5-chain every time. Though once you finally get into learning puyo seriously it becomes a far more challenging game.

You should ask someone to mod the game so that Tails can pick up a grounded Sonic. You could then make a follow-up video with the classic rule in mind. You wouldn't have to redo the whole thing, just the parts where Sonic's ability to press the jump button actually made a difference. You also need to prove to us how being able to lift Sonic from the ground would have made the second Metallic Madness boss easier.

You could probably get a couple extra clears if you opted to go with just a no directional buttons run and use the drop dash, althought that would probably save tails a lot of his suffering
With how many glitches you've found doing this silly challenge (noisy springs, getting stuck in walls, that thing in Flying Battery 2), you should be on the playtesting team for Mania 2. Bonus points if you can convince the level designers to alter the levels a little bit to make them just possible to beat doing this.

for act 2 of flying battery if you allowed insta shield you could technically use shield abilities no? there was a fire shield there you could use that against the wind.
Sonic Mania Plus...I guess the "plus" refers to "plus one action command allowed to Sonic." I'd be curious about you revisiting the previous three challenges to see if any zones that were previous failures become possible with the "straight up jump allowed" variant, maybe calling it Mania Rules. I doubt it affects a ton of them, given that there were plenty of roadblocks where a jump didn't solve things, but maybe a few of those hanging objects could be conquered?
Regarding Titanic Monarch Act 1, you can jump out of the Egg Robo's vehicle. Perhaps if you jump at the right moment, you'll land in the right place and have enough forward momentum to clear the low ceiling?
You looked so smug during the first half of the video, I wanted to punch you in the face xD but it was totally worth it! (Just kidding anyway) You know, that's actually one reason why I don't like Sonic Mania, his "personality", like you said in the Undertale video, if Sonic Mania were a person, he'd probably be one of those arrogant fans who say that the fans themselves They make things better than Sega itself. I don't like its quality based on nostalgia, it's like standing on the shoulders of people in the past and their hard work to achieve success faster and easier, on top of that their team, Whithead, Tee Lopez, etc. They are very loved today, more than Sega himself, it makes me feel that they are the cool ones and the winners and I just have to be on their team, that they are too amazing even for me, I know that Sonic is cool, but I never had to feel like him to enjoy his games... and you can't tell me anything because you felt the same way about the absence of Tails in Sonic & Knuckles xD The best game, even if it is a fangame, for me is Sonic Before The Sequel, it does not have that arrogant feel, rather it feels like a letter of gratitude to Sega for everything we have experienced, rather than an attitude of "look bozo! Curious: What makes Sonic Origins poopy? I don't know anything about it, apart from the fact that it's a compilation of the Genesis / Mega Drive Sonic games (and CD) with widescreen support (and it costs $40 which is way too much).
It's CD I was calling poopy, but Origins itself is pretty disappointing still, and it even bizarrely has some glitches than weren't in the original version.

Flying battery act 1 is possible without the instashield if you get some momentum to drop sonic on the ground in that small tunnel, then have him jump as he's still moving forward. Could also maybe do something with that in act 2 during the rainy section.

With how many glitches you've found doing this silly challenge (noisy springs, getting stuck in walls, that thing in Flying Battery 2), you should be on the playtesting team for Mania 2. Bonus points if you can convince the level designers to alter the levels a little bit to make them just possible to beat doing this.

for act 2 of flying battery if you allowed insta shield you could technically use shield abilities no? there was a fire shield there you could use that against the wind.
Sonic Mania Plus...I guess the "plus" refers to "plus one action command allowed to Sonic."
I'd be curious about you revisiting the previous three challenges to see if any zones that were previous failures become possible with the "straight up jump allowed" variant, maybe calling it Mania Rules. I doubt it affects a ton of them, given that there were plenty of roadblocks where a jump didn't solve things, but maybe a few of those hanging objects could be conquered?
Regarding Titanic Monarch Act 1, you can jump out of the Egg Robo's vehicle. Perhaps if you jump at the right moment, you'll land in the right place and have enough forward momentum to clear the low ceiling?

You know, that's actually one reason why I don't like Sonic Mania, his "personality", like you said in the Undertale video, if Sonic Mania were a person, he'd probably be one of those arrogant fans who say that the fans themselves They make things better than Sega itself.
I don't like its quality based on nostalgia, it's like standing on the shoulders of people in the past and their hard work to achieve success faster and easier, on top of that their team, Whithead, Tee Lopez, etc. They are very loved today, more than Sega himself, it makes me feel that they are the cool ones and the winners and I just have to be on their team, that they are too amazing even for me, I know that Sonic is cool, but I never had to feel like him to enjoy his games... and you can't tell me anything because you felt the same way about the absence of Tails in Sonic & Knuckles xD
The best game, even if it is a fangame, for me is Sonic Before The Sequel, it does not have that arrogant feel, rather it feels like a letter of gratitude to Sega for everything we have experienced, rather than an attitude of "look bozo! This is how you make a Sonic game!" that Sonic Mania gives me xD
oh, and it's also very rehashed, like those episodes in series where the characters remember events from past episodes, there is no evolution or world building, it's meh :T

Curious: What makes Sonic Origins poopy? I don't know anything about it, apart from the fact that it's a compilation of the Genesis / Mega Drive Sonic games (and CD) with widescreen support (and it costs $40 which is way too much).
It's CD I was calling poopy, but Origins itself is pretty disappointing still, and it even bizarrely has some glitches than weren't in the original version.

Flying battery act 1 is possible without the instashield if you get some momentum to drop sonic on the ground in that small tunnel, then have him jump as he's still moving forward. Could also maybe do something with that in act 2 during the rainy section.
