Thanks for turning in to the first episode of Das Boat. To celebrate, the MeatEater crew is here to answer any questions you have about our new show! Ask away...
Why "Das Boat"? Is it a reference to the German film? :) And I love you, Steven!!! Appreciate your efforts to educate everyone on hunting and conservation !
Just watched the first episode. It was awesome! Makes me fondly remember the years spent in the river in a small Jon Boat. Love all the content keep it up. You guys are the tits!
I think that the potential for profitability with a regularly scheduled youtube show to supplement classic MeatEater tv will yield a good arguments to bring more video content to the platform.
This is great!! This shows all generations we do not need a fancy, sparkly bass boat to enjoy the water & catch fish. I own & guide fishing trips out of a 1995 14 ft aluminum Lowe 1405 fishing boat. You should hear the comments from some of the bass boat & recreational boat guys. Like Steve mentioned in this episode, sometimes I feel ashamed because of my old aluminum boat. Then my clients make me feel wonderful when catching fish out this little boat and say things like: "I need to get a boat like this", "this is quite the little fishing boat", & "this boat catches fish". Get out & enjoy the outdoors any way you can, no matter what you have. Go Fish!
Finally a hunting show that isn't all about shooting trophies on private land! Best hunting show on air Steve and growing crew ;)! Keep up the good work y'all.
Steven Rinella has been doing this sort of hunting and fishing his whole life. You owe it to yourself to read his books. I hate to read, but I get so lost in his writings. He writes exactly the way he speaks.
Not sure why anyone likes watching the shows where they sit in an established, permanent blind set up over a feeder or feed lot and thinks that's the life of the average hunter. Even if I had 10k to throw away on trophy I wouldn't choose to get one that way - its not hunting.
About 10 months ago, I picked up a 14 foot Valco aluminum with a 25hp tiller steer on it. Hadn't ran for years. Working with by son to replace all the wood, getting it running, wiring, and outfitting it for fishing was a great experience, only exceeded by the many trips we have taken it fishing. This series captures those good times perfectly, thank you!
Fell in love with MeatEater about a year ago and honestly can't get enough! Been waiting for new season when you came out with Das Boat. Yet another show that is AMAZING! The emotion I get when watching anything Steve Rinella puts out is something that can't be explained, I TRULY feel joy watching. From reminding me of my childhood hunting and fishing with my dad and uncles, to the background music that somehow seamlessly fits with each scene to enhance what you are watching, make an enjoyable half hour you wish would not stop. Please keep up the great work and thanks for what you have done to the outdoor TV show world, nothing like it out there!
Ive had the privilege of spending time with both these guys, salt of the earth all around good men. JT is a very smart man, like his dad, and his knowledge of the ecosystem on the Gulf coast is unmatched. Steve is a hunting, fishing, public land beast. He is the future of conservation and the ultimate outdoorsman
We are not worthy of such content! I cannot get enough of this brand’s attitude, footage, message, and uniqueness. Thank you for everything you do to cast a positive light to the outdoor lifestyle we love to live.
I can not simply express how much of an influence that Meat Eater has made on my life. Thank you for your love, passion and seemingly never ending knowledge of the outdoors.
Listened to Townes today and ran across this gem my brother told me to watch a year ago. Sometimes the TH-cam algorithm isn't all that bad. Awesome to see JT is out doing his own thing and enjoying life. Looks like a great way to spend every day.
The way the meateater crew just thinks out of the box. This is an amazing idea. Between the show, the podcast, cookbooks and so on THANK YOU for what you all do for outdoorsmen and the whole outdoor community.
Love the discussion around fair use, focus on the resource and tribal acceptance. As outdoor enthusiasts we need more of this so we can help those who don't participate understand this is not about killing. Thanks for bringing back the nostalgia of riding around in a metal John boat on a Nebraska sandpit every summer of my childhood. So many memories!
Used to have me a old 16 ft alumacraft with 30 johnson on it, running wide open with the aluminum shutter under you feet lovin life with buddies. I think this shit right here, is freaking awesome. This is why meateater is # one on the outdoor shows. 100% real life!!
My dad is a guide like this fella off Hilton Head, SC. Listening to this guide give the same exact kind of instructions as my dad gave me chills. Thanks for another awesome vid!
Steve, here in GA we call that hook/weight/leader rig a "knocker rig". It can be used when fishing heavy structure for sheepshead and black drum. The sliding weight directly against the hook can be used to help dislodge a hook stuck in barnacles on pilings, or in oysters, etc.... #meateater for life!
Growing up in SE Michigan on Lake Erie that type of boat is still the standard I measure others by. A hardworking little aluminum boat is hands down the most useful and versatile craft you can own. Hunting ducks, chasing fish, and evening ride on the lake, this boat does it all. Really loved the first episode, looking forward to more.
Great show! Really enjoyed it, I wish it was a couple hours long. JT is one of the coolest guys on the planet. Cannot wait for Alvin's episode (another of the coolest guys on the planet).
Love seeing you guys on TH-cam and any new ones on the Netflix. Doesn't matter what your filming, if you guys think it's worth filming, I think it's worth watching. You guys are still my favorite Outdoorsman show over all the others because you don't do the classic format of "We're going hunting today, oh look an animal. Ok, we shot the animal, have a nice day." Thank you for the best show I have found in 40 years of looking.
I love the way this boat becomes a platform for an experience and a thoughtful exploration of why we hunt and how the natural world shapes us. Nicely done! Best quote is on "bringing something back to life that still has life to give." Awesome work! Beautifully filmed, as is the Meateater tradition! Cheers!

Steve does it again. You take an idea and turn it into something everyone has an interest in seeing. I haven’t seen a single show yet if yours that I don’t watch the whole way thru, which says a lot for me because I normally watch a few minutes and not into it, but your attitude and outlook on life and nature run hand in hand with mine
This connects all the radness of fishing as a kid with the philosophy and sense of the profound that we should all hope to grow into. Fantastic. Keep pushin, Steven.
Love this show idea and premise. Found it hilarious how you weren't sure the boat would even float after putting a beand new motor on the back. Thanks for producing this type of show. Im not able to get out and fish and hunt much as I would like but these shows really reminds me of my childhood, the good ol days when I was able to go fishing or hunting with my dad and granddad and other family seems like almost every weekend. Thank you! Love all your shows and podcasts
You know what there’s loads of? Fishing shows. You know what there’s not enough of? Hunting shows THAT SAID, this is a dope fishing show ;) Good work Steve and the gang
Yeah, but a Meateater fishing show isn't your typical "fishing show". It's "bullshitting with your buddies" kind of honest. Not the super edited "I catch a lunker on every cast" kind of fishing show that flood the airways now....
Is that really Townes Van Zandt's son? That makes this episode that much better. Glad to see an exclusively fishing collaboration from the MeatEater crew. I love the "Das Boat" concept. Meateater puts out the best hunting shows hands down. I wouldn't expect anything less from them in this new fishing series. Keep 'em coming!
The Meat Eater crew needs to find their way up to Northern Alberta to Lesser Slave Lake and do some walleye fishing, either open water or though the ice. I liked the show, keep up the good work. 😃
L-I-V-I-N..... This is what outdoorsmanship is all about. The nostalgia of everything and the way this was presented, even the platform it was presented on, to me is perfect. I've been a long time supporter and fan, all the way back to The Wild Within, and can't wait to see more Das Boat and MeatEater episodes. Thanks for bringing us along!
Holy shit! Only 2 minutes in and I'm so stoked! Thank you for showing people it doesnt take a butt load of money. It takes no ego, a few saved up bucks, and some know how! 🎣
Glad you did this show. I love it. Most relaxing thing other than sail boating. A lot of people don't understand how to Communicate with others. When you fish with someone, you become good friends or know to separate ways.
That's a fact! I love the act of hunting more than the act of killing. It's the whole process combined that gives a sportsman the joy of the chase. Also it doesn't matter what POS boat you use to fish just as long as your fishing. 9 times out of 10 the guy on the 30 year old clunker will catch more than that guy on the yacht.
This is what life is all about . Steven you hold the true sprit of what living is meant to be, hunting & fishing 2 things that bind us closer to mother nature. please keep up these fantastic adventures. Much respect from down under :)

Great crossover series. As someone who is just as passionate about catching and eating fish as I am hunting big game, this makes perfect sense. The fact that I own a 30+ year old aluminum fishing boat just adds to the appeal. Thanks Steven
Just watched all of the Das Boat episodes. I was back in the boat with my old man for a couple of hours tonight....at least in my memory. Very well done, and showed true fishing.

Watching this from my desk at work makes me long for the splash of water off the hull and the peace of drifting while casting, waiting for a bite... instead of waiting for the next email. Thank you for the brief respite, and the inspiration for MY next escape!
15 minutes into ep1 and you nailed something I’ve learned to love in life. Learning from someone who is knowledgeable, passionate, and loves their craft.
Keeping fish is not an integral part of fishing. The guide doesn’t keep many fish because it affects the fishing. Keeping redfish like that is ok but keeping bass is another thing. People target bass for the fight and the fun of catching them. Every fish kept is one less fish in the ecosystem which makes it harder for other people to catch fish. By keeping fish you ARE affecting other people’s chances and making less enjoyable.
So, I dont get much time I'm from of a television or computer, I've had a bit of time this Christmas weekend , I was glad I came across this, as an angler who fishs out of either a kayak, or my 1970 Sears 12' jonboat I liked watching these guys with a second hand boat getting out, it was refreshing as most fishing shows are guys with super expensive boats and more tackle than my little goat could even float!!! Good job
As always, Steve Rinella was both entertaining and teaching me ideas, techniques and paying homage to our beginnings ! Thank you Steve for what you do and how you do it !
More MeatEater is always a win! Loved the first episode. Das Boat reminds me of the old one in my yard that hasn't seen the water in about 8 yrs. Thanks.
This hits so close to home in more ways than you can imagine. My dad has this same boat except in a 12” version. It was the first boat I ever sat in. I caught so many fish out of it as a kid in south Florida. We now live in Austin and my dad still has this boat, except it gets a lot less use now that I have my own push pole skiff but we still take it out occasionally. I can’t wait to see the rest of series, especially the Texas and Florida trips.

Good job
Great show, but I would have kept the Johnson on her!
As always, Steve Rinella was both entertaining and teaching me ideas, techniques and paying homage to our beginnings ! Thank you Steve for what you do and how you do it !
Great concept! Can definitely relate to the simplicity and utilitarianism that is the tin boat. Looking forward to the next episode.👍
More MeatEater is always a win! Loved the first episode. Das Boat reminds me of the old one in my yard that hasn't seen the water in about 8 yrs. Thanks.
Thank you to the whole crew who made all this possible!!!!! I really enjoy this show!!! Watch it all every day just about
Already love your Meateater series...but having a dedicated fishing series, even for a limited time, made my whole year!!
Great job team Meateater! Quality content, good editing, super interesting guest and conversations. Keep em coming!
