This is a kind of odd comment, but just before Bourdain died I found Rinella. I am an avid reader, chef and outdoorsman and Tony had been my totem for a decade at least and his shows were like a beautiful frame hung around stories of people I would never meet. His death was pointless and sad and for a time I also thought it was the end of empathetic and poetic Gonzo journalism. Then I found out zero point zero has produced a show that the guy who was on Rogan had made. I think Steve and meat eater as a whole exactly embody what Tony saw as perfect travel journalism and I would just like to offer this weird testimony as thanks to everyone involved. Ed. BTW whoever picked these two dudes to go fishing together is a genius.
Couldn't agree more, Michael! Excellent comment. I've worked as a cook for a number of years and recently - in my mid-30s - fallen in love with the outdoors and started hunting. Rinella's books, podcast, and show have been huge for me, especially in light of Bourdain's passing. Thanks for this insight. I don't think I'd really made that connection in my head before. Bravo!
Bourdain didn't "pass", he killed himself. It's one of the most selfish things a person can do, and you people need to stop comparing Steve to that asshole. This wasn't some "tragedy that could have been prevented if we were just more aware of mental health" or however they sold it, it was a horrible act by a person who obviously didn't give a damn how their actions effected people who cared about them. Stop trying to canonize the man, "he was my totem". He was the host of a tv show that you liked, and perhaps an author you enjoyed. Jfc people are nuts, holding up some mentally ill prick as a comparison like it's a COMPLIMENT!
@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing watched this episode on my lunch break. Sorry I'm a year late seeing it. Thanks for a relaxing 25 mins in an otherwise stressful day. Its inspired me to call my brother and set up a fishing trip.

Man the Outdoor Television Hunting and Fishing shows have been put on notice! This is excellent entertainment and they are a dying breed it’s not about the harvest👌🏻
These two have a unique chemistry. They're both quiet and soft-spoken and not talking much, yet they're still saying a lot. Really enjoyed how chill these two were, fishing, cooking and just coolin' it hard.
A more pure, genuine, genius "fishing show" simply does not exist... For a foremost hunting production, MeatEater has set the bar incredibly high in all things outdoors. Time to go bass fishing and keep em' for once!
@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing that technique with the fibers for catching the gar was genius I have never thought of that or seen that before. Learn something new awesome!
Excellent series so far. I've always loved the way Steve narrates through his episodes. It goes to show you, you don't need a $60,000 bass boat or center console to get the job done. Most fishers (like me) fish on a beer budget and do some of the very same mods to their boats (the poling platform is on my list). Been a fan of Steve's since the Travel Channel days.
Same here, growing up in the San Fran. Bay Area there’s no shortages of big fancy boats that leave you a feeling a bit belittled. Butttt I bet we have more fun on our boats!
In a world awash with so much noise and eighty thousand dollar bass boats, it is so nice to find content that is wholesome, intelligent, down to earth and entertaining. Thanks Steve!
Man the way Steve Rinella narrates these shows is definitely a gift from God! I bet he could narrate someone taking a shit in the woods and people would tune in and say, "best episode ever!" As always great job! Keep up the amazing work!
I love everything Rinella and the boys are doing. Let me just say one thing about this episode and I will leave it at this- Bad Mutha Goose was one kick ass band and put on a hell of a live show. I saw them many time in the mid-80s, usually on the same bill as the best rock band to ever hit the stage, The True Believers. When thie episide started I was thinking Alvin looked familiar but when they showed the concert poster, holy crap! A flood of killer memories came up. Keep doing what you do, boys. This is a treasure.
I absolutely love these this series of videos. They are made only the way a meat eater video can be made. Lots of insightful conversations and great fishing. Can't wait for the next one!
Steve - this is an incredible idea. I love the series so far. Perfect mix of men being men, fishing action, and food prep and enjoyment. Inspiring. Keep em coming brother! Always great to see TX also. As a displaced Texan living in DC, relegated to catching snakeheads and largeies on the Potomac, seeing home through your lens is just terrific!
I grew up as a youngster watching tons of sunday morning fishing shows with my dad, usually against my will and may jave lead to my dislike of fishing when I was in my teens. Most underrated host in the outdoor sports world hands down. If I could go hunting or fishing with anyone in the world it would b this guy! Keep up the good work man. I literally eat wild food shortly thereafter watching any of your videos or shows.
This reminded me of growing up fly fishing Dry Creek in northern California. It flows right though Roseville, but you could catch large and small mouth bass, and blue fill all day. It's where I learned to fish and cast a fly. This episode brought back those memories.
As some one who just re-discovered his love of fishing and recently bought a boat and motor, this is a great journey to watch and gain inspiration from. Thank you Papa for the family payment plan. I will take great care of what was your boat and now is the families boat.

I absolutely love your no holds bar approach to every aspect of hunting and fishing. You are truly like any other outdoorsman I have watched. Much respect to keeping people properly educated on why it’s important to hunt and fish.
How cool I was born and raised in Austin & fished the hillcountry area weekly my whole life but a few times a yr I go to Rockport for a few days to fish for reds & specks. How cool to see my two main fishing areas out of only 6 MeatEater das boat episodes nation wide. (I've also seen Jesse & Tim Kerr w/ B.M.G at liberty lunch inearly 90s several times) Makes me feel very grateful to have such beautiful hills & waters to enjoy. I hope the MeatEater crew and all the viewers enjoyed TX as well.
I'm all in on this Steve. This episode made "get it". It's the experience. The shared moments. You have single handedly reaffirmed why I love the outdoors. I had lost that for a bit. Gone astray. I'm back baby. Thank you sir. One last thing, the feature length content is much appreciated.
Best outdoors/sportsman media group in the business. MeatEater and its folks are absolute gold and Das Boat has already become my favorite fishing show of all time.
Great episode! These are the kind of guys that lower the blood pressure and embody good living. Could hang out with these guys (or in this episode) for days. Awesome!
Huge fan of Steve and the whole crew. I think the meat-eater team provides education in an exciting way where it is no longer commonly available. Dad boat is a joy to watch. I hope it is a sign of more great things to come.
You are right about urban rivers. Mr. Rinella is a Michigan native, as am I. I spent a couple years in Mt. Pleasant, home to CMU. I also worked at the wastewater treatment plant, in the lab, for a summer. I caught quite a few smallmouth, pike, and even a 24" walleye within 20 yards of the effluent pipe. I ate many of them, and am still alive to tell about it. The best thing is that I only saw one other angler in all the times I fished there.
ethical, entertaining, and educational..................this is the right kind of stuff! great video.........My 7yr old son knows about you, Mr. Rinella, and we had a blast watching your Netflix content.
Steve Rinella you are a blessing to Hunting and Fishing , you’ve once again captured my attention and interest with Das Boat. Because of the interest and respect for hunting and fishing you sparked in me, I purchased your episodes in VHX and hope you continue always telling your story. I always reference them and would like to say I successfully made SARDINIAN HARE STEW and it was great. Thanks for everything!
I was also reminded of Anthony Bourdain by this show. I watched every episode and would watch them all over again if they were played. Good job Steve. I'll keep watching as a hunter and fisherman myself, It's cool to hear different perspectives on fishing, and life in general.
this is the most fun thing I have seen in a long time. Reminds me of being a poor kid in south Florida looking for any possible way I could go fishing love love love this. So awesome
Love this episode, and love both of these guys. My old man used to fish with Alvin once in awhile, and loved every minute of it. I am a regular at Dai Due, and have hunted hogs with Jesse in S. Texas. Jesse is an Austin treasure, and we all need more exposure to his cooking, his philosophy, and his comedy. Yup, he is a funny sumbitch when he gets on a roll:). Congrats!! Great episode.
I absolutely love the story line to this series! One day to do work then go fishing is the bees knees and the best thing is it’s enjoyable to watch and listen. Steve Rinella hit a home run with this I can’t wait for the next one it’s my new favorite video series to follow on you tube. Keep it up and looking forward to the next. AWESOME
I haven’t been much of a fisherman in my life, typically going in the local river and canal for catch and release, but this is definitely expanding my desire to learn more and diversify my interests just as watching the MeatEater show did for hunting. With only the 2 episodes so I far I am absolutely LOVING Das Boat!
Man! Another great show from Steven Rinella. I didn't realize until watching this how badly I needed a fishing show from MeatEater. Thanks Steve and all the folks at MeatEater.
Steve and MeatEater crew- you guys are KILLIN IT! I always look forward to your shows. I just feel different and better watching them. Keep up the good work.

Steve I’m loving this das boat episodes. I really want to see more. I’m not the only one that wants to take my 1976 16 foot flat bottom john boat to crazy place. I love this season.
I live in South \ Central Texas and in both episode 1 and 2 have them fishing in places that I've been around my whole life. I have to admit that I've often written off the Colorado but after this episode - I think I'm gonna have give it a second look. Alvin and Jesse made a great pair on the river. Can't wait to see the next one!
I've fished the Sanibel/Captiva island area several dozen times over about fifteen years. I can tell you this I have seen it at it's prime and after the red tide and just like this episode shows, this fishery is coming back. Love this series and most anything that Steve has his hands in. Keep up the great work, I live vicariously through these series when I can't get outdoors myself.
I don't know em personally but JT and Alvin are such awesome people Great to have them on these episodes! MEat Eater is killin the game! So cool!! Thanks for putting out awesome quality CREATIVE videos as opposed to 15 min commercials for a bunch of sponsors and trying to sell product.
Man I have been loving me some bass fishin lately and I just might have to fillet one of those puppies up. This show is pure genius, perfectly captures what fishing is about. Keep doing what you do fellas, I love the heck out of it.
Really love your shows. Your show bring a different flavor compared to other outdoor channels. It’s unique, I can actually sit down and enjoy watching your shows like as if I was hanging out with good buddies drinking a cold one and telling stories. Keep it up, can’t wait to see more full episodes like this. Tight lines and fish on!
I quite like the format of this new show. The story telling is great and I like the variety of featured anglers. I would love to see this format applied to hunting as well. This people focused story telling would really enhance the meat eater show, which is already fantastic.
Jesse Griffith’s voice is a smooth as silk. That man needs to narrate something. Secondly Das Boat is one of my favorite things on the internet today. I hope to one day run into the Meateater crew, or maybe they will do a live show here in Georgia.
I'm very serious, I've been watching meateater since I was a kid on the outdoor channel from seeing him cook javelina in its own stomach, to cooking deer heart, and showing me how to eat bear fat ever since i fell in love with Steve and what he does. Then as I got older and through time I lost touch with him as people do then I see him on joe rogan and heard all the stuff he's been up to and more about his life which made me fall back in love, and now with these new series I fell like I keep finding my way back to steve and this great content which makes me very happy to see how far he's come and how he's never stopped his pursuit of what he wants to accomplish in life!
In just two short episodes this has become one my favorite things MeatEater has produced. I can’t wait to see more of this!!
Yea, something special about this series. Its much more enjoyable to me.

Steve I’m loving this das boat episodes. I really want to see more. I’m not the only one that wants to take my 1976 16 foot flat bottom john boat to crazy place. I love this season.
Great series idea and I love that you put it out on TH-cam for all to see. And so far the cast of characters is outstanding.
Thanks for watching Brian. The LoCo has a lot of potential.
Love it! Continue passing das boat on and on... a life time of stories!
This series makes me so happy
Thanks for the kind words Benjamin.
@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing Yes sir! Love this series!
Two awesome and genuine humans sharing a great experience. Such a great show!
Thank you, it was a great experience.
Loving this series. As much as I love the standard Meet Eater crew this is a breath of fresh air for new personalities and perspectives!
Truly a great SHOW to watch. 👍👍👍
Absolutely love the Das Boat series. You don’t need the most expensive set up to get out and fish.
Awesome show! Cant wait for the rest of the episodes😀
My favourite new lunchtime tradition. Thanks Steve! Your the man.
Really enjoying the Das boat series so far guys.
I love this show I hope this is a series that stays around for a long time
Loving this series. Very entertaining
This series is awesome! So much nostalgia from growing up even though I've never even fished in Texas. Looking forward to seeing the rest!
You guys are killing it!
