    The Guggenheim Partners financial service company runs a 300 Billion plus financial services industry. It's CEO Mark Walter is a multi-billionaire and is the majority owner of the LA Dodgers. This company can easily allocate 680 million into miscellaneous stocks, bonds, mutual funds, government securities and in 10 years, turn this 680 million into 1 Billion dollars. So this contract is possibly the best major sports contract in history since the LA Dodgers can easily make 300 million from investing that deferred money, and another 300 + million in TV rights, advertising, jersey sales, marketing, ticket sales, parking sales, etc. just having Shohei Ohtani on the team as well.

    • @milfhunter8887
      @milfhunter8887 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly, the Dodgers are most likely leveraging (getting a loan on) that 700 million against the franchise net value, so they are basically getting Ohtani for free or potentially making hundreds of millions of profit from it just from the deferred fund investment! These analysts that keep harping on the 700 million figure are clueless. Ohtani could not play a single game for the Dodgers and they'd still make money from this deal!

      Plus if they rent ohtani out to rich house wives of wealthy Japanese oligarchs. They can make 4 billion a year and 300 babies. You can grow 4 teams of ohtani level players for 2045.

    Dodger’s official store in Hawaii, Ohtani’s uniforms are already sold out and many people will buy them at the Japanese Dodger’s official site. We don’t know how much they gonna make out of Ohtani. Maybe $700 million was a bargain!

    Ohtani's endorsements are 5-7x greater than the next highest MLB player. No one can use Ohtani's contract as leverage in negotiations.
    It won't affect the MLB because his marketing effect is unique in the sport. Nearly every other MLB player could leave outside the US and go an entire day without anyone recognizing them.
    The Dodgers make their money back in merchandising, advertising sales, and streaming licensing agreements before they even begin paying off the deferred portion of the contract.

      True. You're signing Ohtani with the Japanese market in that $700 million contract. 50-60 million people, the 3rd biggest economy. Not just Ohtani.

    I think the mistake that these guys are making is the same mistake that some salty fans are making also. They think of this contract from a pure baseball "player" standpoint. They should be looking at this contract like Michael Jordan and Nike. The value that Ohtani brings to the club by just being on the roster is worth a lot more than any other MLB player... marketing. How many people outside of the the USA knew who the Angels were before Ohtani got there?

    Ohtani likely will play outfield the first half of every season. And only start pitching around July 1. Slowly build his arm up so that he is going 5-6 innings every September and 6-7 every October. Dodgers don’t need him to pitch 150 innings for them to make the playoffs. They need him PITCHING IN THE PLAYOFFS. About 75 regular season innings and 25 playoff innings. That’s all they need.

But now all we hear about is the multi-million dollar contracts and the players can give a s*** about the fans because they make all their money through endorsements and TV contracts and they can give a c*** about the fans. Are you saying the Dodgers won't make money off of this guy? They've got Japanese advertisers lining up and also gonna be selling television and streaming rights. His Dodgers jersey broke the sales record in 48 hours, for ALL sports. #1 Shohei, #2 Messi, #3 Cristiano Ronaldo. THAT is why the Dodgers didn't have any qualms about the $700 million contract. Too many fans and analysts alike are too myopic in their thinking. Shohei can't be compared to other players, because he has mass appeal so win or lose, he will still make money for them.

    It is obvious Ohtani has become one of the best hitters in baseball and on the face of it saying he is also one of the more overrated players may seem strange to many but I'm sorry that's exactly the situation. As great as he has been he is nowhere near the level the media and many other people like to place him. No player is worth 70 mil a year and to pay him as the best hitter and the best pitcher in the league is crazy. Look at his innings pitched, if they get much lower it might start approaching the gimmick level. Paying him as the top pitcher in baseball on top of paying him like the top hitter is crazy. It's like baseball sent out a memo to the media to tell them they wanted him to be considered the best player in baseball because it gets a lot of attention. In my book a designated hitter can not be touted as the best player in baseball. They just can't. Considering to be a DH means you aren't good enough defensively to play in the field. He hits and he sparingly pitches (even when healthy) meaning on average he has maybe 4 chances each game to contribute to the outcome. Where as a player like Acuna Jr., who by the way is the best player in baseball, is elite in all categories. He hits for average and power, he is the best base stealer in baseball and oh yeah, he has a cannon for a right arm. It will be very interesting to see how the Dodgers approach and try and work through the massive hole they have dug for themselves with this contract starting in 10 years. I mean who wouldn't like paying a guy in his 40's who no longer plays baseball 68 million a year? Just ask the Mets how those deferred contracts work out.

      Do a google search for "1-billion-boon-shohei-ohtanis". This article states that the Guggenheim can earn 1 Billion dollars in profit from investing in that $680 million money for 10 years.
      I figured it would be around 300+ million in profits for 10 years, but it's possible Guggenheim is so great they can generate 1 Billion dollars in profit. We'll see. But this is looking like the greatest deal in sports history because Guggenheim group / Dodgers are basically getting Ohtani for FREE by simply investing in that deferred money.

      Well he is worth more than that, it is the reason the Dodgers gave him this contract. He is not only a player but also a marketing juggernaut. He will open other markets for the Dodgers and his appeal is global.

      You don't get it do you. Ever wonder why starting pitchers get 4 days off after every start? It's because they can barely walk the day after each start. They need time to recover. The only reason Ohtani is DH-ing is because he has to pitch every 6 days. He can easily play RF or even SS if he doesn't have to pitch. Acuna has a cannon for a right arm? Wait until Ohtani's right arm heels. Ohtani doesn't pitch next year so he can run the bases freely. There's a good chance he'll become the first player ever to steal 30 bases while hitting 50 dingers, ding dong.
