Definitely a backlist reader, need to let a book marinate in the public opinion for a while before I trust it to be good enough to read. I have a bad habit of only reading books with outstanding reviews though, I could be missing out on so many great books that other people just don’t understand like I would 😂
I just finished re-reading 'The Night Circus' for the second time. I first read it years ago but I didn't feel like I "got" it back then, it made more sense to me this time. It's very whimsical and I think would make a really good graphic novel. I recommend it :) I'm a mixture of both new release and backlist books, but my thing is that I tend not to be swayed by the hype of something. I like to come to things in my own time.
I read Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore in high school, I don't remember anything that happens but I kept my copy because the dust jacket glows in the dark and that's sick
I’ve read a darker shade of magic and the raven boys. Both are good. I like the world hopping of the first one and the raven cycle has pretty good atmosphere in general.
I began The Silent Patient last year and I quickly started getting like "man trying to write a female character" vibes.. you know what I mean? I am probably being too judgemental.. It might be my internal biases at play here but I actually didnt know a man wrote it when I started to read it. As I read through the first few chapters I noticed it and went to look into the author. I didn't give it much of a chance so I should probably read more of it.. It was a year ago so I don't remember much.. I just remember getting turned off because of the way the character was written. Did anyone else feel what I'm talking about here or did I completely misunderstand the books vibe? lol
If/when you're in the mood to read a fiction book told from the POV of animals, I recommend Kira Jane Buxton's "Hollow Kingdom." I just finished it. The protagonist is a crow with a bloodhound side-kick friend. There's a biological disaster as narrative backdrop.
Red Rising is my favorite book series of all time! But you need to make it past the first book, I nearly didn't, but I'm so glad I did. V.E. Schwab is one of my favorite authors as well. Love her Shades of Magic series.
I haven't read Mr. Penumbra's, but a book by Robin Sloan I'd recommend is Sourdough! The main character is in tech and work is sucking her soul so she decides to bake bread
The Vanishing Half is amazing, I really hope you enjoy it. This video also gave me a nudge to finally read 'If I Had Your Face'; I bought the ebook months ago because it was $2 and still haven't read it.
@@LilyCReads10 It’s the Empire Wars by Akana Phenix!! Madeline Miller who wrote Circe & Song of Achilles is writing the blurb for it!!!!😭😭❤️ Thank you!!!
i’m so excited for you to read song of achilles!!! it’s one of my all time faves. also i hadn’t heard of ninth house before, but i’m intrigued and so adding it to my tbr to answer your question, personally, i’m more of a backlist reader (mostly because i looooove library books and those are easier to get than new releases. also because i have a better chance of enjoying books that stand the test of time)
I have been SUCH a fan of using the library too, and you’re totally right, new releases are impossible to find there, they always have massive wait lists 😢
My tbr list Magic Montaing by Thomas Mann The Coddling of American Mind What's wrong with the world The already read list: 100 years of solitude Dumbing us down Bourne Identity Bildness by Saramago
Of your list I've read Song of Achilles and the Raven Boys and really liked them both. That Ikea Book looked really fun. Kinda hope you get to that one, so you can tell us if its worth it 👀
I listened to the Red Rising audiobook. It's really good at keeping your attention once it gets going. I really liked it. It would be a good movie/tv series. Very emgaging. Last time I checked, it was free if you have audible plus, but bot sure if it still is. For me, I just want to slowly make my way through the books I own. From the one I'm least excited to read, to the one I am most excited about.
I’ve always found it hard to get into audiobooks, but maybe I just haven’t found the right narrators yet, glad to hear this one is good though, might have to give it a go 🥰
I am so bad at reading books when they come out, and I feel like sometimes it affects my enjoyment of the book. I got to these 4 only in past few years - Raven boys, Red rising, Martian and Darker shades of magic - and I feel like I missed the moment where I could potentially love them, but at this stage of my life I just didn't.
My backlist is so deep I could retire today at 37 and die of old age before I finished everything... granted I'm counting the absurd number of fanfictions I've bookmarked and video games I've purchased but still lol
Yeah, my tbr grows endlessly. I don't read enough to counteract the number of books I add to the list each year. Let's not talk about other media like games and shows haha...
You are finally back in youtubes good books - on my home page 3 hours after upload rather than me having to search you every couple of months to see if I've missed a video 😅
Lily You look amazing !! I love a video that includes an outfit change ! I believe in you & I'm cheering you on . Honestly, 85 to 90% of my reading is Backlist. Is it because I'm too cheap to buy New Titles ? Probably, but I call it "being frugal" . I also have Mr Penumbra's 24 hour Bookstore on my TBR shelf (where it has been sitting untouched for ... 8 years now .?.?) Milk Fed sounds intriguing . Should I add it to my TBR now, or wait until I hear your thoughts ? 💖 love you !!
so happy every time you post a vid 😭❤ I also have A LOT of backlist books and a very large TBR pile but the books I end up finishing are spur of the moment decisions / no rhyme or reason why I picked them but it wasn't on either of those lists
I'm addicted to my local used bookstore, and I love the library, so I rarely read anything new anymore. Song of Achilles made me sob but not for the reasons I thought. Circe is so good 5* for me. The Raven Boys is beautifully written. I've read everything by Maggie. She's quite the lyrical writer. I don't regret reading the Legend series, but I've never been satisfied with any of Marie Lu's endings. Scythe and Red Rising have been on my tbr for a million years! My partner has read both and enjoyed them. Maybe I'll pick one of them up this year. You inspired me lol
Dune is the book that will be my triumph read. I've had a copy for years and even though I know I like the story (I saw the movie first), I am totally overwhelmed by what a thiqq boi that book is.
"My big plan is that I'm going to read all this by the end of the year" Dear, on goodreads your goal is 100 books XD You have even bigger plans! (And we believe in you)
Really want to read the Song of Achilles and Red Rising eventually as well :) Started The Raven Boys last year? And want to continue it but I haven`t yet... :D
Really?! I’m rlly apprehensive with that one since I don’t know what the authors intent actually is with that book, not enough ppl have talked about it to really get an idea
and when the world needed her most, she returned!!!🥰
I love that now it's just hey guys and getting straight into the video because this is so real... we don't need to address the lack of posting. iconic
Yeah exactly haha, we’re past that
You really keep doing this, coming back twice per year 😂😂😂😂 my gosh girl. You really are the vibe.
Yeah you need to post a video every six months to keep monetisation going…
@@oysterhunter276 😒😒😒😒😒 I think you misheard me. I’m GLAD to see her again!!! No matter why she’s back. Let her be.

😂😂❤
I don't have backlisted books, only blacklisted books
Literally my life in shambles and went: "Lily C posted, life is good!"
I read Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore in high school, I don't remember anything that happens but I kept my copy because the dust jacket glows in the dark and that's sick
I think the glow in the dark dust jacket is what originally caught my attention about this book haha
I’ve read a darker shade of magic and the raven boys. Both are good. I like the world hopping of the first one and the raven cycle has pretty good atmosphere in general.

Oh lord pls no 😅 🙃
Given the plot twist of the book, I reckon that writing style may have been intentional
Everytime you pop up you give me a boost of inspiration to get back into my tbr.
I really need to actually read the Darker Shade of Magic series!
Omg you have to check out slaughterhouse five. One of the most unique and clever books I’ve ever read
hopefully i'll get to it by the end of the year!
