I LOOOVEEDD the rigby and Eileen pairing, they where actually genuinely so cute together, and it’s definitely a classic opposites attract, Eileen is a good influence on rigby and pushes him to be more responsible and hardworking, and rigby can help Eileen step out of her comfort zone, and relax and have adventures and fun! I also love how him and Eileen kept it on the DL for a while LOL rigby doesn’t kiss and tell!
Great analysis. I remember watching this season for the first time I saw myself a lot in Rigby. I flunked out of high school. I felt like a screw up in life for years but not anymore. I went back to school and graduated. I'm now in college pursuing my bachelors degree in international relations at 25.
Honestly I don't get how some people dislike the later seasons of Regular Show, especially seasons 7 and 8. The two seasons still are as funny and teach us so many life lessons
@infinitenim I think it an issue that a lot of shows get in their later seasons this isn't exclusive to regular show. And it's that by the later seasons the plot starts to have too much going on compared to the relative simplicity of the earlier season's which is what drew most people in initially.
Great analysis, but I would like to punctuate that his development started even before he saw the Eileen plan. Eileen had been a great influence on him way before. And when Benson was talking about "being the same person no matter where you go" he was actually talking about himself, he was projecting his own insecurities on Rigby. I think Rigby wasn't even being a bad person who needed correction in the first place, he was just being himself (that, at this point, wasn't a terrible self anymore) and making friends. I think the conversation just helped Rigby realize Benson's worries and feel empathy for him enough to act on it on his own will, cause I think, at this point, Rigby was capable of being selfless without the need for a scold.
Something I had always thought about, at least on the back burner, was how cool it would be if Rigby just unironically spoke and understood mandarin to a basically native level.
I'd argue he was the best written character along with Benson. While their character flaws were noticeable, they were actually written well. If you hate a character, that's supposed to be annoying. Then you, the writer, did a good job.
@@PayForViewsJST Absolutely, it’s because Rigby and Benson had such blaring flaws since the start of the series that made their character development that much better. They were both assholes(More so Rigby) but ended up pretty good people
Ive always enjoyed Rigby because I knew there would be room for growth and self improvement due to the fact that both him and Mordecai were essentially almost one in the same as screwups. So his character arc and self improvement is still one of my favorite parts of the show.
Wondering if I saw the same show as everyone that said Rigby improved and graduated. He had to learn a foreign language so he "learned English" in China (while almost getting expelled as a result) and passed gym by beating someone in a "Food Run". That is not improvement.
@@skoop651 If you want the messages of those episodes to fly over your head that's not my problem. Rigby did cut corners in them but they had a far greater meaning than the shenanigans that transpired.
My brother being born in 2002 and me being born in 2003 the show was literally tailor made for our age but it still goes hard after I rewatch it now at 20
I think it's crazy how Mordecai and Rigby both swapped the fan love/hate. Mordecai ended up being a tool in the end and disliked while Rigby greatly matured and got better
Rigby has always been my favorite since the beginning. I was only like 7 or 8 when the show came out and I didn’t start watching it until I was about 9-10, but despite how much of a jerk he was at the start, I related to his impulsiveness and hyper personality, and have loved his character since. When he started becoming a better person and his character development started, I was so happy for him. I still relate to him on such a high level, even as an adult and his improvement was extremely relatable these past few years. He’s got one of the best character arcs in animation and it was so casual and so well paced that it didn’t feel forced. His relationship with Eileen is also so beautiful and they’re perfect for one another. Glad he got the redemption arc that he so well deserved, he’s the best character in the show besides Pops and Skips
To be real for a second I was struggling with depression for a few years And ended up dropping out not wanting to go on but was actually Rigby's from season 7 that Inspired me to actually graduate high school as well.
Like you I do suffer from clinical depression and I know how it feels. But like you I’m doing good and I’m glad that you decided to go back to school. I’ll would like to wish you well in your future endeavours. You got my respect ✊
I cannot believe the fact that Rigby's voice actor also voices the daedric lord of depravity and corruption, Sanguine, from the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Not only that but im sure he also voices Doctor Octopus in Marvel Spiderman games
actually rigby started to really change in mid season 5-season 6. cuz you also notice him and eileen's relationship get better from s2. but s7 is where they really took rigby's character and improved it
To be honest I don't blame Rigby very much because I see him as mostly misunderstood and just trying to do something to fix what he is dealing with, and I don't blame him for that and that's probably why he's still friends with Mordecai because he probably reminds him of himself just to help. And maybe that's how Mordecai feels the same way, but they just had a few flaws and they just probably had something that caused the flaw and it wouldn't be their entire fault since they just been through some which probably makes going through a hard time and probably having trouble understanding another.
My grandfather just went back to college and got his degree a few years back it's never too late to go back and accomplish something if you have the right motivation and support system 😊😊
I love Rigby, even in the earliest seasons I think he was funny back then being selfish and all that, and I love his development too, too bad the space thing that's what I don't really like because Pops is my fav character 😢😢
Really well put together video, I didn’t realize I’ve seen your channel before from your ybn nahmir video, but I definitely prefer this type of content weirdly enough, keep pushing I subbed
I always felt like season 7’s ending was a really good allegory for what it felt like to graduate high school. Life kinda hit all at once it felt like. Like stepping into a new world. Idk I might be reading too much into it but just to offer an alternative perspective
Muscle Mentor and Lift With Your Back I think were also episodes that added on to Rigby’s character growth. He spent an entire day with Muscle Man working hard and didn’t give up to go slack off and he saved Muscle Man from drowning when moments before all he had to do was carry him to a water fountain for a drink but carries him out of a lake and saves his life. Lift With Your Back was another episode were Mordecai was again being a bad friend and was taking Rigby for granted and didn’t give him the credit for covering for him when he ditched work to spent time with CJ. Rigby had every reason to be mad at Mordecai and quit his job and work for that moving company despite not having any experience, references or requirements for any other job. He didn’t care what the job was he just wanted to prove to Mordecai and everyone else at the park that agreed that Rigby can’t do anything without Mordecai or he’d be useless. Working for that company Rigby showed his worth as an employee by not giving up and working hard for a week instead of a day compared to Muscle Mentor. When Eileen brings Mordecai to Rigby’s new job and his payday, he again tries to tell Rigby he cannot do this alone and wants to help him. Rigby refuses rightfully so. Even though Mordecai was looking out for Rigby’s safety by telling him to stop or he’d never walk again, Eileen encourages him by saying she knows hes useful and to lift with his back to get his paycheck. Those were just two more episodes I feel like that should be included when recognizing Rigby’s character growth :3
Rigby certainly improved from being the selfish, lazy slacker who often caused unintended problems/conflicts within the park to really growing into a better individual. Going back to high school to get his diploma and following through with things, even when the goings got tough and even helping out Benson when he was going to be stuck in China if his class failed to learn English. Along with patching things with his pops, who was more favorable towards Don since he made something for himself opposed to how Rigby never followed through with anything and wasn’t successful like his brother Don.
Honestly, given how the regular show movie ended with past Mordecai learning the truth about his acceptance letter and past Rigby apologising to Ross, I feel like it sort of altered the Regular Show timeline and played a big part in Rigbys redemption. I also think makes the whole acceptance letter deal null and void.
I just got the DVD of the film and on the extras I seen the alternative ending to the film where Rigby decides to apply for his GED. I thought it was really nice but I guess if it ended that way then season 7 would have taken a different path.
I remember watching this as a kid but unfortunately couldn’t watch the rest of the seasons because I had to move but then when Disney+ announced Hulu on there platform I watched the whole season and it was worth watching because everyone had character development.
