Robert McKee gives the exact same advice on his book Story, only he goes into many details of this process. It's a very good read all throughout.
One of the best descriptions I ever read was from a translated mange dub video. It was something along the lines of "the fire in her eyes was audible." There is no way I'd come up with that unless I had gone through a bunch of different ways of doing it. I've been getting stuck, thinking I'm bad at describing things. I'm glad I came across this. It's time to read descriptions and try my own angles.
I just found this video 3 years later when I'm in a point where I'm questioning whether or not I should still persue my "dream" of become a writer, I'm a disable girl, and I've been thinking about writing about story inspired on myself but today's writers only care about toxic and overly sexualized stories, that makes me feel bad cause then my stories won't sell
There are still people who care about non traditional stories, one's that are not generic and are original/thoughtful. Just go with your gut feeling, don't get discouraged.
If you can feel this pain, most likely there are more people feeling this way too! Just try and be their voice.
Don't let the anxiety get to you -- write it down! Forget the dream and make it a reality and BE the writer telling the stories you want being told.
If the only true reason to write is because you love writing, you win before even you finish a project.
Never worry about what will sell or who your audience is. Through writing, we are all universally human. What is clear and true will resonate with audiences.

The way Karl went "Huhh" is so cute. Anyway, I'm confusing with my way to get into film industry without losing my soul. The process of learning often beat me up hard, and along the way I lose my way of working on things, which is, as Karl said, being curious and going deeper. I didn't know much about this because people around me don't want to share their experiences or they don't expect much and just want the work to be done on time. That's freaking terrible to me. So this video particularly is saving my soul, Karl's words is what I'm looking to hearing all this time. Thank you so much ❤

Most original idea in recent years was fight club, never done before.
LMFAOO think ingmar bergman's persona... and oh right it's based on a book
story idea: the movie ghost same idea. the story is about random people as ghosts on the planet like the guy on the train in the movie just existing trying to entertain themselves watching the world. board room meetings parks families various industry news. then the end of the world comes ww3 and they watch everyone die then get taken away. the ghosts go to find who killed them and find them in the deep underground bases some have found out who exactly did it and they converge on those people.
I love the idea of deeper descriptions of characters, but I always hear you need to have your character and their flaw be immediately identifiable the instant you see them - or you've failed. That's contradictory. A character with any depth can't be clearly defined the instant you see them. I've also gotten the note that 'People don't want scripts with description, they just want action and dialog.'. That's an actual note I got on a Sci-Fi script. Don't have description. I like the way Mr. Iglesias talks about it, so I think I'm going to follow his advice...
Doing this is kind of hard because you have to have a lot of viewing experience to know what is new and what is cliche.
