Ks has a 2 pole with no more than 2 hooks per pole limit with the option to add a pole for more money. Conservation sucks but fortunately it works and the quality of fishing has grown the last few years throughout Kansas. At least it has in my area. South Eastern Kansas.
Thank you buddy! And yea I'll normally fish all winter long here unless the ice gets to bad. lol that's about the way it is try and get away from the weather and it follows you.
Wife got me a Okuma Convector for X-mas looks like I'll have to get me a Warrior rod for it. Just found your video channel the other day and have watch most of them, Thank you and have a merry christmas
Heck yea that's a nice reel makes a really nice Christmas gift. Here is a discount code to help you out a little on the cost of the new rod CSREFER2017 and thanks for watching. Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.
Chris, congratulations on all of your accomplishments over the past year, and for creating these very informative and helpful videos. Amidst your busy schedule do you ever offer any Guided catfish trips?
Ray thank you for the kind words and for watching but at this time I'm not a licensed guide sorry. Really thinking about possibly going that direction in the future tho.
We have to be running right past each or are at least parked next to each other at the point pleasant ramp which is always dominated by bass guys and not alot of catfish guys after sept. Great video - gimme a shout if ever want a partner hitting that stretch. Take care Chris.
I fish from the bank alot of times but I love the flathead bite and I always catch more blues than flats. do I need to fish shallow or does it really matter.
May be just do to the area your fishing. Some area have more blues and less flats and some areas are just the opposite. What area or body of water are you fishing?
If you wanted to start fishing a river you have never fished before how would you go about finding the best place to start? Would you look at a map first and find a certain stretch? Or would you just throw a boat in and cruise around and find some structure or what? I'm in Texas and wanting to start fishing the Brazos river
Well the first thing I'd do is try and find out what that river offered as far as what kind of catfish then I'd go to the maps from there looking at how the river flows and what it has to offer then pick an area to look at while on the water and go fishing. Now something to keep in mind is whenever you go back there try a new area out and you are sure to find lots of places that will be productive.
Now something to keep in mind while look for them is that this time of year they are feeding heavily and where they will be is highly effected by bait fish.
James that's a good question and the answer could be different depending on the body of water your fishing whether it's a lake or river and whether you're fishing for flathead catfish or blue cat catfish. If I'm fishing for flathead catfish this time year I'm normally going to be concentrating on structure and more so structure on a ledge because these fish are traveling back to there wintering holes this time of year.
Great tips man! I love Catfishing in the Fall, especially early Fall. Here in Pennsylvania Flatheads seem to bite the best in September/October and also Pre-spawn like May/early June. What net is that your using? Is that the net Steve Douglas sells from Monster Rod Holders?.
i kinda let the fish tell me what they want I'll start with a mix and go from there but normally once that water gets in the 50's I've not had much luck with live baits.
Thanks Chris. I should have watched this last Oct! I caught a few Flats in a small spillway using live Bullheads at 56 degree, then went back a week later and tried the same thing at 52 and got no bites. I also went to a 3-way due to rock snags vs the previous Carolina rig which may have made thing worse.
Chris great video ad always I love ur videos u relate more to a working man dreaming to be a pro angler I guess more my idle lol. Anyway im from the Pittsburgh area I fish the mon river and parts of the Ohio up by three rivers my family also owns a lake house at deep creek lake in Garrett country Maryland and I am trying to find out where is the closest place for me to travel to in west Virginia to get into the blue catfish fishery? We dont have blue cats up in the mon and was looking forward to heading to the Ohio river in west Virginia somewhere on the weekends to be able to fish for the blues as well as the flats. Im not sure if I will get a response from u but figured I would try seeing all ur replies on this video no over "catfisherman" responded to my questions I really appreciate any information you could help me with of course I always release all my fish after a quick picture and weight.
souders catfishing that's awesome. I like it for sure. I had seen it in one of your previous videos & immediately started looking for one online. Couldn't find anything close to what you have.
Nice video Chris. I really enjoyed this one. Great picture and sound quality as well. I've always been fascinated with daytime flathead fishing. do you feel that once the water temps start hitting 65 degrees and lower that day fishing is the ticket? I feel like I cannot catch a flathead after the water temp drops below 65. I do like the fact that you mention smaller baits and cutbaits for this transition period.
Thanks Chris and I don't think that once the water goes below 65 that that's the reason I catch them during the day. I just normally fish during the day at this time of year so to all the extra dangers that come with colder weather. Normally I'll fish for flatheads during the day even in the heat of the summer unless there is just to many boats on the river to fish then I'll fish at night. Now I am a firm believer in cut bait once the water gets in to the mid to low 60's and smaller baits. And something to keep in mind as these fish travel they will conjugate around or in the vicinity of where large amounts of bait will be.
Chris thank you. That is very insightful. I guess it is a little different in the bigger rivers. However the bait connection would still be the same in smaller rivers. On another note, even-though we've been FB friends for 2 years already I just subscribed to your channel. I've watched pretty much all your videos so far. Looking forward to seeing more videos in the future.
Well thank you for subcribing and watching all my videos. hopefully I'll be able to put a video out at least once a month. And yeah big river or small the bait connection will cause the same effect.
That’s a SeaArk ProCat 200 they are a very well built boat and worth every penny. I done a video on this particular boat call the Slunger Cat Outdoors Catfishing rig. So if you get a chance check it out. Also hopefully have a video of the new procat out soon
Hey Skyler the main reels I'm using right now are the peen squals size 20. They are a very good reel for the money and can handle everything I through atbthem!
I was at Steve Douglas's mad Jack's tourney I couldn't get to talk to you. then I was at lake Barkley Cabela's couldn't get to talk to you then last but not least I was in Paducah at the Cabela's 2017 I couldn't get to talk to you. it's starting to be a pattern Chris. lol maybe next time.
i have fished with multiple types of bait and still get skunked what am i doing wrong? does finding brush really that important? im new to all this and watched all of steve douglas videos and starting on your now any advice would be great. fishing the missouri in iowa
Hey Mr saunders. I am writing this for my testimony of my own life experience with my God. Well he is your God also. In my life I have been full of faith and I have also at one time I have lost all faith and been lonely. I think you are the person that can appreciate a journey such as mine. Let me know if you want to hear my story.i saw one of your videos and was inspired.God Bless.
One of the most used baits in my arsenal, great info here.
Thank you and thanks for watching
In Kansas we have a 3 pole limit and you have to pay extra for that. You make it look so easy Chris...keep them coming bro
Thanks olroy2006 but flathead catfishing can be very frustrating at times just got to have patience. And the no rod limit in WV is nice
Ks has a 2 pole with no more than 2 hooks per pole limit with the option to add a pole for more money. Conservation sucks but fortunately it works and the quality of fishing has grown the last few years throughout Kansas. At least it has in my area. South Eastern Kansas.
nice tips chris nice to see someone still fishing up here in ny we had over foot of snow that week up here I went to the james the weather followed me
Thank you buddy! And yea I'll normally fish all winter long here unless the ice gets to bad.
lol that's about the way it is try and get away from the weather and it follows you.

What was at those spots that made you fish them? That’s the kind of tips that would help us on our own waters.
Thanks Brian for the advice. I’m definitely trying to work on making bettering and simplifying the information. Thanks for watching
Came here from Steve's channel.... can't wait to see the rest.
Thank you and glad to have yea over here!!
souders catfishing, any videos for springtime flathead? PB is only 15# so far....hoping to break it this year.
Absolutely hoping to be able to get a few put out this spring when the flat heads start eating good and before they go on spawn.
Great video. I saw the 1 you made with Steve Douglas, thought I'd check yours out. Glad I did. Thanks.
Thanks John for checking them out and watching.
we have a tree rod limit here so much easier no to tangle.
Nice Video Chris!! Hope you catch some big ones this year!!
Thank you and thanks for watching
Really enjoying your videos! I'm finding myself using more and more of your tips!
Thanks Big Cat river fishing glad you are watching and finding use of the information I giving out.
With using that number of rods, are you fishing on the KY/WV side? And great tips on how to use your shad with the temp's and the size of bait to use
I’m fishing WV waters and yep as the water cools off down in to the low 60s I use more cut bait. And will commonly cut it smaller.
where do the fish sit in fall?
Looks like your using mono line what weight line still casts well on a bait cast reel . Thanks for all your tips and videos
thanks a bunch for sharing your tips for catfishing. I really appreciate it.
You're welcome Jim glad you enjoyed watching these videos and thanks for watching
Those are some nice fish
I hope to get me some when I go back to the Salt River here in Az
Thank you! Hope you do as well!!
We have to be running right past each or are at least parked next to each other at the point pleasant ramp which is always dominated by bass guys and not alot of catfish guys after sept. Great video - gimme a shout if ever want a partner hitting that stretch. Take care Chris.
Thanks Rob and yeah we have probably cross paths and didn't even know it. You see me out down there make sure to stop and talk. You take care as well
Will do - Good luck in 2017
Thanks

Great tips
And nice flat and blue
Thanks buddy and thanks for watching.
chris what reels you using
Great video! Nice fish!
Thank you sir! You make some great videos yourself. Thank for watching.

thanks so about the same as summer how's about as it gets colder
As it gets colder they will head to the deeper wintering holes.
Now something to keep in mind while look for them is that this time of year they are feeding heavily and where they will be is highly effected by bait fish.
Hey Chris Souders what kind of fishing line are using in this video? If you don't mind me asking?
In this video I was using Berkley Big Game 50lb main line. Thanks for watching
Do you have to go to a shallow spot or deep spot for flathead
Great video man, thanks for sharing and teaching all of us that are trying to become better.................J
Your welcome glad you enjoyed and thank you for watching
I'm a river fisherman and we don't get blues to often mostly flatty s and chanel at the great Miami north of dayton oh
Then I'd most certainly say find the nasty looking stuff you can find to fish and try it. But be prepared to lose some tackle lol.
as winter sets in what is more important depth or structure
James that's a good question and the answer could be different depending on the body of water your fishing whether it's a lake or river and whether you're fishing for flathead catfish or blue cat catfish. If I'm fishing for flathead catfish this time year I'm normally going to be concentrating on structure and more so structure on a ledge because these fish are traveling back to there wintering holes this time of year.
Really great video Chris.
Thank you sir
How are you able to use that many rod an reels
I buy a out of state WV license so that I can use more rods.
Good morning . Chris I'm from Austin Texas what's the difference between the regular shed and that Grizzly shed.
Chris what's a good hook size for catfish 10-20 lbs. I've been using 9/0 circle but I'm not hooking up.
Try the diachii 5/0 bleeding bait hooks I think you will have a lot better hook up rate. Thanks for watching
Nice veido chris. What reels do you run by the way?
I run a couple different ones but the ones I run that can still be bought are penn squalls size 20
Hey Chris, great info here. About what temperature do you start transitioning to cut bait? Or do just wait for a sharp drop in temp?
Hey Eatnlunch once the water get below 60 I'll start using only cut but I do use cut all year long mixed in with live baits.
i kinda let the fish tell me what they want I'll start with a mix and go from there but normally once that water gets in the 50's I've not had much luck with live baits.
Thanks Chris. I should have watched this last Oct! Your welcome Gary and thanks for watching
Do you have enough poles?
Looks like you fish around barges a lot. Do you fish the up or downriver side?
I fish both ends of them truthfully and they can be very productive at certain times of the year.
Dang you caught a couple of beasts !!!! Good Video !!
Thank you!
Great video, nice cats, and thank you for the tips. 👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks Richard and your welcome. Thank you for watching
Nice job Chris. Was you up the Kanawha or in the Ohio.
