    You can tell from their music Benjamin and Ashley have been through a lot. From train-hopping to travel the US and busking, to fighting with addiction and loss. I don't know if the two want fame being as they have built a nice life on a small homestead in southern Kentucky but I do know they want people to hear their music and that is what I hope for them. And channels like yours can help spread their music, especially if someone like yourself, who lives on the other side of the world is singing their good graces.
    For what it's worth, I think "I Will Rise" and "We Ain't Even Kin" would be great songs for you to listen to...along with the rest of their entire catalog.

    Great reaction man. This is country music, not that pop influenced stuff the radio pushes. Im from West Virginia, my family were some of the first settlers in that part of the country after the revolution. My 5th great grandfather was granted land by the governor of Virginia for his time in the militia and then seving in Washingtons army. The mountain music that Benjamin and Tyler make have its roots in Scot-Irish traditions. When our ancestors came here from Europe, especially Scotland and Ireland, one of the few things they brought with them was their music. The fiddle/guitar playing and storytelling comes from across the pond. Its a beautiful thing to see these guys keeping the history alive and paying homage to our roots.

    This man speaks to my soul. Every song I’ve heard from him has felt like angles wings with everything I’ve been going through; but this song. This song stays on repeat remembering that I am no longer that man I’ve been and my family will hopefully not recognize who I am becoming. Something greater.

    Wow! Wow! Wow! Well done mate! Loved the time you took to go over this thoroughly was greatly appreciated. So much personal experiences withe deeply rooted emotions have always made LDSB and Ben's solo songs something that people can truly relate to in some form or another. Ben treads with his music where a lot of artist won't go by being honest to his listeners with the troubles , grief , self realizations and being a open book.
    Well done! Looking forward to more! 👍

      @@OliWilford I enjoyed it very much. Not quite done yet but the violinist who was speaking with the Gems creator at the end is Ben Todd's wife Ashley Mae sitting beside Shannan Jae Ridout, the widow of Nicolas Ridout who wrote a couple songs that LDSB plays (I Went Down to Georgia and Lazy Moonshiner). They were/are best friends of Ben and Ashley and they used to be in Spit Shine together and they would perform in the streets (busking) for money. This is a wonderful song and if I could recommend something for you: listen to the studio recordings after hearing the Gems performances, not necessarily for the reactions but for yourself to hear them and there is sometimes percussion, upright bass and steel guitar. Thank you for doing this brother, this is my favorite song of thiers and they've gotten a lot of people through hard times. Amazing to see live as well.

At their show in PHX I stood with guys and gals in cowboy hats, gangster mf's covered in tats and face tats, hippies etc. There's just something about them that's so unique and beautiful. Thanks for the video man.

    I love this song so much because I relate so much to it but I can’t listen to it very much for the same reason, out of all the “reacts” I feel you’re the closest to its real meaning or at least the one I relate to the most. It’s visible what parts hit you and just remember you’re not alone, a lot of us are still fighting the war.

    You'll notice words and phrases in LDSB's music that heard enough in thier context shines more light as to what they mean. Sickness has poisoned my time, I think from thier other songs is a reference to addiction and the supposed cure that blinded his sight I think refers specifically to alcoholism because he refers to getting really drunk in a couple songs as drinking till he's blind. I could be wrong but maybe some other fans could correct me.

    Nice channel, brother. I'm a born and raised Texan, and I have to say you have excellent taste in music. A few suggestions for you. One of my favorite bands is Prophets and Outlaws. Very unique style. Texas Home and Country Music Gold are two of their best. Another guy to check out is Drake White. His cover of What's Up is the best there is, but he's another one that doesn't have a bad song. I've never seen someone just become the music like him. Finally, if you haven't heard of Koe Wetzel, you're missing out. Take care. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos.

    "Dare me to do it, I'll go, I'll trade these pounds of flesh for a miserable ghost and not much will change but the way that you see me will though." Basically saying if he ultimately chose the drugs over his dreams and future with Ashley and with music, he'd be a shadow of himself and it would change everyone's perception of him...that pity you feel when you try to help someone who won't help themselves and you're forced to walk away.
    Every damn song these two put out is AMAZING. I've seen them live 3 times now and I'm steeped in dissonant black metal. 😆

  • @Weekend_Washouts
    @Weekend_Washouts 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey man, I know its been a while since you did this one but I think there is something that you might enjoy listening to. The audio quality is not as good as his later Gems material but Ben and Ashley used to be in a band with the lady (Shannon Ridout) sitting next to Ashley at the end together with Shannons husband Nicholas Ridout. The band was called Spit Shine. He was Ben's best friend and he spoke briefly about him before the song "Sorry For the Things" that Gems posted. Nocholas Ridout wrote a couples songs that Lost Dog Street Band play ("I Went Donw to Georgia" and "Lazy Moonshiner"). I'd like you to check out for yourself (not necessarily a reactions video, just to get to know them better) Spit Shine's "Nicholas Rode Out". Its Ben's fictional account of his best friends death. No mentions of a suicide but it hints a little at it being intentional. I think you would enjoy the song just for its worth in story telling. Please do it and any other LDSB fans in here reading this should do the same.
    An another note, Shannon Ridout, did a song with Ashley on the fiddle with GemsOnVHS called "It Ain't Right". An amazing tune and thier "busking" style comes to the fore with great lyrics and a soul that you know has felt pain as the widow of Nicholas Ridout. I highly recommend a reaction to this song!
