Fantastic print & build. A question that kept occurring to me is could you have done the windows in transparent? Would add just that little extra detail.
I had some issues attaching the wheels (it was not really designed to be printed that big!) so had to glue them. Maybe if I get an RC system I’ll keep it historically accurate and have it barely work 😂
These cross section models are fantastic. The possibilities are endless for showing off things like oil rigs, airliners, armored vehicles, ships and submarines, famous buildings, etc..

@@niklaswejedal463as an alternative, there is plenty to find about the FWD Teracruzers that the US Airforce used for missile and support trucks. Basically the same thing, but I'm not sure they used Rolligon patents. I believe they actually still make versions of it for Arctic use.
Not going to hate on you for doing basically a whole video as an ad, it actually was really interesting how well that printer worked and that it appears to be super simple from the software size. Besides, you have to fund your trips to document things. Maybe next time they do a promo I'll consider it.
I bought an X1C with AMS a month ago and have now printed for around 150 hours+. I love the printer and always find myself just watching the printer and being happy like a little kid. Like a little kid watching a construction site with big eyes and not wanting to do anything else. The printers are just extremely cool and useful. PS: If you use another plastic such as PETG as a support interface, it will almost come off on its own after printing. Because PLA only sticks to PETG lightly. Which makes for much simpler and clean support interfaces and works in both directions. But materials like PETG should be dried before printing. Greetings from Switzerland: Raphael

Your models are amazing!i used to do a lot of scale model building and seeing you build them gives me the fuzzies and makes me want to dig out the glue and brushes! But.. quick word on the X1 - it works amazing, untill it doesn't. We have 2 X1C machines at work, one with AMS, 1000 h work on each. One can't print a circle since about 200h, nothing helps. We just accept the issue. The other couldn't work with the AMS after 100h, i had to run a metal ribbon through its drag chain and now one of its leveling sensors works only when it wants. You'll love them, untill one day they make you cry,
I just preordered my Prusa. Which is not the rolls royce, but more like an Arctic exploration vehicle. I will be happy to print with it in a few months.
This is only a guess, and from a quick glance in the engine room. The engines are 5 cylinder. Gardner Engines made a 5LW that was super reliable and had many applications (trucks, cranes, boats etc)

never knew about this vehicle, so i have been reading tons of wikis now lol, the background info on it is amazing and when i looked up the possible location where it might still be i found a nearby station called McMurdo station wich seemed interesting cause it has something called Ice-Stock plaza? so looking that up its actually a yearly music festival held right there on the arctic! oh man im still reading stuff about arctic stations, this was such a rabbit hole, thanks!
I would LOVE to have that model on my shelf but I could never afford a 3D printer. I love to see your videos that share my fascination with these colossal vehicles and forgotten pieces of history. Especially the mammoth snow cruiser. I can only imagine if instead of the huge racing slicks they had gone with oversized tank treads.
Just an idea: Get a wooden board/wall shelf, carve out some foam on it (and/or use plaster), paint it, maybe use model-snow (usually it's glass-powder), and build a diorama/base for the thing.
Even though this was just a big bambu advert I’m not mad atall, I’ve just bought a bambu and it’s brilliant I’m going to print the rescue buoy as soon as I’ve got some bright yellow.. I’ll probably do that vehicle too maybe at a smaller scale
I have always been a sucker for illustrations that show the internal guts of different things. It would be so cool if you found a way to make more models that show a cross section of different things that interest you.
@@CalumRaasay printing clear windows never really works since it is made up of strands/layers it will look very foggy because of all the light refraction, best would be to 3d print just the window frames and make them so that you can slide in a sheet of nice clear plastic!
If you have an AMS or equivalent I can't recommend using an interface material for the supports. Like PETG as the last layer of supports when supporting PLA or vice versa. There are a few other combos of materials that just don't stick to each other, but those are probably the easiest and most common.
There was two countries (Barbuśia and Guavùnar )that had this weird arrangement of diplomatic affairs. Each embassy are allowed to have an entourage of gigantic (similar to the antarctic one here) vehicles, three stories each, and a separate driver compartment which have a role to play in this weird setting. The interior of the vehicles is subjected to the county of origin jurisdictions, it’s basically a piece of foreign land on wheels! Not the driver compartment though, that is under local jurisdictions! Here’s the weirder bit, one country started facing unrest and thus started moving a lot of its “VIP” people into new vehicles of that nature in the other country. Until the unrest led to a coup and a change in government. So the outside government officials, VIPs, rich people, and their families and friends now live in a country that resides in the 218 gigantic vehicles in another country! I just made that up as you would 100% know! Silly story 🤦🏻♂️
That is outstanding, I believe that is one of the best 3D printed models I ever seen, the only thing I would change is to cut out the silver windows and make them clear - you put so much detail it would be great to see inside - you should start selling model kits with your merch, don’t be afraid to charge good money for them either it’s worth it
I love my 3D printer, I have been putting it to good use lately as we are re-doing the instrument panel on our aircraft and I have been making things like mounts for the caution and warning lights and such.
I’d love to start learning some modelling so I can start making some bits and pieces for my own projects. I’ve got countless wee bits for old machines and vehicles that would be great as 3D printed replacements!
@ I have been using Blender, it’s free. The learning curve is steep but there are plenty of great tutorials out there (Blender Guru on YT springs to mind).

Hey I loved the add and actually think this is a good way to incorporate ads. Also I believe an RC model is possible if you research a little electronics and some pre-fabed stuff
There's a video out there about using 3D printing to create a metal lathe and a drill press. They 3D print the external surfaces, put some mechanical hardware in it then fill the open sections with concrete. No, that's not a typo. The result is something which is quite solid (and quite heavy; nothing remotely flimsy about it). If you want to build out more tools for your workshop, check out their videos.
I still believe the snow crusiers' biggest failure was those tires. They could have had the best, most reliable power train ever created, and it still would have failed because of those tires. I understand they didn't have much of a choice but as someone who has lived in a very cold and snowy place my entire life... how did they believe it would ever work!

Question: I am making an Antarctic Snow Cruiser as a Pinewood Derby car. It is a an competition where adults can participate. I am contemplating putting on the radio antenna's. I am looking at various models and photographs. Where were they located when attached? I see some models where the front beside the exterior of the cockpit. Right or Left, or Port or Starboard? I am realizing we have differences on what drivers-side means. I see one photo where it is attached front and center. Is there an answer?
Seeing this makes me wonder if an RC version would be possible, maybe not with that specific model but a modified one that'll accommodate the electronics. The hardest part would be finding wheels that'll look right, but iirc there's a guy that does custom SHERP atv RCs with custom made wheels. Those might be a decent choice if they're willing to sell the tires separate.
I know, I’d love to try and make this RC- the plastic hull is certainly tough enough! In true snow cruiser style I’ll have to make it incredibly slow and underpowered 😂

You should make a print of Ivan The Terra-Bus, a Delta snow tractor, and the Kress, if you like obscure Antarctic vehicles!
