- Did you know that the first woman to enroll in Harvard Medical School was a Filipina named Fe del Mundo?
She was born in 1911 in Intramuros, Manila, Philippines.
She was valedictorian of her high school class and graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in medicine in 1933.
Del Mundo was accepted to Harvard Medical School in 1934, even though women were not officially admitted to the school at that time.
She was the only woman in her class, and she faced discrimination from her classmates and professors.
However, she persevered and graduated in 1938 with honors.
She then returned to the Philippines to practice medicine and make a difference in the lives of children.
Del Mundo was a pioneer in the field of pediatrics and made many important contributions to the medical community.
Del Mundo was a true inspiration and her legacy continues to inspire women and children around the world.

She went to the best school of medicine in the world at that time yet she still decided to return to her country. I think she is a true hero!
What about the first black American woman graduate of Medical School of Harvard at the dawn of 19th century? Being a graduate, she must be the first woman to have enrolled in the Medical School of Harvard.

She returned to the Philippines to give back.what an example .intelligent, brave, woman
She lived her name, " Iron in the World". Don't ignore the meaning of a name.
Fe actually means "faith" in spanish. That name did not come from a periodic table.
@GiovanniMarcos-fo7mo But Fe my friend is also the symbol of iron. It means she is strong. Whether faithful or strong, let us celebrate the meaning of our names. Yours is Giovanni, the Italian version of John. What a beautiful name which means " a gift from God".
@@bernadettecaboverde4532 fair enough green headed brave bear.
@GiovanniMarcos-fo7mo the symbol for bravery is a lion.
@@bernadettecaboverde4532 but then, your name is not Leonadette.
By the way, the symbol of Marcos is a lion too. And John's symbol is an.eagle.
She became my son's doctor in Manila. Now my son is already a doctor
so she is still alive?
@@janjamesramos247 She was born in 1911, it's 2024. What do you think?
@@justtry8552 hahaha bubu spotted 🤣🤣

She was my pediatrician! Love her.. she took care of my tonsillitis.
And it was a Filipino who was the first to really conceive florescent lamp.
She was the inventor of incubator..
true. Beyond her pioneering work in pediatrics, Dr. del Mundo was a strong advocate for family planning. She recognized the importance of birth control in improving maternal and child health, especially in rural areas.
Filipinos have pre-colonial beliefs that men and women are equal & significant in their roles in the society. She must've been raised well with that kind of belief system and carried it over to her as she entered Harvard's Courses of Graduates.
na meet ko si dra. del mundo noon nag work pako sa book industry kasi yung company namin dati ang nag published ng books nya😊
Because I truly admire how good she is, I would always tell my daughter, "Do not aim to buy the most expensive stethoscope because it will not make you know the condition of your patient. Rather, aim to know what you need to listen to no matter how low the price of it." I have learned it from her. I am not her student, but I read it in one of the documentaries about her. I was young then, but it made a lasting impression on me.
That's a wonderful story! It sounds like your daughter's role model (the doctor in the documentary) had a lot of wisdom to share. The message about focusing on skill and knowledge rather than just expensive equipment is truly valuable. It applies not just to medicine but to many aspects of life.
Did the documentary mention anything else about this doctor's approach to patient care?
She was a beautiful soul.
Yes we studied it. There was an acute hospital there in Manila was named after her ❤
Wow! What an honor..❤
I gave birth to her hospital, The Children's Medical center to my 3 children in Banawe

Lola Fe was a friend of my lola and would at times visit at our old house.
I entered medical school 1994-1998. I still remember her textbook. We used in our subject Pediatrics in second year. It was brief, concise and easy to understand. I'm a general surgeon from Tacloban City. Just sharing my experience.
She was my son's pediatrician 3 decades ago....
Shouldn't this woman be in the Philippine history books as well as Dr. Abelardo Aguilar, discoverer of Erythromycin.
I was her student and practice as Pediatrician
Whoa, that's amazing! It's such a small world.
Correct me if I'm wrong she invented the first incubator?

If the entire Philippines 🇵🇭 pray 🙏🏻 to our Lord God, the Father through Christ Jesus, to save the Filipinos and the country of the Philippines 🇵🇭 against China 🇨🇳 and its aggression, then He will surely hear our prayers, protect us, fight for us, and destroy our enemies.
🙏😇🙏🏻😇🙏🏻😇🙏🏻😇🙏🏻😇🙏🏻😇
Let us all return to our Lord and have faith.
Let us unite and pray against them.
Please pray 4 times a day, everyday - morning, noon, afternoon, and in the evening.
If you can’t, then at least pray once a day.
The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness. (James 5:16)
My grandaughter used to be a patient in the Childrens Hosp. When still a toddler. They have a good service and a friendly doctors.❤❤❤

She was my Pediatrician. I will be 55 years old this year and I vividly remember her every time my parents would take me to the Children's Hospital in Quezon City in the early to late 70's. ❤
Our former Hospital Medical Director at Lungsod ng Kabataan in the early '80s now Philippine Children's Medical Center (PCMC) in Quezon Avenue, QC.

She also invented the incubator for premature infants
“Artificial Intelligence”? I question how intelligent it is based on how often it mispronounces words.
Better discriminate than getting booty up in WW2 haha!
It’s too bad we’re no longer a commonwealth and Filipinos today don’t have the same opportunities as Filipinos back then.
As a Filipino I am so proud of her knowing the first Filipino Doctor who graduated from harvar
