A powerful emotive performance of Eric Ball's masterful and greatest piece of music in my opinion. Superb playing and the soprano and bass trom playingwas epic!
I greatly enjoyed playing this piece many years ago (very enthusiastically on bass trombone) and this is a super performance. Terrific sop playing, in particular.
As I have said many times, look through a piece of music, if it looks easy look at the top Right hand corner and IF it says Eric Ball then you will find it very tricky! Beautifully written and all the tunes lead to somewhere. The whole piece tells THE story. Advent to Ascension it is ALL there!
This piece takes so long to end but it can pulled off: drop the dynamic and crescendo very slowly on the final cadence with descending low brass before the (many) final whole notes. Which you should just cue through like a wizard conjuring sound, not literally beat time through empty whole notes.
One of the greatest pieces of music ever written, and by one of the greatest composers. Well done with this presentation.
I learned of this piece while reading Bramwell Tovey’s obituary. Amazing that the first recording that came up was of him conducting. RIP.
Superb music composed by a master of brass band music Eric Ball and conducted by another master interpreter Bramwell Tovey

Bramwell Tovey conducts this magic piece of music with his usual expertise like when he conducts the BBC musicians.
What a masterpiece!
Great piece of music played it many times with the Sunderland Monkwearmouth SA band
