    I grabbed one of these half off at a nursery early in 202 not knowing what it was, but knowing it could be beautiful. I’ve since split it into 2 pots (because it was 2 stems) and they have both been thriving. It’s big, but it’s also beautiful and steady and has such a cool and chill vibe. Love these guys!!!

    I ❤ what you said about buying miracle grow potting soil inside the store rather than a bag sitting outside the store...I bought a big bag that was sitting outside and wound up with a fungus gnats infestation
    After using it for probably 3 or 4 plants, I saw a little bugger flying around inside the new bag of soil...fast forward a month, still battling the gnats with a peroxide/neem oil solution and allowing the plants to dry out between waterings
    I'll take your advice and stick to buying soil inside

    You make it sound like they're super fussy & delicate. They're not! I'm in Florida. I have a huge RC in a pot by my front door. I never bring it inside. I'm on the coast, so temps here never go below 32, but we can get temps in the 40s to 90s. I fertilize once or twice a year, maybe, and water it with left over water from my dog's water bowl. She also gets some rain. The most important care I stay cognizant of is to regularly turn it 45° so it grows evenly. They really aren't fussy or difficult to care for.

    • @plantluxxe
      @plantluxxe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michelle. I agree, Rojo Congo are very easy care plants! Here in VA, the weather is much different than in FL, so depending on where you live and the lighting of your home, the care requirements differ pretty drastically.... not everyone has the habitat and weather as FL. Many northerners struggle with tropical plants in the fall and winter months. Thank you for taking the time and energy out of your busy day to post your thoughts here! I appreciate it!

I just picked up a Rojo Congo today at a Walmart because we don’t have a Lowe’s or Home Depot nearby. • @plantluxxe
      @plantluxxe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Oh wow, this could be due to several factors. Lighting is very important. They love warmth and thrive with a semihumid yet warm location in your home (don’t let a humidifier blow on it though, disease happens then.) What fertilizer are you using?
      Watering routine? I watered mine with warm (not hot) water. Soil? Did you change out the soil or is it still in the soil it came with? They love nutrient dense soil with big chunks of bark that provide aireation. Let me know and keep me posted! I love hearing about other plant lovers plants…mine flowered and it was so interesting looking. 🪴💚thank you for watching and commenting!

    I just bought one in a 6" pot from a big, expensive greenhouse. I have seen advice to bury the air roots to add stability to a Monstera & my Philodendron Congo Rojo has several air roots. It was not very stable in the nursery pot, so I immediately repotted it into a heavy ceramic pot & buried the ends of the air roots. I think I see air roots on your specimen that are aimed into the soil.

    • @plantluxxe
      @plantluxxe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi William! Yes my air roots were buried in soil. That makes good sense and sounds about right with regard to stability! You can also put yours on a moss pole for even larger leaves…. A grow light makes the air roots get really long and the leaves very big and lush…fertilize regularly! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. • @plantluxxe
      @plantluxxe  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Sharon🪴❤️ they are different cultivars of plants. Black Cardinal has rounder, larger leaves & darker foliage than Rojo Congo….rojo congo has more red in it and is considered to be a red cultivar. Black cardinal has more of a purple hue. In the few days I've owned my Philodendron Congo Rojo, I've noticed a phenomenon I have not seen on any other of my houseplants: each morning, I find drops of water on its leaves. I also have had a similar Philodendron Imperial Majesty Red but have never found drops of water on its leaves during the 20 months I've owned it.

    I purchased my philo congo rojo just last month and it was so beautiful when I brought it home from the nursery. As time went by, the leaves were drooping DRAMATICALLY. I thought it was a light issue so I brought it a spot with good light in front of a window but it ended up scorching many of the leaves!! Huge mistake!! I moved it back to its original spot which is about 4 feet from a door that gets sun but not too much. It has regained its shine in some of the leaves that did not get scorched.. but the leaves have drooped even more.. I don’t know what to do! Please help me save this gorgeous plant! 🙏🏻

    • @plantluxxe
      @plantluxxe  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello! I would avoid spraying this plant… it has a tendency towards rust spots and fungal diseases. Putting it in a warm south or west facing window would penalty provide enough humidity. If you don’t have access to a window like that, a nice grow light over the top would be good. Having a humidifier several feet away from the plants leaves would be good. They bend toward the light, so you might want to fasten it to a pole of some kind. Thank you for watching and commenting❤️💚🪴Let me know how it goes! These plants are really cool.

      Hello Ruth!
      Hope your Rojo Congo is still alive…. I’ve been offline so I’m now just seeing your question 🪴🌿❤️ my apologize for the wait!
      My advice is: change the soil…. move the plant to a different location…fertilize with diluted fertilizer to 1/4 strength every time you water.
      If you find any root rot on the rootball when you swap soil out, you’ll have to cut that part off.

    I found this similar plant at Lowe's about a month ago, but it's all green with no red whatsoever. Otherwise it looks identical. Is there a green version? Also when I first purchased, the leaves were stretched wide. After a few days at home near a window, it perked up & leaves were more upright. Today I was sad to see it had gone back to it's original wide stretched look. A little droopy looking. It was dry maybe 2 inches down so I gave it water, enough to moisten the soil but not drenched. It's now 15 hours later and leaves have not perked back up. Should I be concerned? Or is this what it's normal state should be?

    The one in the back looks like a rojo and the one in front of it looks like an imperial red, that would be my explanation for the difference between the leaves (thickness and definition). From what I’ve learned the best way to tell is the dark red outer line around the edge of the leaves (found on a rojo, but the thin outer edge will match the green of the leaves on an imperial.) that isn’t the only difference by a long stretch, the petioles on a rojo are also darker but that’s how I was able to finally tell mine apart. Hard to tell for sure in this video but from what I can see that’s my guess

    • @plantluxxe
      @plantluxxe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kati, Thanks for your comment...yah, the leaves are Rojos. My Rojos are just super different because of the age of the plant and the lighting conditions. The older one has larger leaves. I have an imperial re, but it's characteristics are much different than a Rojo.
      Unfortunate story: I had to completely chop the leaves off the Rojo plant since that video, yikes. It was very sad day--I made a video about it and will post it soon. Rust spots are the devil...that's why I had to chop it. But, I did get footage of it, so that I could share my advice about Rust spots, since it is a real problem for anyone unfortunate enough to get them! It is still re-growing the leaves. I chopped it about 4 months ago.

    Hi Christa! Awesome video! I recently bought a Rojo Congo and it seemed to have been overwatered, but it doing ok despite. This morning I did notice something that seems concerning. In trying to guess what's going on, the best thing I can come up with is that it seems like there might be a new aerial root starting to sprout, but it is ripping the base of a new leaf that is sprouting but has not opened, yet. The split is at the very base, is vertical and currently 1 1/2 inches long, and the center is split open about 1/4 inch. Is this a normal thing when new aerial roots sprout? Is there anything that I should do?
