Yall I saw Grace perform at the original NYC Sound Factory on w27th. Yes. It was as outrageous as you think it was. The best part? Watching her moved by all of the love she received
That's because there was so much controversy around their work with illegal use of vocals and illegal samples in n their music!!! They had been sued 5 or 6 different times
GRACE--UNIQUE, SOPHISTICATED, INNOVATED, & COMPLETELY STYLISH-----LOVE IN HER IN THE 80's--LOVE HER IN THE 2000's---LOVE HER FOREVER--"GJ"!!!!!! 🥰-------KUDOS, GRACE!!!!!!!🙌👏👏👏
Not just the definition of a proper house classic but a floor filler/killer with the queen, Grace Jones - such a gem. I’ve managed to keep the original 12” pristine somehow, only played it 5000 times 😌 Others in the comments have already mentioned the legendary clubs - the NYC underground was a scene like no other - I wish I had a time capsule for anyone who missed that era!!! ✊ to all the heads across the globe
Who can forget in Redzone (NYC) when this jam was coming on - the laser lights would spell the words out through the dense smoke air - Ah yeah, those where the days!
I REMEMBER "ROSELAND", WHEN ME AND MUNCH MAN WITH THE FOOT POWDER ON THAT WOODEN FLOOR AND STARTED BREEZE DANCE TO THIS SONG, THE MEMORIES, MAN I WISH THAT PLACE WAS STILL OPEN.....
One night at the Shelter Grace was performing she came off the stage walked through the crowd and as she walked by she rubbed my bald head. That was in 89-90, and I still have yet to wash my head(lol). THANK YOU GRACE, MUCH LOVE!!!
David Morales would play this song then halfway through the record, He would stop it. take it off the turntable. Then BREAK the record. Then put another one and replay it. Crowd went Crazy in "REDZONE" NYC>
Takes me back to those dancing daze when we never stopped until they shut it down~!!!...Grace was and still is THE ONE~!!! Used to spin and dance to all of her stuff at Faces in St. Louis and Gipsy Nightclub in Las Vegas.~!!!
One of the all time great house classics. If you were there you already know. If you don't know, this is not only great house but way beyond the kind of stuff you would hear even back then. David Cole was a genius on the keyboards and Robert Clivilles was DJ-minded with the samples and arrangements for the dancefloor. They personified what is great about dance music with songs like this. And of COURSE you put some Grace in your face and the rest is herstory. :D
Thanks for the lil history lesson. I'm a young'un from Britain so this was not only before my time but in a completely different place too lol. It's cool reading these kind of comments.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!! I have this on EP (I'm showing my age LOL ) Best underground mix of this phenomenal song EVER~~~!!! C&C DID THE DAMN THAANG !!! Go Grace~~! PUT SOME GRACE IN YOUR FACE~`LOVE ON TOP OF LOVE~~!! WOOOOSAAA~~
This was also the music of the young and poor rich kids that styled their clothes on their own with a few dollars and rework the thrift store finds. I miss those days and so much creative energy!
Their fall from notoriety was parimarily due to their use of Martha Wash's vocals on their anthem track " Gonna make you Sweat" however they used Zelma Davis as the cover girl on all of the packaging and in media interviews while Martha and her powerhouse voice were cast asunder and denied because she was a full-figured gal. Aside from this, they were a brilliant production duo, akin to Barry Harris and Chris Cox (Thunderpuss).
Reminds me of "THE WORLD" dj david morales... he would rock this hard, we would be on stage dancing our asses off and the world was gone for 7minutes and 44 seconds B.L.I.S.S.
TWO WEEKS......GRACE WILL BE AT ROSELAND....OCT 27,,2012....IM THERE!!!!!!....the shelter 1999.. the last time we crossed paths......anybody got a joint!!!!
I remember dancing to this at the "Garage", and then hearing the "Flip-side" of the song being played on "WBLS" here in "N.Y.C."....... "Frankie Crocker" heard it there, and dis-reguarded calls from "Garage-goer's" that he was playing the wrong side of the record, He continued to promoter the "tired" version of this song!..... That version flopped on the charts!
Corner of Bourbon Steet and St. Ann; second floor, club called the Parade. What memories...those were the days. Does anyone know if the Parade is still up and running? gabouse65
Hello, I will be producing a voguing film during the next week for a friend who's a De la blanca house member. It's for technique exhibition purposes only. We would like to use this remix as the main track. Can we talk?
What's wrong with this upload? Half of the soundeffects is missing. Especially in the beginning there is zero musical backdrop, no percussion, no synths. Sounds so much better when the whole mix is audible.
@blibla blub This is exactly how the original mix is supposed to sound - I have the 1989 12” and used to dance my ass off to this classic 😌 You must be thinking of a rework of it..
What do you mean +6? Way too fast. You might want to try -1 for a more sensual feel. People who really like to dance in the pocket don't like those feverish pitched songs, we like it sticky and thick not fast and thin.

I don't think C&C got enough credit in their incredible body of work. They deserved a Grammy for outstanding contribution to the dance community.
That's because there was so much controversy around their work with illegal use of vocals and illegal samples in n their music!!! They had been sued 5 or 6 different times
Saw Grace in concert at club Taboo in Detroit in 89, that woman is outrageous! Love her🔥🔥🔥❤️
GRACE--UNIQUE, SOPHISTICATED, INNOVATED, & COMPLETELY STYLISH-----LOVE IN HER IN THE 80's--LOVE HER IN THE 2000's---LOVE HER FOREVER--"GJ"!!!!!! 🥰-------KUDOS, GRACE!!!!!!!🙌👏👏👏
werk mama werk! The queen of all queens, there will never be no other.

This was the year I graduated high school and went to the Sound Factory for the first time. This bassline on that sound system was life!!!!
And your world split open 🙌🙌🙌
Same here
Cole & Clivilles should be KNIGHTED for this!!!!!!!
David Morales would play this song then halfway through the record, He would stop it. take it off the turntable. Then BREAK the record. Then put another one and replay it. Crowd went Crazy in "REDZONE" NYC>

Always in the gay club in the early 90s... typical DARK room sound... Love it

Nice!
THIS IS REAL HOUSE TRACK not that stuff Beyoncé put out 😑
Why are you trying to shade Beyonce? A DJ would remix her work, the same as they do for Grace.
nice
