"There's a priest that counts your heart beats if he comes near you you must run" say what you want about the english version that line is beautiful! xxx
WOW! Most of the English translations I've heard from NDDP so far are really clunky and just don't flow at all with the music. I speak English, so while I can understand the English translations, they just don't move me like the French version. This one, however, is almost as beautiful in English as it is in French! Love it, love it, love it! Thank you, Cossynieur!
"Esmeralda have you left me...." okay, one of te rare instance that te English Lyrics is better than the French. wen Garou sang that part....awwwwwww I want to give him a hug!
The final lines always break my heart in tears... when he caresses the statue of the gargoyle... in search of love and affection... "all we'll have to give we'll give. .." Will the birds they put in cages, ever ride upon the wind...? Will the children life outrages, ever learn to love again...? Powerful truth...
"There's a priest who counts your heartbeats" lol, I love this line! it shows perfect how Quasimodo is worried about Frollo's lust for the girl. btw, donfrollo2, I love your image...it's sooo funny!
Tina sings amazingly well, though i don't think she fits for a character like esmeralda! it's strange, but still her voice is just wonderful! i love her a lot
Though, the English translation is not as good (I have seen better). It's still wonderful to see this linked with the French one. Simply, one of the greatest songs of the musical. :D
She didn't want Quasimodo, but now she needs him... but it's only a song, I know... It's beautifull though!! (sorry, don't know how to wirte though... I don't know it's good this way) Btw, Quasimodo's voice is really beautifull, I like that

The birds they put in cages [Les oiseaux qu'on met en cage] lyrics [Esmeralda:] Will the birds they put in cages, ever ride upon the wind? Will the children life outrages, ever learn to love again? I lived my life like a swallow; I arrived here with the springtime. All the little streets I'd follow, all the gypsy songs were mine. Where's my friend who rings the church bells? Where are you my Quasimodo? They will hang me as the light swells, you can break these bars I know. [Quasimodo:] Esmeralda have you left me? Do you hide yourself away? I have counted every hour; I have missed you every day. Have you left upon a journey, with your handsome shining soldier? With no marriage taking love free, like the gypsy girl you are. Have you died out in the small streets, with no prayer to get to heaven? There's a priest who counts your heartbeat, if he comes near you must run. [Esmeralda:] You remember at the street fair. [Quasimodo:] When they hurt me on the great wheel. [Esmeralda:] When you begged I gave you water. [Quasimodo:] At your feet I had to kneel. [Both:] On that day our friendship started, it will last as long as we live. Once together never parted, all we have to give we'll give. [Both:] Will the birds they put in cages, ever ride upon the wind. [Cuasimodo:] Esmeralda me has dejado?
“On that that day our friendship started... once together, never parterd.”..., wonderful translation from French lyrics.
This has got to be my favorite song of the entire musical, besides Belle and the Finale.

My thoughts exactly
"Esmeralda have you left me...." okay, one of te rare instance that te English Lyrics is better than the French. wen Garou sang that part....awwwwwww I want to give him a hug!
I used to hear the French version and this one rings strange for my ears but it's beautiful.
I think that Garou has no rival as Quasimodo.
English version is just awesome
Garou the best Quasimodo ever!!!
The final lines always break my heart in tears... when he caresses the statue of the gargoyle... in search of love and affection...

Wonderful! Both the melody and the lyrics!
Superbe chanson
The first time listening to the English version I've truly felt something. The rest of the songs aren't like the French, but this is powerful.
Thanks, i've been waiting to hear this!
A very powerful piece.
Tina sings amazingly well, though i don't think she fits for a character like esmeralda! it's strange, but still her voice is just wonderful! i love her a lot

Que bonito
Tina Arena sounds wonderful and Garou is powerful. This English versión is the best.
I'm not a huge fan of the English version of NDDP since a lot of the songs sounded awkward but this is really good :3
I prefer the French version. Though I speak English. In any case, thanks for the English version.👏👏👏
@christinedaae87 im french and find the english version beautiful !!!
love this language !!
I prefer english singer's voice much more then Helena's. Its so impressive.
Garou sounds almost like he has an (American) Southern accent. It's cute.
Michael Bublé I love you like Quasimodo I never knew my life had to be changed buble I wanna go on my goodness life Me you always be together
Tina Arena - Esmeralda
Garou - Quasimodo
In this version lol XD
amazing effort thank you so much, but did Tina Arena sing all the songs in notre dame de paris in English??
She didn't want Quasimodo, but now she needs him... but it's only a song, I know...
It's beautifull though!! (sorry, don't know how to wirte though... I don't know it's good this way) Btw, Quasimodo's voice is really beautifull, I like that

This is the only song in the whole musical where the english version is better than the french....
ahahaha. It's a joke i hope.
tina sings it even better live and i just wonder why do u think that gipsy voice is too different form usual, it's pretty the same...
Pourquoi avoir mis Hélène Ségara avec la voix de Tina Arena?
I don't care for Tina, but she sounds pretty here
tina arena has a much stronger voice .... and the tone of her voice is a lot more persuasive
