To me, this version is very haunting. The tempo way slower than the original and the cry sounds like a real cry and very emotional. This is not my favorite "video" version because it seems to take away from the delivery by focusing more on the pictures of this fan made video. There is another version with seashore scenes and showing Angelina playing the piano. Yes, this is just her and a piano. I really appreciate how both of you were focusing on the music even though it's hard to do! The pix are so adorable. In my opinion, the difference between the two versions is the emotion one feels when listening. Diana's version is beautiful, but the emotion projected does not match that in Angelina's version. Angelina, with her slowed down delivery, focussing on every word... and the emotion behind each word, makes the listener feel the emotion right in his/her soul. I l enjoy both versions, but Angelina's version really gets me.
As you said, Diana's & Angelina's versions are totally different. Diana's is a highly polished TV performance done with all the bells & whistles when she was 14 or 15. Angelina's, at 12, is as raw as it gets. She said she wanted to go to her "music corner" to see what she could do with the song & a few minutes later this is the result. No preparation, no rehearsal, just sit down at the keyboard, grandma hits "record" & she starts playing. Diana is an amazing performer with jaw-dropping vocals, while Angelina is very emotional & makes me cry with this Master Class in the use of negative space (silence). If this was a professional performance on TV or for an album, it would be much more polished. Just sayin!

This is certainly one of the interpretations of Angelina's songs that most grabs your soul and makes you look inside, its slow, smoky, sweet, intimate tones drag you and make you lose the sense of time. This was her setting at her piano in a corner of her home with a microphone and she produced this by herself never looking at the camera. This is not a song it is an artistic masterpiece. She emotes the feelings of obsessive love that the writer intended. The only question is? How does she know. There is a vast distance between this rendition and the theatrical version by Diana.

Actually, I would say Diana's version (which I like a lot) was more polished. She was performing on stage and had rehearsed her version. Angelina was just messing around with the song and there was no rehearsal. She just sat down at the piano (she's accompanying herself) and this is what came out; very raw and emotional with lots of negative space (silence). Angelina does that a lot, and sometimes the outcome is quite ragged and unprofessional (which I also like). Then sometimes she does this, which for me is the best this song has ever been performed. So many times she will simply slow it down when singing covers like this and 'Every Time We Say Goodbye', which is the only differentiation from Ella Fitzgerald's iconic version. She believes 'less is more' so many times when arranging songs. She doesn't need 'glitz', simply allowing her voice to permeate our human souls on its own. I heard a top recording pro mention that after all his years in the industry, only three singers could constantly do songs in one take. They were Beyonce, Sam Smith (the original singer of Wicked Game), and Angelina.

She emotes the feelings of obsessive love that the writer intended. The only question is? How does she know. There is a vast distance between this rendition and the theatrical version by Diana.

Actually, I would say Diana's version (which I like a lot) was more polished. She was performing on stage and had rehearsed her version. Angelina was just messing around with the song and there was no rehearsal. She just sat down at the piano (she's accompanying herself) and this is what came out; very raw and emotional with lots of negative space (silence). Angelina does that a lot, and sometimes the outcome is quite ragged and unprofessional (which I also like). Then sometimes she does this, which for me is the best this song has ever been performed.
