- Someone requested this song. I've always loved it. Especially since it was only recorded to their debut album on XXX Records, and since it's a simple but great Eric Avery bassline.

Dude I’m 55 and stop Dj cuttin and scratching when I first hear the same record of Janes Addiction and said to myself “I Want to play the bass” because of Eric A and I still play. You nailed it I constantly would say why isn’t this matching when it came to tuning and always wondered why it’s sounds ok in standard but always questioned it and you brother brought it to LIGHt!!!!! Thx I always knew it was 2nd fret on D and fourth on D but all tabs showed it 2nd 3rd. You totally nailed it. Seriously, I’m so glad I found your page!!!!!!

Thanks so much for this. I saw them my freshman year of college...up close at a small venue in Houston in January 1989 on the Nothing's Shocking tour before they blew up. Had no idea who they were. Just ... mind boggling blown away. Saved up money to buy the first CD (Triple X live show) as well as Nothing's Shocking CD. Whores was (and still is) my favorite Jane's jam. That fill is a weird little killer to figure out / sound right. I actually sent Eric Avery a message on Instagram asking him about it a few years ago ... as well as what combo of pick and/or hammer ons he does from E to F# ... I see that you slide ... cool ... but didn't receive a response. Didn't expect one, of course. At any rate ... nice job and thank you for making this vid. Wow great story. Thanks for sharing. You know it’s funny half the time I was explaining how to play this bassline in the video, I had my bass out of the frame and you can’t even see what I’m playing. I film myself and sometimes forget I have to watch the monitor too. Anyway that’s a great link you shared I’ve never seen that. In their PRIME 🔥 Appreciate the comment.. @@MurphyKargesBass Subscribed. Yes - in their prime 1000%. I saw them in Austin a few months after that Milan show. Nothing will ever top the first time, though. Just pure, unadulterated..."Who the hell are these guys? WHAT IS THIS?" blown away ...from 20ft. away. Fast forward (many years!) to last November ... my daughter attends CU-Boulder and sweet talked me into flying up last minute to catch their Denver show with Smashing Pumpkins. I scored last minute floor seats - 5th row - and Avery was right in front of us. Second song of the set was ... Whores. Made the trip / expense worth it right there. He and Brian Ritchie are two of my all-time favs ... I guess because I'm an 80's / early 90's guy ...have always zoned in on the bass over everything since I was a kid ... and their respective sounds are so prominent / integral. I'm in an 80's cover band in Houston ... we play a handful of gigs a year .... and throw in Mountain Song on occasion as a curveball set addition (female vox that can screech with clarity). I soooo want to throw in Whores sometime ... change the one word of course .... but my bandmates rightfully point out that literally no one would know it. Oh well ... maybe one day. Looking forward to seeing your project and thanks again for your vid. It's the only one out there that did it 100% justice!

Mistake 1. You Don't WANT a "recent recording" since that would be Cheney playing. You need to know how Eric A plays it.

This sounds awesome. Are you playing this clean or with some pedals modding your sound?
It’s a funny thing… but two mics are picking up what I’m doing. One in on my bass cabinet, the other is my vocal mic. 🎤 and that creates this cool and natural and very very short slap or echo. Just makes it sound a bit fatter and bigger. I’m going direct through my UAD Apollo twin. Then that sound comes from my iLoud speakers and I record that with a mic. I don’t like direct very much… so tight and dead sounding. (It has its place)I like room sounds where it sounds more like our ears hear it. 🙏🏻 thx for watching and the question

You know, off the top of my head, Scar Tissue by Red Hot Chili Peppers was also recorded out of tune, but if it's what the song needs, is it really out of tune? Just something to think about
