Two things: Unity ports are still available on mobile for purchase (neither iOS or Android got the Doom + Doom 2 release) The Doom 2 version included in Doom 3 BFG, on the 360 at least, does include online multiplayer which was compatible with the regular XBLA version. The Wolf3D levels would cause the game to desync in coop due to the changes made to those maps.
The PS3 collection was and is sick. I still occasionally play it. It just feels good to play. When the Unity version came out for PS4 it wasn't even 60 fps, so the upgrade was quite insignificant. 60 frames came later as an update.
You can't mention Doom RPG and Doom II RPG without also mentioning Wolfenstein RPG and the Orcs & Elves series. Personally, I think the latter two are where they truly fleshed out that formula, adding a lot of humorous elements, more gameplay gimmicks, and even cutscenes. The Doom RPGs were a good start, but I don't think they've aged AS well (though I've only played the second one).

After covering the Doom RPG games, if you enjoy those I highly recommend playing the expanded Nintendo DS port of Orcs & Elves. It started as a mobile phone game on the same engine as Doom RPG following it's success.
As someone that played the absolute hell (pun intended) out of Doom RPG on an actual phone when it was out, I can confirm it's a really unique experience. If you haven't played it, I highly recommend emulating it.
DOOM RPG is worth checking out. I played the first game a lot as a kid on my family member's flip phone and kept me entertained for hours on end. I never had the chance to play the second game [didn't know about it], but I played the Wolfenstein RPG iOS some time in 2009.
I got the Unity ports of Doom and Doom II for the PS4, which later allowed me to download "Doom + Doom II" for free. The first time I played the originals was via Doom Eternal.
I can highly recommend Doom RPG, I recently replayed it and it still holds up. Doom II RPG is a mixed bag. The engine is much more advanced, the gameplay has more depth, but they shifted the tone towards overly goofy humor introduced in Wolfenstein RPG, which completely takes me out of the experience. They also constantly trap you in unfair situations where you are surrounded by enemies from almost all sides where you are bound to take a lot of damage.
I never had any issues with the unity poet tbh. The aiming was a bit fast by default. Also the physical limited run classic collection had the unity ports. I still have mine sealed. I also refuse to delete them from my devices
BFG Edition on PS3 is my favorite way to play Doom 1 and Doom 2... I even prefer them over the newer PS4 release. I only wish the newest release (Doom 1+2) used GZDoom or Zandronium for modding, instead of the woefully inept Kex or Boom, whatever one Bethesda decided to use...
Well i still have unity ones on switch. And compared to recent ones, you could play local multi on one account, and you can't do it in the latest, so you can't just party with friends unless they also bought it.
Doom is Eternal....When you have the IWADs on PC that is. Then just boot up Chocolate Doom or if you want to be Modern with Mouselook, Jumping, and Crouching than GZDoom is where its at
If I remember correctly if you had the unity port you got the new versions for free? So if you buy the cheaper amazon unity port, so you then get the updated versions too?
IIRC, the Xbox Live version had a crappy secret level that you had to access through an incredibly obscure method that was impossible to find without looking online. But maybe I'm confusing it with some other Xbox port. I have the PS3 "Classic Complete" version, and I would still rate it as the best console version ever until the release of the recent Nightdive port, but it comes with a few weird quirks that upset me. They added a feature to make sounds randomly alter their pitch, which would be cool if they set it up better, but when you use the chainsaw it keeps randomly changing pitch and sounds unbearably annoying. Also the music was all recorded from some trash-tier midi player; most of the time it just sounds sub-par, but some tracks make background instruments louder than the melody and all you hear is a grating single instrument repeating like a broken mess. I also bought the Unity version for the PS4 when I got a PS5, but I did so many years after it came out, so I never experienced the janky mess it was upon release. Honestly I never knew that it was that hated Unity port until after I cleared the first episode. As far as its latest version is concerned, it was actually a very solid version of Doom, but it shamefully completely removes the original ending. I feel so sorry for the new generation who likely played that version as their first experience with Doom, and NEVER saw the ending sequence.
The PS3 Doom Classic Collection was the definitive version to play on consoles, this version presented QoL changes that are present in the recent ports of Unity and Doom + Doom 2 (even though it is a slightly inferior version of the weapon switching mode compared to the PS3 port)
I bought the Switch & Steam ports of unity doom when you still could. Thankfully i got doom 1 + 2 for free via steam & as for the switch port, my account that i bought it with was sent to the shadow realm
I would pay good money for a compilation containing Doom RPG, Doom RPG 2, Orcs & Elves, Orcs & Elves 2 and Wolfenstein RPG.

If nothing else, it’s cool that the first Orcs & Elves got a DS release that greatly increased the visuals. Second one’s still locked to Java, though.

I thought the Doom 3 BFG Edition for 360 had the Xbox live arcade originals. They can do deathmatch online.

Not quiet, you get the older versions. I bought it from Amazon and registered it to check. All I can say is you get the older Unity ones
