Thanks for spotlighting Aero Teardrops. We've owned an Aero Teardrops trailer for about 16 months now. Have camped in it over 25 times and love traveling to new places with it. We've towed it just under 5,000 miles so far. Excellent workmanship and quality materials. Had two minor repairs early-on (faulty fan; wheel bearing fix) that they covered under the 1-yr warranty even though I was in another state. They worked with a local RV repair company to fix the issues and Aero covered the costs.
Well thought out design that's beautiful and checks all the boxes without being overpriced. Simple things sold us on it: galley counter height is not too tall; light switches for exterior lights are located inside your cabin (other manufacturers had switches on the light so you had to exit the trailer to turn on the light!); wide range of options and no pressure to upgrade; willing to accommodate custom requests;; fit and finish was top notch.
We love the cozy feeling and rustic look of the wood interior. We upgraded to the hickory cabinets and love the look. Very happy with it. Have not seen any other teardrop since our purchase that we like more than our Aero. If doing it again we would definitely buy another trailer from Aero Teardrops.

What do you have for 2024 ?
I’ve own one since 2019 - “Priscilla”. She still looks brand new and I even rent it out! I love it and not much I would want to change. We’ve done a few upgrades over the the last few years - a lithium battery and an off-road jack (beefier tires). They are also a great company to work with. They also service the trailers too!
How cool is that! Love running into actual owners on here. I was just talking about off-road jacks with my wife May. We have had so much trouble with trailer jacks over the years. My new line is "if you have it in your budget, just upgrade your jack when you first buy your trailer. You won't regret it." I am really hopeful at some point the industry will see the need for stronger, more capable jacks. I got to spend quite a bit of time with them recently and I would agree about the hospitality comment. They almost have a family like relationship with their customers. And you are absolutely right, having the option to have your trailer serviced by the actual builder is invaluable. Camp-Inn who has been building trailers for over 20 years has the same model. It isn't very efficient for running a business, but great for the customer.
I own an Aero. I love it. It’s a 2020 model and I have over 10,000 miles on it. Use it year round. No complaints at all.

I have to agree with you the teardrop is the finest RV on the market. We have a 2022 TAB 400 boondock edition. I have seen hundreds of RV videos and been to a lot of RV shows and nothing beats a teardrop. Great video and review. Thanks

You made a great choice! The family put their foot down last year and said no bouncing from trailer to trailer. So they have been full time in the cargo trailer this summer. Unfortunately they missed out on a great Oregon trip. But I know we will be back as a family. They should be making some appearances soon in future videos. Neat to hear you have boys around our kid's age. What did you end up naming your Aero Teardrop?
I’m sure the family appreciates the continuity with cargo trailer but really misses daddy being around. I can relate as Uncle Sam gives us opportunities to grow while we’re apart too. I’ll see my family 10 of the next 60 days… We named ours “Fely” after my grandmother who traveled the world. I love telling my mom that we’re going camping again with Lola Fely…. We were the family who was supposed to move to Japan and thought about selling/storing our trailer. We got to move to the PNW instead!

Super great video. You do an unbelievable job! When watching these I always get the impression this is the one above all other trailers.I was almost 100% hooked on a Bean but like you stated by the time you build out the trailer I am almost at $50k. At this point why not just get an AirStream Basecamp which would meet my needs but ouch the cost. What I love about the Bean is the one peice fiberglass exo-skeleton and not needing to worry about leaking. These other tear drops, not saying they are not built as well Bean (quality), but materials break down over time and I think eventually you will run into leaking and wood damage. Would be interesting to see 5+ year reviews on some of these aluminume and steel sided tear drops and their maintenance.
Great points here Mark. I have done quite a bit of research regarding these traditional built trailers. And the research has been more within the builder industry vs owners. Well, recently anyways. I originally gathered all my information from owners. Here is what I would call the general consensus from my communication with many small camper manufacturers. Mass produced RVs and small campers coming out of Indiana are obviously not built for life. Basically after 5-10 years they are pushing towards ending up in a landfill. Small traditional trailers like this are built for life. BUT, they are not built to be maintenance free. Basically what I have found is that they tend to hold up for about 10 years before the owner or the original builder needs to do some minor maintenance. Basically at this point things start working their way loose. We saw this with our original homebuilt trailer. Easy fix, but takes a day to get her back up to speed. This is good news for most of us. Well, at least for me. I originally felt these were all designed for the landfill at some point. But that is not true at all. As long as you keep the maintenance up this means you keep the water out and they will stand the test of time. Now obviously this is not true for all brands/manufacturers. But for the ones truly building their trailers to be handed down to their kids.
100% Agree! I love Bean and not having to worry about leaking but they can be very expensive! I would love to know how this aero trailer would last. I live in a dry and very hot environment and would be concerned about how the heat would affect the structure and seals of this particular trailer.

I’m usually pretty good with dogs and it took Layla about 2 to 3 days to warm up to me. And that wasn’t without some dog treats hidden in my backpack 😆
It’s a shame that Escapod is discontinuing the Topo1, but this does look like one to swoop in and take its place. It’s a great price too. Easily $2k below other options and a lot less than others that have raised prices this year.
It really is a shame. But at the same time I get it. I think they had a bit of a branding issue on their hands. If they were to talk about the positives of their Topo 2 it would basically be saying their Topo 1 was an inferior trailer. It really isn't, it is just different. When Jen told me the news I told her that I had a big task in front of me finding my Topo1 replacement. I was actually surprised how quickly I was able to find it. And yes, not only a more affordable base price, but I think the add-ons may be less as well than the competitors. Typically when I start adding on items it adds up quick. But for some reason with Aero the price didn't skyrocket. I may be wrong as I haven't compared this, but it seems like they are staying closer to cost with their add-on components compared to other brands. I really need to learn your name one of these days. I appreciate all the feedback you have shared with the community.
@@PlayingwithSticks I agree with the poster and you but I do like where Escapod is going, though. Full fiberglass shell on an off-road trailer that is a bit more narrow and compact than a Bean, for instance. I haven’t pulled the trigger on a trailer yet - rolling with a RTT on my truck, but as my kids get older, I’ll definitely be in the market soon for one. I would want an off-road trailer but I prefer a fiberglass shell, and I personally like the stance and look of escapod better than a bean. That’s all subjective, though.
@@VirginiaHapa I agree they are moving in the right direction. Well, in terms of trailer design. In terms of a business model, only time will tell. These economic times can't be helping these companies with almost $40K trailers at the moment. I am hoping our economy turns the corner sooner than later. Subjective opinion matters though. There are so many good trailers that May will not even step foot in. It has to have certain features and a certain look to get her okay. And I get that. I am similar to her as well. And you are right. After meeting with Jen and Chris again this summer and really going over the details of the Topo 2 it is really a different trailer than the Black Bean. Similar to Topo1 vs Bean Topo2 vs Black Bean you are either going to like one or the other, but I don't think many people will be split on the two.

Drew, I didn't know you were/are an APE Teacher. I admire you even more now that I know that!!! APE was very important to my daughter's education and support. Getting both kids and adults out into nature is so important. Hope you are still involved. A suggestion: something I have not seen yet on TH-cam--reviews of campers for individuals with various special needs. Thanks for all you do on your channel.
Thanks Mary for the suggestion. I believe you are now the 5th person to request this. Unfortunately to my knowledge nobody makes a model to meet these needs. At least in small camper trailers. However, cargo trailers are the easiest option for modifying and making good use of the ramps. Unfortunately though for solo travelers the ramps are not the most ideal unless highly modified and you still have the issue of not having a secondary exit. So basically it has to be a custom trailer. When I come across one I will get it on the channel ASAP! With our involvement in Thailand we are unfortunately not involved in that work anymore. We still support it from a distance. And we are still are pushing hard for a couple of family members to get involved on the receiving end of the services. We have seen what programs like this can do for individuals and so we so bad for one of our relatives to get involved. I see her lack of social network and just confidence in general that often blooms from being involved in programs like this. But you can only lead a horse to water.
Hard to beat the Aero Teardrop price specially with all those features.
It really is. Someone in the comment sections shared another company. Fantom teardrops. I'm not sure what their build quality is like as I have never seen one in person. But the pricing is quite low.
Needs sliding cabinet doors , more convenient & less expensive.

Love these walkthroughs! As we start our DIY build (thanks to your channel for nudging us in the teardrop direction) from WanderTears (they sell plans or already built trailers) it’s great to see some features that might be great to build into our own teardrop. Thanks again for the video and check out the wandertears vaga model - it’s probably the closest teardrop I’ve seen to the aerotrailer!
Glad you are enjoying these videos. That is exactly what I hope people will take from them. For me it is less about buying a teardrop, and more about what options would work best for the individual. Once you build or purchase a teardrop it rarely stops there. Half the fun is customizing it over time to meet your current needs. I find a teardrop really grows well with changing needs and lifestyles. And I love what WanderTears is doing. I will have to check out the vaga model right after I post this.

Beautiful trailer. We own a “square drop” Hiker Trailer…maxed out mid range, 14-15k. And yes,love Matt and Wendy! Met them at overland expo, sorry we missed meeting you.
It would’ve been fun to meet you! Next year… I couldn’t believe hiker had a trailer there that was like $37,000. So neat to see they have trailers in the single digits all the way up to 37K.

Thanks Drew! I picked up my Aero Teardrops trailer - "Rule #62" - at the end of October last year. In the past 10 months I've spent about 40 nights in it and absolutely love it! As you indicated, it's not a bargain trailer, but I felt it provided excellent value for the money. The galley configuration was the deciding factor, for me. I have what they now call 'classic' cabinetry (my doors have walnut frames with clear alder insets). The galley holds absolutely everything I need for several days of camping, so I don't have to lug any boxes or bins in and out of my tow vehicle.
Many of your previous videos helped me to decide what features would be important to me - so thank you for helping me make a great choice!

Great job on the walk through as always Drew! Solid trailer...if I had to nit pick...the roof basket option looked like it would limit how far the fan cover would open... and those quick disconnects... right behind the tire are begging to be covered in mud at some point. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I find the majority, if not all companies who make an overland model say that there is enough gap for the fan to operate at full capacity. I have never tested this statement for it's validity. However, with the Bean trailer last year not being able to fully open the fan with the RTT I did notice it was functional. But the question is, is it fully functional, I have no idea. Good observation. As for quick disconnects I asked Brian about them. Mainly because I get quite a few comments saying the ones on the Topo1 are exposed to hazards on the trail. Brian said with his design being behind the fender it shouldn't present any issues. BUT I never considered mud. That is the beauty of putting these videos out for the community to nit pick. It is nice to view these trailers from different perspectives. You know me and water systems. I find them tough enough as they are. We don't need any additional issues adding to the downfalls of a pressurized water system in the field. I really appreciate your comments in here. Especially with these more off road capable trailers. They feel bit out of my wheelhouse. So it is always nice to hear your thoughts on them.
@@PlayingwithSticks I usually have my fan cover raised just enough to allow for air flow so I'm sure the roof basket over the fan is okay...the quick disconnects though I'd be concerned with getting dirt and grit in the fittings and them not working/keeping a seal....I'd like to see them inside a smaller pelican style case of their own to keep them clean on the trail.

Looking seriously at this one - what did you include in your virtual build? I’m closing in on age 69, and really like the water heater, tent, stainless counter, bigger solar and battery; and appreciate input on sink, stove in drawer, roof rack, other options? $27k without those for Hwy version
"We try to use all the space....".....except the big gap above the slide-out water container, and that gap between the face of the kitchen cabinetry and the inside of the curved hatch/ door, which could nearly double the worktop area with just a few minutes thought.
I haven't been to their website yet but one thing I might look at adding is a hand brake/ parking brake like the old M100 military trailers. Sure, it is easy enough to find a rock or two to put behind the wheels but a parking brake locks everything down solid.
Quite a few people have been mentioning these lately. Pretty standard on EU, UK, and AUST trailers. But it hasn't caught on yet in the States.
FWIW, I purchased my trailer from Aero Teardrops about 6 months ago. Since then they have completely ghosted me whenever I have tried to contact them - even when I had difficulties on the road the 1st week I owned the trailer. The trailer itself is great, but after being left in the heat for about a month this chemical smell will not go away, even though it's been in a garage for the past two months with the roof vent open.
This is really unfortunate to hear. I’m sorry about your experience. But, I’m really glad you’re posting this. Nothing beats owner feedback.

there can be much more improvements done to make this a much better trailer than it is right now , I think most people are missing alot of different aspects which is due to a bunch of factors

A decent teardrop and the price is definitely right. I am like you. I like the standard cabinets better than the “upgraded” cabinets. I think it would be nice if you could stand up that Reliance water can. I use one and always carry it with the lid up because when you put the spout on, it leaks.
If someone is considering a teardrop with a roof rack or roof top tent, remember it may affect your vent fan. My Maxair fan (automatic open) when the fan is running is either all the way open or all the way shut. On this teardrop the rack would prevent the fan like mine from working. Just something to think about when building.
We had such good luck with the two reliance jugs that came with the Bean Trailer. When we bought a separate reliance jug just for car camping and we’ve had nothing but problems with it in terms of leaks. Definitely hit or miss. Great suggestions on the jug and the fan spacing. I think it’s very good advice to tell people to think about the future of their trailer. It’s little things like this that many of us overlook in our first build or purchase.

@@PlayingwithSticks No need to be embarrassed. I have a square drop. It is a VRV Flyer which is no longer made. It is very much like the inTech Flyer Chase with some front interior cabinets, front external storage access doors for the front cabinets, bench/rear slide out drawer on the left which converts to the bed, and a small, fold up table on the right to use when it is in bench/sofa "mode". The person who built the VRV Flyers worked with/helped inTech with their Flyer. I think there may be a video or 2 still floating around on TH-cam about the VRV Flyer.

Todd and Carol have very thoughtfully created several super affordable models for comparatively much lower prices while still competing with the bigger names. I used to drive a dump truck with a bottom dump trailer, the trailer had a 14 ft long tongue, and was terribly hard to back efficiently.
Is it possible to drive to factory for hands on tour of these outstanding campers, where located and approximately how long to manufacture top model?
Two things. Could you please expand on your "hurricane hinge" comment on the cons side of your review? And, since I have not yet used a teardrop trailer, I always wonder about the real world experience with rain, at the hatch and both side doors. Thanks!
Of course. When you purchase the standard hurricane hinge if installed it often can place a bit too much pressure on the top portion of the trim/foam weather stripping. Basically there is a happy medium of how much pressure you want placed down on that foam from the top of the hatch to the bottom. Depending on the angle of your hatch, length, placement, weight sometimes it’s best practice to add a little shim of metal underneath the hurricane hinge to relieve the pressure on the top portion of the trim. Like I mentioned in the video not an issue in terms of water intrusion and dust and things like that for 10 years. But just best practice to increase the longevity of the material. Typically I also look to make sure the hurricane hinge is cut wider than the width of the trailer. This is also best practice to help the water run outside of the galley. This was not an issue with the Aero Teardrops as they have plenty of width on the hurricane hinge outside the trailer. If you watch our Bean trailer factory walkthrough even being with their composite mold said that the hurricane hinge is the weakest point on their trailer. Basically as an owner of a teardrop you are always monitoring this connection to make sure seals are properly seated.

I’m not quite sure I understand. This is like an expedition from the late 1800s correct? Was he doing this against all odds? Sounds like I’m going to have to read his story. I am fascinated by people who don’t let tough situations in their life get in their way.
Update: Alejandro Diaz an active member of the community just found us a very similar but more affordable alternative to the Aero Steel and Steel HC. Is it comparable in terms of build quality? I have no idea. Often times price reflects quality. @@onejohn2.26 I'm not going to disagree with you. Small camper prices in 2022 are outrageous. However, if we are talking within the realms of outrageous this is actually not only fairly priced. But priced better than the competitors of the same build quality and components. This is probably wrong of me. But at some point in the last 2 or 3 years I gave up the fight. I now look at these prices from a market value vs what I think they are actually worth to us as a consumer. This dog only had so much fight in him. Haha.
What do you think about the Steel vs the High clearance Steel version? We opted like Atlas for the standard version for its galley height . Clearance is better than my Subaru already. P.S.: Would love to know where you camped in OR and WA.
@@christophviehoff6808 Before I visited I chose the Steel hands down. Like you I don't like how off-road trailers impact the usability and livability of the trailer. However, after seeing "Maple Kind" and many other HC Steel trailers in person I am changing my tune a bit. Unlike Escapod and other similar trailers Aero teardrops went a bit less on the wheel size and the lift. It actually put the galley at a very usable height for me. Now I am 5'11"and I think my wife at 5 foot would probably have a different opinion. Now in terms of the Steel's clearance. It is more than enough for anywhere 90% of us would ever want to take that trailer. Like you said the Steel is going to be higher than any stock vehicle towing it. And this includes the highest stock clearances on the market. Don't get me started on Oregon camping. I had the toughest time finding any campsites. My family caught a bug when traveling oversees which delayed our trip about a week. Meaning we lost all our reservations. . Typically we don't travel with reservations, but in Oregon some areas really require them. Now when I got between Bend and Eugene I was in my element. Free camping everywhere and it was beautiful!

I like the idea of the external clamps for the galley door, what are your thoughts?
At first I was against it. I actually thought it was going to be one of my 3 things I dislike about this trailer. But as usual, I was wrong! Last summer I had issues with a number of teardrops getting dust in the galley. Definitely no issues with this one. It is the tightest seal I have felt. It also is not a hassle to do like I thought it would be. If anything it just gives you more piece of mind on the road. I actually had one galley swing open last year when going up a steep pass. I had no idea it happened until someone honked from behind me. And second this trailer was sealed in a way I have never experienced. It is hard to explain unless you hop in one in person. When you shut or open the doors you can feel and hear the suction created with the MaxxFan. Because of this air was pulled at a level that I have never felt before. When I thought nobody could beat this I ran into a seal that was even better. Wait until you see the door on another teardrop manufacture in Oregon!
Was thinking of going with Bean in UT. However I live in Portland, so their just down the road. Price seems better

Looks like a great trailer. I do like the water tank for the extended trips for washing up and dishes etc. And of course the forced air heating is great. I especially like the ability to have a table inside. For those extended rainy or windy days. Although, setting up and tearing down bedding would get old fast. I'm not too sure what the size of the bed is but it doesn't seem very long.? The drinking water cabinet is an awesome idea. It looks to have a lot of cabinet space which is always nice for storage. The price is awesome for what you get! Unfortunately something like The Outback isn't made for washboard roads. I'm not sure about the others. Your family and yourself are quite busy people aren't you. Love watching your kids grow. I think the first video that brought me to your channel was the improvements under your mattress in your teardrop. And I have been a fan ever since. Keep up the great work Drew! Always nice to see you on here! I find my lens doesn't do the inside of teardrop trailers justice. The length is actually 80 inches, same as a standard queen. To get a lens wide enough to show the inside, it tends to distort things a bit. And yes, we are TOO busy. The first month home was crazy busy! But things are slowing down now which has been great. It is crazy to think you have been along for the journey since the mattress video. We really appreciate that! And our best to you and your family as well. One of these days I have a feeling our paths will cross.

Drew, We have limited teardrop options on the east coast, I have been seeing ads for the Hero Ranger with is made in Denmark and carried by some of the larger RV retail dealers (mostly in Texas and Florida) Have you seen this trailer? if so, please share your thoughts.

I got the chance to tour one this summer and talk with their Danish staff. In terms of finish work I saw a few things that needed a bit more quality control. Just little issues with LED lights, and trim. But the trailer as a whole seemed well thought out and had pretty decent bones. At first glance I thought it was very similar to the Bean Trailer. but it’s a different style of construction. Instead of a one piece fiberglass shell it is design with multiple pieces of fiberglass, which isn’t a bad thing it’s just different. This could potentially, after 10-20 years on the road have the potential for minor leaks because they are screwed and glued, but again it’s composite so it really wouldn’t be a big deal it wouldn’t destroy the trailer, you would just have to patch it or secure it a bit. I think they have done a really good job on the design and have some good talking points for why they made it the way they did. I made a video of it, but I’m not sure when it will come out.
Camp Inn has a much nicer Galley for cooking and the highest quality marine grade hardware. The Rolls Royce of Tear Drops is Camp Inn for sure.
How about TC teardrops? They even have a bunk bed option on their 5x10 model.
I can't wait to see one in person! I had it lined up to meet up with Matt this summer from Frey's on the Side. But life happened. Hopefully we can get out to Matt sooner than later. This year the popularity of TC Teardrops seems to really be on the rise.
I noticed that Frey's hasn't updated lately, I hope they can return in the not too distant future (they and TC are about a 2.5 hour drive from me)
Matt I know is just biting at the bit to get out there. Unplanned they purchased a home this summer. Sounds like it really took up a lot of their time. That said this is why they haven’t been posting, but they are planning on getting back into it strong.

bumbumba! That is my quick entrance soundtrack. We have many folks in the community who rave about their Little Guy 6 wide. The general consensus is that it is a good trailer. My brother in-law has one and took his entire family of 5 to Alaska and back from Arizona! Wow, I could never do that. But it is still towing strong. Now the price, that is really a tough one. Before covide that would have been a little on the high end. During covid I would say that is pretty average price. I have seen these sold from anywhere from $4K to about $10K. Hope that helps. Or you may want to look at a Road Toad from Camp-Inn. You can get that brand new for about $7K base. I haven't seen one in person yet. Heading out there this week to check one out.
Can you operate the trailer with a generator
Great question! And the answer is yes. With the included shore power port you just plug-in to the shore power from your generator. Now if you were talking a power station a.k.a. solar generator, you would just need to ask Brian to add an input on the build. This would cost you little if not nothing to add. Another really cool thing about aero teardrops that Brian didn’t mention in the video is that they do custom orders. Not just components, but I’ve even seen them build custom shapes and designs for the trailer as a whole.

Is this insulated? Roof, sides, underneath?
Good question. Here is what I pulled from their website. The ceiling is insulated (R9), the walls and floor are not insulated but have 18 millimeter solid wood composite; this works well for temperature changes.
From just an aesthetic stanpoint, the CNC inset cabinetry is better looking. But I hate those black hardware elements. Go with nickel.
I rented a new Class C a few years ago and was sorely disappointed in the quality of the build. Stapled drawers and cheap laminate everywhere. The sale price was $120,000. I would prefer to go this route for 1/4 of the cost and 4 times the quality.
Crazy isn't it! Same goes with teardrops. One company sells one for $40,000 and it is glue and lamniate and another sells theirs for $25K and they are craftsman. Just shows we all have to be thorough with our research. Sad, but true.

This one is truly beautiful. I have seen some nice trailers come out of Aero. But the owner of this trailer who selected the colors and accessories for "Maple Kind" did a great job. I think it came together so well. I actually had a bit of teardrop envy when I saw it. I have a feeling if we priced out a model for us it would come to about $19K as well. I through on a few extras that our family doesn't need, but I knew most end users would appreciate. Linear time. Haha. Yes, I try to keep it as linear as possible, but sometimes I literally am in two places at once. Or at least my family is. Why I am/was taking out the Aero Teardrop the family is/was living in the cargo trailer back at elevation to stay cool. Our current full time trailer is the cargo trailer. BUT, I am still waiting on something special to show you. I am hoping to get ahold of it soon. Definitely something you have never seen before. I am super excited to show it to you...if it ever gets done!

This trailer is cookie cutter same rear kitchen same in many ways I didn't like the fenders no rear bumper if you back into something even a tap would that do real damage maybe now you can't open rear hatch who knows everyone likes and want a offroad trailer but how often do most people go camping I feel this is a real opportunity you own a rental offroad trailer company that has many different types of offroad trailers to rent , when people sale a offroad trailer they sell for less that money lost , their a company in Alaska that rents built out overland vehicles with everything you need for overlanding that's thousands saved on gas to drive to Alaska yes I got it its not the same as driving there the road trip stops along the way, I live in texas that 4000 miles one way the gas alone there and back probably 5k if not more pulling a trailer I want a offroad trailer but how often will it get used

Just borrow some of our trailers and it won't take you long. We started off this summer loving all our gadgets and gear. Halfway through they were wearing us down. Today they feel like a ball and chain. May and I can't wait to pair things down again when we are back in the teardrop . I am finding that I don't mind the built in components. It is the items that we carry around by hand that feel like they are taking away from our experience. This summer it was tables, awnings, power stations, solar panels, grills, the chuckbox kitchen. It feels like we are car campers all over again. But times that by 10x as we are doing it day in and day out. There is just something to be said about a teardrop that has everything built in. Even when you have a nice fiberglass trailer like a Scamp with everything built in. We find we need hand carry items to be used outside. So yes you have all the nice indoor amenities, but over time you really don't enjoy using them. You just want that outdoor kitchen. Sorry for the rant. It feels good to get off my chest how I am currently feeling about this setup of ours. Great for a few trips a year, awful for staying on the road longer.

You can also check out our Sellwood model as a compromise! It's a 13' canned ham and is extremely livable...and there's a bathroom upgrade as well. Drew had a hard time believing it was only 13' instead of 16'!

It is funny you mentioned that. When I make these videos I often think about friends and family members who know me outside of TH-cam. When editing this video I realized I have never mentioned that before or just briefly maybe on my base layer video. When talking with all of you it feels like I know you in my everyday life. I forgot that you miss bits and pieces of the full story. So yes, not only was it one of my degrees it was a big part of my work and volunteer time in Alaska. A lot of folks from Alaska on here know me from Challenge Alaska. A very similar organization to AWOL. This is why I highly gravitated towards AWOL as the right charity for this venture. If we ever meet in person I have some really incredible and funny stories of my time teaching skiing at Alyeska. Some of the most fun and humbling years of my life. Alright, off my tangent. Haha. Aero was definitely a sleeper teardrop for me. I had so many people reach out to me about them, but I really didn't know much about the build or their models. Sometimes something looks good online, but once you see it in person that can quickly change. It was so gratifying to show up in person and find that it surpassed my expectations. Now, just like Bean and the Beanstock we need to fight to keep this price down. I don't know how we do that though. So at the moment I will just keep talking about it any chance I can get. Haha.
That awesome Drew, my niece and her husband are two of the most adventurous young souls you will ever meet. They met in Alaska where they worked dog sled tours on the Glacier outside of Juneau. They currently live in Durango CO and are both very involved in Adaptive skiing at Purgatory. They also have said it has been some of the most challenging yet rewarding times of their lives. That sounds like a great place to visit. My grandparents spent their retirement volunteering and living on/with trail crews. One of the longest, if not the longest trail they worked ended in Durango. I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head. Both my grandparents have recently passed away. Our goal as a family is to get out and hike one of their trails in the near future. Durango is an area I have never been around.

Colorado Trail which starts in Denver and ends in Durango. Our niece hiked it solo prior to getting pregnant with their son three years ago. It’s 567 miles long and she completed the trek in 28 days. We were just out there in April after spending some time with our son who lives in AZ and then exploring some of SE Utah. We had planned on hiking a lot but I was dealing with some severe Sciatica and we could not do near what we had planned but hopefully in the not too distant future.

Aren't the Runaways fantastic! Lately they have been going a little under the radar as Hiker trailer has really picked up traction. I will have to be conscious to include them in my narrative more. Your progression sounds like us. We like keeping it small, but wouldn't mind a bit more head room from time to time. .
pretty cool little trailer that checks a lot of boxes. If I had one criticism it would be the fittings that hang below the frame waiting to be knocked off or bumped into. Overall I think I agree with you that...as hard as it is to do...while not perfect...this checks probably the most rounded set of criteria for teardrop trailer camping. It would help to better understand the frame construction and suspension setup. One concern I have with a lot of trailers is that they use the torsion axels from Timbren and others and the bounciness can be problematic in certain situations. I think Morryde, Cruise Master and others do a good job but I don't see them as much probably due to cost. One other thing that's nice to know is weather or not the inverter is pure sine wave or modified sine wave..
I'd probably knock those things off during he week in it myself as I tend to mainly run unmaintained Forest roads, wonder if I could get them to raise them up and have coming out the side of the body less chance of tearing them off!

Speaking of adaptive sports -- maybe do a show on accessible teardrops -- I know they exist (extra wide doors and such)
I believe you were the third person who has suggested a video like this. I would love to make one! My response has been whenever I come across someone who has an outfitted trailer I will surely make the video. Unfortunately in terms of small camper trailers with all my research the only trailers that are truly functional are cargo/toy hauling trailers. There are wider doors, but typically not wide enough to meet accommodation needs. Basically this would have to be something custom-made. With more and more people living off Social Security and increasing prices across the country an accessible small camper is definitely needed.
It's a really nice looking trailer however it seems we're getting away from simplicity, lightweight and easy to tow and affordability with these type of teardrops. The way you set up the tongue mounted storage units would result in several hundred pounds of weight which is too much on the back of any small 4-cylinder vehicle. So now you've just defeated having a trailer that you can tow and still get good gas mileage. By the time you spend this much money you may as well get a regular trailer since you now need a truck to tow it. I'll stick with my small Little Guy Teardrop any day over one of these trailers.
I'm not going to argue these points. If you have seen our channel we agree with you. However, there is a sub group of people with the right daily commuter and lifestyle that fit these builds.
The great thing is that they're very customizable, so if you're not interested in having a tongue-mounted storage unit...don't add one! Even items that are standard features, customers sometimes request to have them removed to save weight, space, or money. We're always happy to do what we can to meet the customer's needs and lifestyle--hence our Burnside squaredrop model, which is lower weight, simpler, and a lower price point!

Unfortunately they sold our Playing with Sticks version last summer. But they do a great job making a custom trailer for folks. So if you can dream, they can make it.
Best to camp with a portable electric bear fence. 2.4 lbs packed for huge peace of mind. Because you don’t want to feed the bears

The water storage under the axle is nice. because of its short "run" front to back, it would limit surges when breaking and accelerating. That said i hope it has at least 3 baffles inside it to prevent a side to side oscillation if the water starts surging left to right.
the only place to mount solar would be on the galley door. meaning the only time it would really charge would be if its butt was facing the sun of if the galley was left open.
now that said, skylight roves like that always worry me, anything angled upwards is a potential weak spot especially during hail events. Its going to sound weird but i wouldn't mind an option for a "pull out" steel grill. that would over and overhang over that would provide it some protection not just from hail, but falling branches, or other storm debris. last thing you want mid storm is a window breaking.
As usual you bring up the great points. I asked every teardrop manufacturer I visited this summer if they use baffles. Guess how many said they have baffles inside their tanks?
Great point on the hail storms. Where we have been traveling entire communities got tore up last year from softball size hail. A window like that would have never survived. I really appreciate how you see the things we often overlook. As for the solar. That one was really interesting for me. I am not sure if it is the efficiency of the lightleaf solar or the angle of the panel, but I got much more charging this summer at sun angles I thought would give me none. This was something I mentioned to Aero the first thing when I brought "Atlas" back. That Dometic fridge they use is a bit of an energy hog compared to the ICECO we use. But throughout the day the battery topped off much quicker than typical teardrops I took out. Which confused me because in theory a gel battery should take longer to charge. So it was either the placement of the solar, the curve, or just the brand. I would love to test it more. But I am starting to think maybe that placement catches more sun than I thought. Maybe something to do with morning sun angle?
@@PlayingwithSticks none? it really does depend on the "lenght" of the tank too, the amount of "run" the water can get, in this trailers case, the water has the entire lenght of the trailer to run side to side, and can you imagine if combined with a wind, a bad side to side oscillation started... the entire trailer could begin swinging side to side behind the tow vehicle.
And again this is why many manufacturers say you need to drive empty and/or they won't cover damages if you drove full.
@@PlayingwithSticks yep, in a case like this i might want a small propane backup generator for emergency charges. maybe a little 900-1000 watt generator that could be used in an emergency just to top off batteries during storm events.
given the fact that it would NOT be a primary use generator. i would stay away from both Diesel or Gas so i wouldn't need to worry about fuel degradation. having a light propane generator that i could run for maybe an hour in emergencies, then shut it down, and keep with the batteries.

But they also tow with really large vehicles and rarely tow a dry trailer. I just learned about the driving empty thing this past year. Very interesting.
This is very similar to my Fantom teardrop but mine has ac, sink, and torsion axel. No interior table but i dont feel its needed. My camper was also more affordable.

Hi Carol. Unfortunately we do not. The closest to that size is our Taxa Mantis video. But if it was up to me and I was eyeing a 19 foot trailer I don't think anything beats the 19 foot Oliver. Sorry about that. The mattress is a standard (home size) queen. And the weight of this model I never put on the scales. I would guess with all those features you are somewhere in the 1,600-1,800 lbs range

Brad does it again! THANK YOU! I literally haven't had a coffee since our last video. I saw some good coffee shops in our neck of the woods. We are up near the ski slopes. Nothing beats coffee at elevation! The plan at the expo was to make a video on gear. Unfortunately I had such a fun time catching up with folks and meeting new friends that my plans fell apart. BUT, all the best gear I saw there I brought back home with me. I have a lot to show you. There wasn't as much camping gear as I expected. I saw more at the Outdoor Adventure Expo in Salt Lake last year. Or maybe there just appeared to be less because I have tried out quite a few of them. Either way, I think there is another venue hiding out there where I can find better gear. Now I just need to find it!
