    Thank you so very much for your enlightening video. I’m in Western Australia & bought a second hand longarm from a dealer & the precise & cruise modes don’t work, but have found that the manual mode is the only one I have. I have done very little quilting before I got the machine but have sewn all my life. After getting it back from the dealer again, still only manual mode works & I thought I was doomed!! However after watching your video I’m a lot happier as I have now learned it can be done. Cheers I’m much happier now 😊🥰❤️💕😍😘

    Cute, of course you start in the "top left hand" side of the quilt!! We read top left to right and down to the bottom.
    Left to right, then right to left. Makes 100% sense!
    BTW, really enjoying your tutorials (freehand quilting)!

    I wish I would have been able to participate in your live chat. You have no idea how much aggravation you’ve saved me!!! I tear out way too many stitches, because I think, oh no, it doesn’t look the same as the other ones. Now I can just get creative and not have to keep stopping and tearing. Thank you!

    I do the meandering over the area and then go back to the beginning and make it look like a ribbon following the first meandering.

    I’m late to the party, as usual….but I’m so happy to have found you! I like your teaching style. You described me perfectly as that person who points out the mistakes in my quilts. 🙄 I need to be kind to myself! I’m not good at freemotion as I get brain freeze, and then my meandering looks jerky…it doesn’t really flow. I love that you “promise” if I can doodle it, I can quilt it! With love from the UK 🇬🇧 xx

    Hi Tracey, watching ALL of ur video's & loving all of your information. Q, i quilt on a hoop frane (24x47 ish). So Basting is super difficult on both sides when advancing. Should i baste the whole quilt at first before FMQ ? Thanks for your time ! ❤

      Is it hooped in a square? If it's totally hooped then the hoop is keeping everything where it needs to be.

    Excellent building block approach and explaining how each element is mutable/buildable! Sorry I missed the live presentation.
    Maybe it's just me, but since my handwriting/letters are more vertical v round, I''m more comfortable with motifs that have points v those which are round in design. Anything I can do to overcome that? And I agree about practicing....I use a white board and simple snap a picture when I see a design I like. I've been practicing pebbles and echoed "Z" shapes which I love.

    • @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362
      @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try going with some designs that are soft and 'round' but have those points you love. Ease into ones with nowhere to rest (a point is a place to rest if you want). Remember to use a really light touch with your machine also. Loose grip=smoother softer lines. Let me know how you make out!

    • @1cpamom-
      @1cpamom- 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@whirlsnswirlsquilting4362 ty for the response!!! Hadn't thought about the fact that rounder motifs don't offer a rest, but that is something to be mindful about. I was looking at a flimsy I finished today and thought about your meander + flowers. Going to practice and then try it 🤞🏼

  • @pamelagolliet5546
    @pamelagolliet5546 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have trouble getting the lost wandering. I tend to go pretty straight. How can I make it more random?

    • @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362
      @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try chalking (or drawing if you're on paper) a large meander-y line and 'follow' it while quilting/drawing your design. See if that helps until you get the hang of it.

    An absolutely fabulous tutorial ❤️❤️. Understood everything as it was explained so well. I have a question. Were you an artist of some kind, meaning have you liked doing drawing all your life? Or is this totally a skill that you have learnt by perseverance. Cheers from Western Australia. 😍❤️🥰😘💕😊. So glad I found your channel!! 🥰

    • @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362
      @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That truly makes my heart happy Joan! All my 'creative skill' was learned. I've never been an 'artist'. Lots and lots of doodling and lots of time at the machine. Keep going, you CAN do it!! 😉

    I'm having trouble finding paper pantos that I can use to create no sew zones. I know you used Scribbles. Can you suggest a few other patterns that would work? Thanks sew much!

    • @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362
      @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll have a look and see if there's some specific ones I can recommend. You can do it with anything, it's just that some will require more finagling than others.

  • @cathycurrier4443
    @cathycurrier4443 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, I understand the doodling/muscle memory thing.....but I have a problem. I WRITE left handed and I QUILT right handed. I have tried to use my left hand to steer the machine but I only end up transferring my hands for a more natural feeling driving the machine. So,my problem with doodling is I can't gain muscle memory to the same hand/arm that drives the machine! Any suggestions for me to deal with this would be appreciated.

    • @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362
      @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using both hands on the machine, use a 'catch and release' type method. Use both hands to guide the machine. I hold a pen and a fork with my left hand, everything else..I'm right handed. I get it. ;)

  • @teresawarren4098

    When you doodle, do you doodle in the scale that you will be stitching or does it matter what size you doodle?

    • @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362
      @whirlsnswirlsquilting4362  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doodle in the space you have. It WILL translate to the quilting. I promise! Doodling gives you muscle memory. Think about writing your name...you can do that in any size right? It's just muscle memory. 😊❤️
