I think the older I get, the more I appreciate actors who are able to convey emotions in Vulcans without making it obvious to the untrained eye. Mark Lenard did a terrific job of it with Sarek, especially in the movies.
"We tend to ignore it, as you ignore your own appendix." I love how immediately after that, there's a few seconds of Kirk, Uhura and McCoy clearly trying to not think about their own appendices.
Ok this show is just gold. Talk about an onion it just has layers on layers. I walked home from middle school 1977 to catch TOS at 1600 to watch re-runs. Now I'm 61 and still nuances emerge. Then I found out what a bad-ass Gene Roddenberry was in WW2 and it makes it that much better. Gene as well as all of our veterans thank you for fighting for our once great country! Can't wait for the time machine to become fully operational because then im gone.
There will never be another trio of characters like Capt. Kirk, Mr. Spock & Dr. McCoy; their relationship was the cornerstone of STAR TREK: The Original Series and as far as I'm concerned the foundation of the "true" Star Trek Canon.
Always tried to be like Spock. I failed of course. Even as a kid I thought how great it'd be to be in control of your emotions and not get bashed against the rocks by the world.
The goal is to unite the two halves into one harmonious whole. In the journey of mental development, some individuals grasp and retain information better when they read with their own eyes, while others comprehend more effectively through auditory learning-by listening and imagining as they hear a story. But why not embrace both? To enhance learning, practice integrating both approaches: read aloud while listening to the words, and close your inner eyelids, allowing your mind to visualize as you read and speak. This is akin to the challenge of patting your head and rubbing your belly simultaneously-an exercise in mental and physical development that cultivates greater self-awareness and adaptability. By engaging both reading and auditory skills together, you not only improve comprehension but also create a more holistic, balanced approach to learning.
haha, poor McCoy! :p As much as Spock deserved that compliment, he shouldn't have heard it on that very moment. But why has Spock always to show his human side in bad things as mishievious remarks, like payback? :D
his father is also cheeky. In the episode where we meet them Spock asks his father why he married his human mother. Sarek simply says "at the time ,it was the logical thing to do" and everyone smiles. Just because they are logical and unemotional people doesn't mean they don't enjoy anything either.
@@SantomPh True, but the thing is, they haven't eliminated emotion ... they've just got it under VERY strict controls. So once in a while ... it peeks through. :)

In fact we have a vestigial inner eyelid but it's totally vestigial, unlike in snakes and i believe it's also not vestigial in at least some or even most dogs.
I love how the writers always made up some nonsense biological cop-out reason why Spock was always immune to something that would seriously hurt or kill us "mere" humans. Despite Spock looking all-human, except for the pointed ears. And being half-human.
So Vulcans are much stronger, smarter and can hear better than humans. Clearly, if they ever get their emotion-logic balance worked out? They will dominate Starfleet - instead of us Humans. ☮
Evolution will do that to any species. Spock implies that all Vulcans have this feature due to their really bright sun. As he is not on Vulcan, even he forgot about it.

In the regular series production, Spock, especially early Spock, has a way of smiling without actually smiling. It's quite endearing.
Same with Data. if these characters were really as emotionless as they are supposed to be that would make them far less appealing
Spot on!!
Yup.
Sweet.

TOS: Still the gold standard after 50+ years.
The chemistry between these three guys was brilliant.
I don't know why the idea of humans ignoring their appendixes makes me laugh so much, but I got a kick out of that line.
0:55 I like how Uhura looked at McCoy when he got burned by Spock lol.
Was it just me, or was Spock genuinely surprised by the compliment??

Me too. I loved the way he cooley analysed situations.
I was 7 when the series first aired. Spock was the first adult I could relate to. 🖖

McCoy looks mortified that Spock heard his compliment 😂
I always wondered why Spock was not at least offered his own ship. I think he would have made a great captain 🖖🏻
Spock rejects being captain, he was not comfortable in that position
Hehe. :D

Curious. Why would Capt. Kirk tell Spock to lay in a course for Starbase? Shouldn't that be the navigators job?
OK so why would the captain ask the science officer to 'lay in a course to starbase 10' wouldn't that be an order for the helmsman or navigator
