Thanks for bringing us along. I'm going to be hiking the BMT soon. It's great to see the trail from your perspective.

Thanks for the video. After thru-hiking the AT last year, I needed to find a good shorter trail to hike at some point this year. Definitely leaning towards doing the BMT late summer/early fall. Best of luck with all your future endeavors!

Thanks and enjoy the trail you won't regret it. When I finished the trail it brought up a lot of similar feelings/emotions to my AT finale.

Great job on your film - thank you! I’m hiking the BMT with two friends starting almost exactly the same date: April 6 from Amicalola Lodge. So this is inspirational and informative.

Was curious on your thoughts re: Umbrella? Other recommended gear? Camp/river shoes? How best to secure a campsite in the National Park? If you ever decide to hike the Colorado Trail I’m a shuttler listed with the CT Foundation and would be happy to help.

It’s a great trail and very rough vs the AT, JMT/PCT. I would definitely get the FarOut app and it is a lot more accurate than the Guide. It was an awesome hike and I am tempted to do it again.

There are a massive amount of River Crossings along the way starting in the Northern section of Georgia area. I didn’t bring camp/river shoes, just crossed in my Altra Lone Peaks and Darn Tough Socks which really wick out moisture (did the same on the JMT). As far as SMNP, there is a web site you can secure the back country camping camp sites. Make the reservations near where you want to hike and then pick where you want to be on the trail. When I reserved my space almost all were full and when I arrive no one was there. Definitely try to spend time (weather permitting) at Wigg Meadows camp at the Top of Mt Sterling, spend the night at the Fontana Lodge (resupply), Reliance Fish and Tackle (resupply). April is probably the best month of the year for this hike and the views are spectacular…..enjoy! PS I am definitely planning on a CMT thru hike (maybe this year)I’ll be sure to call😊

So Owen overlook is less than 2 miles from the trailhead? I’d love to check that out. What’s the closest parking you can get to that trailhead? I have 2 young children that love to hike, but they have limits of course. Would love to check out the overlook with them.

Hi John, You can either park at the Springer Mtn parking lot or there is a trail crossing just after and you can jump on there. it's a great hike for kids and a beautiful view.
