I'm a professional groundskeeper and I always say, when it's hot and dry, mow it high to the sky.
Hot and bone dry here too, 38c (100f) North Okanagan, BC, Canada. I’m on the edge of a large semi desert, it’s normal to see 6 -8 weeks or more without a drop of rain through the summer.
Praying for rain for ur area 🙏us n Baton Rouge having rain everyday having trouble trying to cut it before rain showers come-but it’s pretty and green 👍🏼👊🏻
Great tutorial Josh! That best part of drought is NO MOWING!!!! Wooooooo.....
stress for farmers like me that's for sure!
I just want a break from the rain during mud season. My garden drainage wasn't on point so I lost most of my tomatoes from oversaturation.
We get big droughts in Australia. Walking across a paddock with the dry grass crunching under his boots was one of dad’s favourite activities.
The last big drought we had ended in 2020. Since then it’s been raining almost every week.
Man you got some moves for a farmer, that spreading out dance is awesome!
I missed the Premier section. Shit, I forgot to pray for rain for you for your grass! But I heard the Toto song a few times? Does that count? What did Dad say, Trust in God, but work as if it depends on you. RIP Dad. Sounds like you understand plant biology. Give those fields that bio juice! Good medicine! WOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! 07-04-2024
I cut grass yesterday for the 1st time in over a month. We got a 3' rain shower last week and i let it get some regrowth then mowed. Second cutting of hay is pretty much a no go this year will have to wait till fall to get the second cutting.
we finally got some rain last night....I feel like I can hear the grass growing!!
Haven't mowed in 3 weeks. The last mow was at the highest setting. I am in a valley, so the moisture is good, and the grass is nice and green.
In 1945 my father and friends along with grandpa dug in water lines in from the lake up to the homestead for the garden and the flied to water set on 15 foot high pipes with sprinkler ends. It served on to purposes to water the ground but also for fire protection run on a gas engine by the lake
Thanks, very informative!
Opposite problem hear in Wisconsin. Thanks for the information.
Washington state too.
People don't realize that if they really pay attention to how much water their grass gets they can have a lot more healthy yard. Watering your grass every day is not a good thing. The stronger the roots the healthier your grass is. Less likely to get disease too.
I thought the Grass said WOOOOOO when it rained?
😁let it go let it go ? Would be nice for a FROZEN spell bout now. I have not mowed sense it stop raining. thanks
Good point… I never thought about those cracks in the soil and thought of them as a good thing… Now I’m thinking about how those cracks allow seeds to get down, water to get in deeper when it does finally come
Good morning !! 🌹🌹🌹

Then why do weeds only grow when it’s dry?
"weeds" are your drought tolerant warm season plants....they thrive in conditions where non native cool season grasses don't
Is the millet sprouting?
yeppers
Over grazing is not how much you take, it’s coming back to the plant before it’s fully recovered. It’s all about management, we are still on first rotation and have at least another 45 days on that. With 80 days recovery the heat don’t play that much of a factor in the recovery of the grass.
you must be in the south somewhere.....80 days is all summer long! How many 80 day grazing periods can ya get in a year......only 2 of those grazings will have grass that's actually growing right? I'm very curious as to where you live if you're getting 80 days and still have grass growing....do your pastures get "bushy"?
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Michigan check out my channel Josh. Look for the “long grass grazing” title you will enjoy
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer my pastures look beautiful, I am in Michigan. We are also stock piling an entire farm, running 120+ head on 90 acres and stock pilling 30 for early winter. Non- selective grazing is a game changer!
just checked out the channel...bro...we gotta get you on the strainrite posts!! farmfencesolutions.com get yourself some strainrite posts they'll last 10 times longer!
