Thanks for uploading. I also do small repairs here and there, not on boats but other things. If a repair works and holds up, it is a good repair. That is my philosophy. 👍
Hi, should have used White MarineTex. That stuff is Great. I fixed a broken crankcase on a 1970 60 hp Johnson back in 1978 after a broken Piston Skirt was pushed through the crankcase by the Piston Rod. I ran that motor till 2005 then gave it to my son that used it 5 years till he sold the boat motor and trailer. Marinated is Good Stuff. Glass work isn't hard, you just have to do a lot if sanding and filling, take your time. Good Luck, Ron B.
I used a 3/8" diameter x 1/2" tall grinding wheel - see below. Good luck with your project! www.amazon.com/Dremel-932-Aluminium-Oxide-Grinding/dp/B00004UDIT/ref=sr_1_10?crid=1M4KA5VJZ4M39&keywords=dremel+grinding+bits&qid=1676381475&sprefix=dremel+gri%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-10
I also used this smaller grinding wheel to open up the hairline cracks: www.amazon.com/Dremel-84922-Silicon-Carbide-Grinding/dp/B00004UDKD/ref=sxin_17_ac_d_bv?ac_md=3-1-VW5kZXIgJDEw-ac_d_bv_bv_bv&content-id=amzn1.sym.8f2bf95d-b9c2-4e6d-96a9-5fdf77a1951d%3Aamzn1.sym.8f2bf95d-b9c2-4e6d-96a9-5fdf77a1951d&crid=63TFESARHV2T&cv_ct_cx=dremel+grinding+wheels&keywords=dremel+grinding+wheels&pd_rd_i=B00004UDKD&pd_rd_r=5a677e19-861c-4aa0-97ae-fb810ea3d1c4&pd_rd_w=cSJCB&pd_rd_wg=EShit&pf_rd_p=8f2bf95d-b9c2-4e6d-96a9-5fdf77a1951d&pf_rd_r=QBQTS2DEWRCZYZE4R53G&qid=1676724990&sprefix=dremel+grinding+w%2Caps%2C89&sr=1-2-270ce31b-afa8-499f-878b-3bb461a9a5a6
I would disagree with good job. I only comment so you know the repair is totally unacceptable. You installed a epoxy plug not a repair. I wish you well.
I agree. Not trying to be critical but constructive and I can appreciate your effort, but having grown up in fiberglass manufacturing with a father who was a sought-after SME in FRP, I would encourage you to do your homework before leading people down the wrong path.

Thanks, Ron - I wish I had known they make white Marine Tex - would have helped a lot.
good job sir,it turned out very nice. Did the hardener come with the evercoat gelcote,or no?I need to do the same repair on my boat soon.
Thanks. Yes, the gelcote comes with hardener - it's a pretty simple job - you'll do great.

One tip is to add thick layers of gelcoat and then take it down with wet sanding...
Thanks...that would have prevented the black marine-tex from coming through after sanding.

Thanks for the feedback. It's mostly a cosmetic repair as it is so far above the waterline.
whats wrong with an epoxy plug?
@@fixingstuff2647 back in the day ships were plugged with wood and cocks were made of steel

Next phase you should spray the gelcoat,,sand and buff..Perfect
Thanks...will do!
A note, Use a Sanding block and try to Smooth it as you go. Rom
Thanks. Yes, a sanding block would have been helpful.
Gel coat over epoxy, hmm!
Are you worried that the gel coat won't bond to the epoxy?
