when I was working at a Yamaha/Suzuki dealership. there was news going around the shops, because all the mechanics and people that worked in the shop, so you kind of knew each other. The customer brought his Goldwing into the Honda dealership where he bought it new. It was still under warranty. His engine on his Goldwing had some type of an Oil related failure. This was back in the 1990s, I don’t remember exactly what the part was but it was extensive damage. The customer did his own oil change, and used a Chinese made chrome oil filter. Honda rejected that warranty claim. The customer ended up buying a Goldwing engine from a salvage yard, and that dealership installed the engine. He bought at the salvage yard, at the owners expense for labor and parts… It says, in every owners manual I have ever seen, do use OEM parts. Original equipment manufacturer parts.
I had the same experience, i bought an oil filter from the bike shop that was too deep, when i let bike off centre stand only to puntcure the filter. Lucky I saw it leak. Lesson learned. Great video.

I have had my license for about 20 years now, but never really owned a bike, I was about to buy an 03 Suzuki Boulevard c50. However; I decided to buy a 2010 NT700 ABS with 30k miles and and R-Title from a dealer for $2500. I thought it was a great deal, but who knows I am new to this any how. It was already registered so I don't have to worry about it passing inspection.
Never had a problem using a Fram oil filter on any of my motorcycles. From my Fz-1, Interceptor, Seca Turbo, V-Strom, Ninja 1000, and my 1986 SRX 600. Oil is a different story. I'm a believer that synthetic oils frequently damage the clutch, especially on old bikes. or the cause clunky shifting. Since oil change intervals are 3000-4000 miles there's no harm in using standard car oil. I use Castrol GTX 10w-40 since I live in Florida.
The oil filter accident happened to me as well Used the same filter as on the NT650V Deauville. For some reason in the forums they said you can use the same filter. After oil and filter change and putting it down from the centerstand, i started it and wanted to make a small ride around the block. Hopped on and pushed the bike back and saw the trail of liquid Immediately shut down the engine and realized that i covered both tyres in oil with that. Came to work like 1hr too late because of that
Thanks for the insight, I find after market parts are not much cheaper than the Honda parts, here in the Uk In fact I just bought original equiptment Brake pads from my St1300 from my local Honda Dealer cheaper than the aftermarket EBS brake pads.;
I have used the Walmart supertech st6607 filter for a couple of filter changes now. They have been White. Today I purchased the same part number, but it is blue. I noticed that the length was just a little bit longer, which doesn't amount to anything more than 1/8 of an inch longer than the old white filter. I will be super careful to observe at the next Oil Change what the center stand does to that oil filter, before I fill the crankcase with oil! That's assuming I decide to go with it, because another thing I noticed on this updated version of the st6607 filter is, the inner core which prevents the pleats from getting sucked into your engine is made out of a black plastic grate now, instead of a perforated metal sheet, as on the old white filter, and every other oil filter I have seen. I haven't decided if I want to go put black plastic with nothing in between it and my engine, in the event that the plastic were to fail and a piece were to crack off. After all, that plastic is under a lot of heat Cycles.
just wondering, I bought a smoke Cee Bailey w/s off of you back in 2010. had to get rid of it though, but looking to find a good quality used NT here soon...
Yes. 21,000 miles and running like new with only preventive maintenance and normal wear items such as tires. So far a very dependable machine. I could see these being of great value on the used market.

After some research, two further choices: Fram PH6017A (six plus bucks at WM) or, even better, Super Tech ST6607 - $2.97 every day at wallyworld. youtube videos cut it open and it is very well-built - 99% and 10K. The bike master reccomended filter 17-1608 is 2 1/2 inches and fits perfect

The K&N filter is the stock length BUT it has a removal nut that adds some length. Does anybody know it it clears the center stand?
