Love the truck..I’m just converting a Mercedes vario and have found your electric system video helpful so thanks 👍🏻 out of interest what’s the interior dimensions of your box?
Hi Matt, slightly off topic of this... Looking at the DAF’s as i’ve mentioned before for work with a crane. Now towing trailers. Would be really useful for our Plant. Seems army state tow capacity at 5500kg. Question - Is this due to army having NATO hitch, did you get any info with truck or know from your experiences if you fitted an uprated HGV trailer coupling could you tow heavier? Cheers, enjoying the videos, seems you have started a bit of a theme as lots of others buying these now & videoing their builds! Never used to be anything on here on the DAF’s. Sorry, another question, roughly what weight would you be happy putting on your roofrack? You keep about 200kg up here...think a quad would go if I had the crane to get it up there?
Hi Dan. If not already become a member of the Leyland af T244 face book group. Full of helful information. There are 2 groups. maybe join them both but one is more active. I just looked at my VC5 and there is not weight limit re trailer, its just blank. I know of some one who has pulled 12 ton with their daf. Roof rack. Ive had around 300 kG up there. Not saying its ok to do so but thats what iv'e had in the past. Had the bike on the front and filled the roof with fire wood when in Siberia in January.
Yes a number of daf vlogs now. Though I am probably moving away from the Daf videos and moving to a wider audience. But i will make videos on any Daf specific mods I make to Matilda.
Matthew Payne | Adventurer | Filmmaker Appreciate you taking a look. Good idea i’ll join that Facebook page sounds like someone may be able to shed some more light on it. Pretty sure they could pull it as never heard of gearboxes being weak and just as heavy as a Mog... Hoping it’s just a military spec otherwise i’ll have to fork out lots more on a mog to get the 25 yr age and I don’t fancy the Bedfords TM 4x4 which are also more pricey. Cheers will keep watching!
Hear in the USA it is VERY hard for anyone to get insurance on a motor vehicle that is not registered in the USA. be prepared it could take up to a year to locate insurance. at this time i don`t know any company that will insure you.
Daniel Poczynek, it used to relatively easy until a couple of years ago. The new rules decimated my friends business, he used to run motorcycle toured in the US, shipping bikes from here in the U.K. so owners go to ride their own bikes across the U.S.A. I believe the introduction of GDPR regulations are what has caused this.
Uk insurance requires evidence of MOT and road tax. It’s ok if you insure and go for a year but if you are away for more than a year and try to renew doesn’t the insurance Co ask for proof of road tax n MOT? Also what about insurance for your belongings ?
Dimitris Tsagdis I insured my truck in Turkey when coming back so I was covered for Europe. At the time I had not Tax nor MOT. I did not volunteer this information though. When it come to the insurance in these countries my view is it’s a piece of paper I need to have. But I don’t expect it to be of much use in the event of an accident. If it is then bonus.
Matthew Payne | Adventurer | Filmmaker Tnx; lucky you. In my experience with UK insurance was that they wanted copies of these things within the 14 cooling off period otherwise they would invalidate your insurance. Also lucky nothing happened on UK soil that would require your UK insurance cause then the insurance Co would argue that you invalidated your insurance contract by not having a road worthy/legal vehicle on the road. The counter position of course could be that you were on route for the MOT test, etc. But we all know how nasty insurance Co can be when there is the time to pay out. Still what about your belongings, camera gear, etc.
@@dimitristsagdis7340 Personal belongings were not insured. Had health insurance though. Think I used Big Cat. Only insurance company that was reasonably priced and would insure you mid trip, as I did not take out insurance until having left Europe.
Hi Alan. None of the countries I traveled through in Central Asia required a Carnet. Just some import paper work at the border. If you are traveling with 2 vehicles, like a truck carrying a motorcycle its best to have the motorcycle in a different name to the truck, but in the same of someone with you. Russia changed the rules recently. I do have a video on this on my channel.
You talk a lot about "insurance" I assume you mean 3rd party insurance - many viewers will be assuming you mean full insurance - ie fully comprehensive insurance - huge difference! Any perspectives on the possibilities to get fully comprehensive insurance coverage beyond Europe??? I know one company in UK who used to offer it (Cambell Irvine) but they don't any longer - do you know somebody who does offer it?
Hi. I don't know any one that will offer it I am sorry. My view is I am paying for a piece of paper that means i can legally drive in that country. I do not expect anything from it other than that.
Thanks for sharing you experiences!
Really useful for the budget calculator, thanks Matt.
Hi Matthew, this insurance business is a minefield. Thanks for sharing, very informative.
Very informative and useful video!

Sorry cannot see the details of the insurance fixer.
Hi Vince. I am trying to get his details and will add them in the description when i do.
Hi Matt, you didn’t mention a carnet de passage, is that no longer relevant?

Matthew Payne | Adventurer | Filmmaker Thanks for the reply 👍🏻
