Can you imagine being the rescued toddler, and growing up/becoming an adult, and realizing that you are ALIVE and HERE because another CHILD gave her life for you? I wouldn't even be able to process that.

ONLY when you lose a child, are you FORCED to acknowledge and be grateful for the time they had with that child and KNOW that they are NOT to blame for her passing. It’s not rocket science to deduct this girl likely was raised by the man in this video. Who makes it glaringly clear that he adored, protected and wanted her. The car is parked in driveway. Kids are outside. A horrible thing happened that was the result of that child ****going out of her way**** to be a sub human- love filled hero. No one is to blame and it’s just a moronic and grossly ignorant statement to ask where her parents were as “they’re to blame”.
You may think you don’t effect anyone when you make a “small” statement like that. You don’t know who may read that and have a connection to something like this scene- that have likely heard a version of what you said a million times and YOU make it a million and 1.

This was five years ago? Wow, what a brave kid. Both of them. To raise two kids that will put themselves in danger for others is a great thing. It is so sad that her parents and grandparents lost her, but her actions will be remembered and eternalize her.

I agree. But when he's older, I'm sure he'll understand that it's the same thing when it comes to war. The way I see it, both people put their lives at risk, and it is definitely possible that some will survive and some won't. As long as he's able to recognize her for what they both did, and as long as he looks at the positive things about her, I'm sure he'll understand everything.

This happened to my 10 year old nephew, a car pulled in super fast at a Denys and ran over the side walk, my nephew pushed his little sister out of the way, and the car crushed his legs, his legs were extremely mangled, and not only that, but the driver would not back up to get off his legs because the driver was in shock from hitting my nephew. He almost died on the way to the hospital, he needed a lot of blood transfusions, and several surgeries. We thank god he is still here with us today, he has issues with his legs now of course, but he is with us! And he is our hero!

The owner probably didn't park it correctly and the children were just playing next to it.

The fact that they were playing so close to a driveway probably means they weren't in the middle of the street. They could've been on the sidewalk directly behind the car which would explain why she wasn't able to get herself out of the way in time.

Another 10 or 12 year old girl saved a baby from bullets, she got hit and died. When he graduated from high school he walked to get his diploma holding a big portrait of her and dedicated the diploma to her.
Crying yes but also maybe he will take that realization and do some amazing things in his life and live for both of them. And the baby who was saved by her brother, well I hope he lives a great life too and does great things with his life too. But sadly her brother is being overlooked even though he risked his life too. I was in a really rough patch back then and seeing that made me really stop and think about how she put her siblings before herself. It wasn't meant to be a joke or a way of making me look cool, so sorry if that's how you saw it. It is really sad that she passed because of this, but she is still a hero! this is clearly a tragedy and she should be remembered but I would have loved to see more recognition for the brother he risked his life too he just got lucky. he did the same thing.

It's a possibility that the brother didnt want to speak out. I'm sure he was dealing with alot of difficult emotions on top of the grief of losing his sister, chances are he (or his parents) felt that the tv recognition might have been too much for him to handle.

Among the first things we take in as babies is that the older & bigger siblings will care for their younger siblings, a behaviour that will never leave them. I don't know if that is instinct or a pre-programmed behavior-type thing that's already in us (of the older looking after the younger).
But if a village raises a child, it's always the older raising & guiding the younger.
If only everyone had a fraction of that little girls courage, we'd be living in a much better world
I just saw this now and it’s eerie to think that this girl and I were the same age at the time of her passing. This is girl is incredibly brave and I’m not sure if I would’ve done what she did at the age of 10.

Who was watching these children? Girl didn’t have to die if there was proper supervision. The fact you have to hand out an award because some adult didn’t do their job is appalling. The girls sacrifice just minimized the tragedy, not made it better.

I can't believe it's been 4 years already. I couldn't help but feel out of place when we were told. I barely got to know her, but I thought it was cool that we met somewhere out of school before realizing we went to the same school after summer. I just thought it was amazing what she did and even if I barely got to know her, I love her for who she was.
