Really good song, and amaaaaazing video (as usual) by Zbig Rybczynski! He made so many cool, experimental, funny, and truly innovative videos in the 80s and early 90s. I just wish these pieces could be restored from their original masters and exhibited in new resolution. I'm not sure all of them can, as this was just at the beginning of HD video and very few people used it. Zbig was hired by Sony to make use of their motion control HD camera, at the time the very cutting edge of technology, and what he made was an incredible suite of "classical" music videos called The Orchestra. It's well worth a watch if you can find it, but sadly it has never been released in anything but DVD quality, basically half of it's resolution!
@@scottfowler7680 Probably where I saw it, that or the other show UP! All Night (Friday and Saturday). They had a lot of great vids that didn't get seen on MTV -- like Art of Noise, also by Zbig, and Accept's Midnight Mover, again, Zbig. They had "Surrender Your Heart", by Missing Persons (video by Peter Max), "Don't Nobody Move (This Is A Heist)" by Tony Powers...
Mine, too!! I LOVE this era of the`80's!!!! Between joining my band, recording or first album, getting laid for the first time and all this incredible music I had to listen to, I had a BLAST!!!! Hopefully VERY soon I can start making my `80's compilation and ths will most DEFINITELY be on it!!!! Larry Fast produced this and played all the keyboards. I met him once about 10 years ago, MAN, is he short!! But, most people are, to me. I'm 6' 9".
Good song! I don't remember it from back in '85, but I DO remember seeing the video for "Talk to Me." I would have never guessed both songs were from the same band.
@@thebull3206 Night Flight and Up! All Night both showed a lot more esoteric stuff than MTV generally did. SOMETIMES you'd see MTV play the more exotic stuff, but they were much more basic pop focused than NF or UAN. If it was on MTV it was on from like midnight to dawn ET.
This album is cream of the crop, this song just touches the surface of how terrific it is - The Common Tongue, Te Amore - and notice how the girls are all almost beautiful?
@gothdancer99 Well, around the time this came out, Larry Fast (also known as Synergy), the keyboard wiz on this album, was busy producing other bands like, FM, from Canada, and I THINK Nektar, as well as a few others, mostly on Passport Records at this time. Very possibly, this was a one-off deal. When I met Larry a few years ago, he was playing keybords for Tony Levin's World Diary.
MTV didn't play THIS video much, if ever at all, anyway. THEY were too busy playing Michael Jackson, Madona, Def Lepard, Kenny Loggins, U2, Phill Collins, Huey Lewis, . .. etcetera to give THIS much play. MTV actually kinda sucked, even back THEN, when you really take time to remember and consider it .
It depended a lot on the time slot. They ran more unusual stuff if you were watching after midnight. Not usually stuff like this, but they did have one awesome promo for the Hoodoo Gurus: two members of it -- the Bass player and the Singer/Guitarist, both looking like drug-addled burnouts -- Bass Player: Hi, We're the Hoodoo Gurus! Vocalist: On MTV! Bass Player: Who are you? Vocalist: And what are you on? Laughed my ASS off.
I'm sorry! The first music video done for this song (In the early 1980's) was better. Could someone please dig it up and put it on TH-cam Music, and trounce this current video. The original had only one platinum blonde throughout the whole video. There is one scene in it where she does a back flip off a grand piano. Does anyone remember this?Thank you.
You are incorrect!!! I was in the first ORIGINAL VIDEO THATS me in the 2 piece bathing suit. It was directed by the brilliant polish director Zbigniew Rybczynski look it up before you JUDGE!
That's me in the silver bikini...I remember it well...a looong time ago! Fun shoot with the great ahead of his time Zbigniew Rybczyński
Thats amazing. I LOVE this group so much, and this is my favorite song.
His videos are miracles
I know this went nowhere back int he day...but it was still one of my 80s favorites. Looking at it now...it's quintessential 80s.

They were a staple in the 80's on a series called Night Flight.

Saw many times on Night Flight..USA
Remember Night Flight well❤❤❤
The video is a masterpiece! So is the song too. Amazed it doesn't get more views? Then again there's no accounting for taste.
Hey, you have to know about it to find it, eh? Unfortunately, it's not like they're a well-known band.

Night Flight brought me here
Still have the entire album, and the 12" singles for this song and Talk to me. Such a great group.
Cool song and very original and creative video.

IMHO - THE BEST SONG OF THE 1980s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Love this , it was so Under rated
The lyrics of this song have always made me think of Edie Sedgwick...
They showed this video on Night Flight, but not MTV. I had been searching for it for years.
/Didn't realize her name was Rena and not Rita.
It was big on the all music video TV station that ran for a time in Boston...
According to the Billboard Magazine June 8, 1985, page 41, this was on the MTV playlist, for May 29, 1985
It was definately on MTV in the 80's, that's where I first saw it.
Wolfmanjim is correct - this was on Night Flight in 1983, then only later on MTV - Night Flight used to play different videos than MTV for awhile.

Great sound/story, too bad they couldn't deliver more like this
Bought the album when it came out, but never saw any videos for them. 'bout time!

Great album, too
So crazy ... I love it !! :-)
V66 in Boston served the same purpose, and that's where I saw this video!
it was u68 in NYC
