  • A reboot of this video because I discovered today that it had only been uploaded in standard definition and also a viewer had not heard the call so there is enhanced sound on that section.

Lovely footage, John. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we got to see them all the time? I wish!!! Take care, stay safe.

It would Michael, I actually saw one with a twig in its bill like it was thinking of building a nest but guess it was just practising! Stay safe too!

Wow that’s great! Such a beautiful bird. It’s a pity we only see them every five years but I guess that means we treasure our sightings even more.

Thank you Knut, we’re not lucky enough to see them every year but when we do they always seem to end up in retail parks feeding on the berries that the more timid Thrushes are too nervous to visit! Best wishes to you too, Kind regards, John.

Thanks. It's not every year we see them here either. This winter, there were only a few individuals roaming, here in the south. I did not see them.

Thanks, once this terrible situation is over I plan on becoming a right royal pain in the arse around Stafford Borough Council, and God I love it. To ahem, encourage them to plant more rowan and other berry bearing trees around our swamp. I've also been inspired by this to investigate with Staffordshire Wildlife trust on the viabilitly of planting some rowan and such over Doxey Marshes. The home of Sid and his hopefully new bride.
I'll keep you posted on the situation

A good idea! They had Rowan Trees over the river in Tesco’s Bristol and dug them all up apparently to spite the birders that were in their car park taking photos!

Many years ago I found a little ‘fern’ growing and planted it in the garden. In no time I had a full grown Mountain Ash tree covered in berries that the Blackbirds loved. They are easy to grow and I’m sure you will be successful.

Not too long if mine was anything to go by and mine started from a 6” seedling.

@@johnluk Music to My Ears. My Rowan Mountain Ash came in today by UPS. I planted it this afternoon in the front yard. It is about 2' tall, and I purchased it from The Home Depot. It came bare root, but I dug a good-sized hole, sived all the soil over a 1/4" mesh wire to retain the big rocks, set it in place and watered it in good. Now, I'll hope for the Cedar Waxwings one day. My Washington Hawthorn should start producing soon. It's going on three years old.

@@outdoorztime2923 Good luck with the Waxwings. I know they also like apples so that’s another tree to think about planting.

Yes, always a shame about background noise interfering. The worst was trying to record a Nightingale in Highnam Woods with a busy road running right next to it.
