    Your tulip shape bowl appropriately for the wood. The greenish color really popped when you put the finish on. The feather was a bonus.,

    Gary what a fantastic bowl, when you started I wondered what the outcome will be the wood the grain and the crack is awesome and stunning.

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Kobie I also wondered what the outcome would be. I was really happy I could leave that branch that was in the middle bending upward. That is what I was hoping I could be able to leave in the turning. The surprise of that crack running down it was a real bonus.

    What a wonderful piece, Gary! It's hard to know when to stop, isn't it? I would have turned exactly the same way but not sure I would have gotten such a great finish. Really like this one, great job!

      Phil thank you more than 50 times. That's at least how many new subscribers I have.
      I had visions of having it bigger but that wasn't working. But I am very pleased with the results. I was very tense cutting the tenon off though. But all went well.
      I would never had even tried anything like this if I had not come across your channel. You inspire me.
      Thank you again.

    Hello,
    I see that you are using the Laguna 18-36, which is the lathe I use also. Have you had any problems with the digital display or the stop/start switch?

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Edward I have not but I take it you have. What is going on? I think the only problem I have had was the banjo not locking done and the live center making a clicking noise.
      Both problems were resolved. How long have you had yours? Laguna has been good to work with.

    Howdee from Phil's channel...….he wasn't wrong in his recommendation to yours......that's a great piece.....I couldn't put anything in that bowl and cover up any of its beauty...….New subscriber here :) Thank you for your talent and share!

      Well thank you so much. I was really happy with it. My wife said it even looks like a tulip. I just was amazed to find all the hidden features.
      I am grateful that Phil gave me the shout out. I had mostly done segment turning up to the time I found Phil's channel. Now I look for weird pieces of wood.
      But I am starting a segment bowl wit a bit of a twist.

    Hey Gary,
    I have had the lathe for about two years and have had problems with the digital display and the on/off switch since I've had it. Laguna tried to resolve the problem, but it continues to be an issue for me. How long have you had yours?

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Edward I have had it since July 2018.
      The issue with the banjo was the shaft that locks it in place had a slick paint or something on it. They sent a new one but I had sanded the original and that fixed it. When I got the new one it slipped also.
      They sent an email asking me to send the old one back. I sent the new one and explained the problem. They thanked me and said they would let the manufacturer know about the issue.

    Love it. I've seen and even cut down poplar but what is tulip poplar?
    ~Kevin

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand that the tree has tulip shaped flowers. I was given the wood after the tree was cut down so I didn't see it before.
      Years ago we used poplar at a pattern shop I worked at. It was greenish colored. It was not very easy to work with.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

      You should google it, its not really in the Poplar family, its an Eastern tree, and I wish we had them in Minnesota. Fast growing and good for woodworking, and they look nice alive too, with yellow flowers.

    You skipped over how you initially mounted it to the lathe. I would love to have seen that!

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You right I forgot to mention how I mounted it. I used the wood worm screw that is in the chuck and should have mentioned that.
      I was still new at making videos and now try to show or say those details.
      Thanks for pointing that out it is always helpful to know what to improve on.
