    Great video. I installed the hitch and didn’t have time to do the harness yet. Your video was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you and keep up the good work!

      Hell, I've gone 5 years without doing the harness... Never been stopped for no lights on my utility trailer, but I use it that often and hardly ever at night... Then again, the trailer doesn't have lights on it anymore because my dog ATE the lights and wiring... He's not around anymore, so I'm getting ready to rewire the trailer and figured I might as well install a wiring harness on the JL also...

      My first "mod" was to remove the rear seat on my 2-door JL, wrap it up, and put it in permanent storage... The *second* mod was to install a JK's receiver hitch on the JL... Better than spending the $900 or so for the factory towing package...

    Routing the right side connector up to the light was a pain in the butt... There just a small hole that is large enough for 2 fingers and you can't really reach both the top and the bottom at the same time... An extra set of hands would be useful -- preferably a SMALL set of hands... :) After trying to do it by hand and failing, I eventually came up with the idea of taking a fiberglass rod (like you use for fishing wires through tight spaces in attics) and pushing it through from the top and then taping the connector to the end of the rod so that I could pull it back through...
    I'm pretty sure that it would be possible to wire it to the 12V accessory outlet in the cargo area, but I figured it was probably less trouble to run the wire to the battery than it would be to undo all the clips on the driver side cargo area cover...

      Im pretty sure i used an fish for my wires. It can be tricky. Is it all working now.

    • @seanseoltoir
      @seanseoltoir 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JeepingMo -- I used the fiberglass rod for one routing, a single strand of aluminum electric fence fire for another section that required bending around a corner, a single strand steel electric fence wire for another part, and a double twisted steel electric fence wire for the last section of the frame between the passenger rear quarter panel and the passenger front quarter panel... Routing it inside the frame rails can be a pain... All that is left now is to put some steel wire protection and tape around the portion of the wiring that goes through the frame for abrasion protection... Maybe not absolutely necessary, but I figure I might as well do it while I'm at it... It'll be easy, compared to routing that damn wire through the inside of the frame... Routing the wire through the frame would have be a LOT easier if wasn't so cold and I was having to crawl under the Jeep and could use a lift instead... My old bones don't like this cold weather... 50F and raining is considered COLD around here...

    You forgot the part about going to the Jeep dealership to order the replacement tabs that cover the taillight bolts because it's pretty much guaranteed that you will either lose one or it will come off later and you can't find it... :)

    • @JeepingMo
      @JeepingMo  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Im guessing you lost them? Thanks for viewing, hope the video helped.

      @@JeepingMo -- Oh, how did you ever guess??? LOL... Yep, guilty as charged (on ONE of them SO FAR)...
      Actually, I'm in the process right now of installing the towing harness and I actually FOUND the tab that has been missing since I replaced the bulbs with LED bulbs a few years ago... I determined why I lost it though... One of the clips had broken off and it would not stay attached...

    I recently installed a flat-tow wire harness on my 2019 JL. Will the receiver hitch wire harness connect in series between the flat tow harness plugs and the Jeep factory plugs?

      The harnesses for the brake lights, depending on your weight if you need anything else. I did not install trailer brakes. But I don’t know the weight of what you’re towing and how your rig is outfitted. Thanks for the question
