I purchased my 870 Wingmaster brand new when I was 18 years old (1976) after graduating high school. I still love it and shoot it today. It was made in 1975 and has run flawlessly over the years. Thanks for the video!

Andrew keeps featuring my favorites. He graciously did a video of my Model 31 a few months back and now a clone of my 1975 purchased 870 Magnum that I still have shows up on his bench. Amazing that such a workhorse shotgun is now so valuable.

Very nice! I've got a 1979 20 ga. Magnum w/28'' full barrel. Great guns!

In 1960 my father got an 870 2 3/5/" 30" full choke barrel. I was 10 years old. I still have that gun today, Over the years I'ne added a hastings slug barrel and a 28" barrel with choke tubes and it's still in use.

I have an 870 with no serial number prefix and a slug barrel that is marked Brushmaster but no date code. I figure it is 1968 or earlier but not sure any further. It is one of many different 870s I own. For hunting and trap I use a late 80's- early 90's wingmaster which has a field barrel and a slug barrel. Great guns.

Absolutely bomb proof and super easy to clean and work on yourself. If anyone had to buy one shotgun to do everything it would be the 870.

I have a wing master 870 that was my grandpa's its a 16 gauge I still use it for deer hunting to this day best shot gun made in my opinion I think it was made in the 60s.

I bought an 870 20 gauge in 1977. It was made around 1965 and looked like new when I got it. Dad had an old 870 12 gauge corn cob that was pretty loose that I shot a lot as well. Killed a pheasant at 73 yards once with it. My brother inherited it and when he passed, I bought an 870 corn cob that his wife was selling that looked like new. I left dad's old 870 there with her.
I remember dad told us about all the trap shooters he knew with model 12's that went to 870's after shooting one.

My first shotgun was a gorgeous Wingmaster 12, full choke 30” barrel, left ejecting model made in 1974 I think.
It was slick and immaculate, easy to strip and clean. A true classic, I regret selling it!
Good guns, my Mossberg .410 500 is good, but requires more ‘pump’ to cycle!

870 was my dream shotgun growing up. Ended up with a junk savage and then a Browning BPS. I was never really happy with the Browning. I ended up with a 11-87. Great video on a great gun!

I do believe the wingmaster is superior, but I have also used the express 870s as well for years and they are reliable as well. Hard to beat that old school blueing though.

The 870 wingmaster was my first shotgun. Bought it in 1984. Passed it down to my son now. Didn’t use it much after that stupid steel shot only law came out for waterfowling. Very popular shotgun up here in Canada.

Im restoring a model 31 from February of 1949. Having completely disassembled and reassembled it, i can totally see why it was replaced by the 870. Its a fairly complicated gun (although far better than the model 10). When compared to the 870, theres really no comparison.

I wonder if you could do a video on the old High Standard semi auto shotguns. The 60 and the 66 particularly. I'm currently looking at buying a 66 but know very little about them. I know they were also sold as department store guns but I'm still fascinated by them. Thanks!

For field use, it is awful hard to beat the old style corncob fore end from the 1950's.

hi, what is the lifespan of an ejector on an 870 Wingmaster. It scares me, I have a 1979 870 Wingmaster in new condition. I don't dare use it too much for fear of breaking an ejector and we can no longer replace it...😱

    • @BTORange
      @BTORange  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Mostly they last forever. That said, it's a machine made of parts just like a bicycle or a car. As long as you maintain it properly it will not be an issue. Make sure the barrel is installed properly before you shoot it. Check the ejector spring and housing whenever you clean it. Millions have been made and the percentage of ejectors that have had to be replaced is miniscule compared to those that haven't.

@BTORange thank you for your response. This reassures me.
mine dates from 1979 and it is new, it has fired less than 10 shells. I was told that they were among the best years of manufacture so that reassures me. I don't have the Flexitab conversion which arrived in 1980 to avoid blockages in the event of double feed, but hey I don't think it's a real problem

I question the validity of that 84 given the mismatched forearm color.

I was all in until he crapped on the 870 express...wingmasters had a lot of junk guns too, not all were made equal. Bet if an express was all there was available to him to defend his family he would be singing a different tune.

I have 3 870’s. Two wingmasters from the 1970’s and an express that I bought new in 2001. Both wingmasters are smooth as silk. The express is not smooth at all. The action is stiff and sometimes it’s very hard to load a shell into the magazine. We still use it, but it’s just not as smooth. But I’ll take any 870 I can get my hands on.

But that's not all that's available to him. It's poor quality shotgun compared to pretty much all other American made shotguns.
