Sad Forgotten 185 year old Plantation House Hidden Away in The Woods of North Carolina

- This old plantation farm house was built around 1845-1850 in North Carolina. The original family the house was built for farmed a number of crops as well as owning a lumber mill in town. The mill operated during the civil war until being destroyed by the Union in 1864-1865. There are stories the home was used as a field hospital for a large civil war battle that happened nearby at the very tail end of the war in the winter/ spring of 1865. The house was abandoned in the 1970’s and sat vacant for many years until a restoration was begun in the early 2000’s but then forgotten again sadly. Now it’s almost impossible to even see the house as a large forest has grown up out front of it. Lots of beautiful old details inside. Thanks for watching. So enjoyed the memories of Chewie. She's the outline (especially that tail!!) of my old friend, Rocky Bernard, who's now struggling with life at 15 yo, and every day I wake up to him is a special treat. There is no better company, than our canine angels. I know your heart must be broken. And so life begins anew, in the absence of that loving figure. TY for sharing, Kappy. Gone but not forgotten, like so many old houses whose memories you've carefully preserved.
That house looks like it’s holding up well since your last video. I kinda get the impression it went for 1850 Greek Revival to a renovation c.1910 in the craftsman style. I hope someone can adapt this one for reuse. My condolences on the loss of your beautiful dog. Thanks, Kappy!

Sorry for your loss😢 You were lucky to enjoy her love for all those years. I live alone with my Yorkie. He is 14 years old. I do have 2 sons, but my dog is like a child to me.

This house has terrific bones. Perfect for restoration. Deep pockets needed but much of work can be done by motivated individual with a vision. The roof obviously is in good shape, which preserved the interior. A good roof is most important.
It hurts my heart when I see such magnificent places like this knowing they're abandoned and being left to be reclaimed by the earth. I've seen so many places abandoned that can be restored but aren't. As a disabled 65 year old man that's facing homelessness for the first time in my life I wonder about so many people becoming homeless and yet there are thousands of abandoned homes everywhere... It's crazy.

So sorry for the loss of your puppy dog!! They are so much apart of our families that it’s as hard as losing a human relative…. Took me years to get over the loss of our dog chigger he was like one of my kids 😢 I still tear up when I look at old photos of him…. This house is too gorgeous and really in great shape to be just left n forgotten. Every room is in good condition and staircase..the screen doors are beautiful and a wonderful location with privacy..shame for it to rot down.. thanks for sharin.. wish I could afford it

Sorry for the loss of your sweet dog Chewie. I lost my rescue dog Max in June 2023, a retriever mix, who was 16 years old. Thank you for saving the little bird.

Kappy, if you aren’t opposed to traveling a bit, you should go to a small town in south central Nebraska that has a 7000 sq. ft. mansion, built in 1889, that is scheduled to be torn down in a few months. It is a wonderful old home but the owners cannot afford to restore it and feel like their only option is to offer people the opportunity to come in and salvage the beautiful architectural details from it. Who knows, if the right person saw a video of it, it could be saved! There has been some work done on it already so it isn’t in terrible shape yet.

This house has ginormous windows, bigger than any I've seen before and I've lived in a lot of old houses! So sorry for your loss, you will be together again but the waiting is so hard. Good man, Kappy, you always free the housebound birds!

Well Kappy, now I can tell you you're my favorite TH-cam channel as well. We used to drive around Connecticut on the weekends and look at old empty houses. Some of them weren't always empty that was fun. My mom was a big fan of old houses and always wanted to restore one. Instead she makes new houses look old. That works for her. I'm so sorry about your loss of your dog chewy. I lost my female Pitbull last Labor Day. I can't even move her kennel. I just put clean bedding in it and left it in my room.

Hey Kappy! That was a Carolina Wren. They are nosy little busy bodies who love to nest inside buildings. They're not the smartest birds and sometimes forget where they came in, so they try all the openings until they find the right one.
We have had one exploring our front porch for several springs, though they don't nest there, because of all the foot traffic. In the winter, we put an empty birdhouse on the porch for them to sleep in. They seem to appreciate that, showing us by leaving little gifts all over our rocking chairs!
Aww, Chewie was so sweet to share her life journey with you and Ruby! She was the perfect companion for you! I'm sure you will miss her but you will see her again in Heaven. She'll be busy chasing singing butterflies in meadows filled with singing flowers in colors our eyes cannot see! (Everything having life sings in Heaven, by the way). I've been there, so I know. It's so beautiful when everything sings all together! Chewie will sing, too, and even talk! So many amazing things wait for us there, not the least of which is seeing and meeting the LORD JESUS!
