I was born in 1937 and my parents gave me the name "Diane" after seeing the movie "Seventh Heaven". It is a beautiful song. Thank you for posting it.

Long ago I saw the movie on TV......starring Jimmy Stewart?? Long ago I knew a pianist whose wife was Dianne and he never failed to play it. Bring back some lovely memories. Thanks for the posting. Beautiful voice, plaintiff song..........great to hear both once more.

I heard my first snippet of this song when I was a kid in the early 80s when I first saw "Sunset Boulevard" and fell in love with the melody but didn't know the name of it. I would whistle the small potion I knew constantly. Many years later I heard it again in a Joan Blondell movie from 1932 called "Three On A Match" and it was then that learned the name of the song was "Diane". Lol.

    Thank you Disco79
I really like the film and the song.
I believe you can also hear it in the Billy Wilder film Sunset Boulevard played by the orchestra at Norma Desmond's New Years Eve party.

Yup! That's the song they are playing. It's also in another movie from 1932 called "Three On A Match" starring Joan Blondell, a young Bette Davis and Ann Dvorak. =)

@glawsny: Thank you. BTW-was the Reveleers the same group which competed with the early Bing Crosby group the Rhythm boys on records and radio?

If this is from a 1927 movie I wonder how Melton was "discovered" by Hollywood as he had to be in his early twenties at this time. Anyone know?

Melton was 23 when he recorded this, but was already an experienced saxophonist and vocalist in radio bands led by Gus Haenschen and Frank Black. The latter chose Melton as the tenor replacement for Franklyn Baur in The Revelers when Baur left to pursue an operatic and concert career.
