I think specifically after Dexter told him in S2 "If there's one person I had to choose to be like, it'd be you." he made an unquestionable best friend for life. (even if Dexter himself wasn't aware of it at first) Batista, the good natured empath he is, hearing that from a usually extremely closed-off person like Dexter...that made a huge impression on him. Dexter told him that because he expected to be outed as the Butcher very soon, but because that revelation never came to Batista he took that ball and rolled with it in the natural, way more grounded direction. It's actually funny how Dexter at first didn't understand...I think it first started to click with Dex when Batista had his fling with Laguerta and chose HIM out all people as the only one to confide in. I think Dexter took it until S6 to fully establish the friendship from his side aswell
the way i saw it, was that Batista knew Dexter before he ever met him. Harry would have gone around the department and said about his son, who was super smart and was training to be a surgeon, when he finally met Dexter, he would have assumed more of a friend/mentor role. and Angel saw Dexter become one of the best if not the best blood-spatter analyst there is, and felt a sort of brotherly pride in that. when Harry died, i saw Angel losing his mentor in Harry, and reached a hand out to both Debra and Dexter, knowing that he was there if they needed him. When Dokes was bullying Dexter, Angel was there to make sure Dexter was ok, making it clear how his hard work was appreciated just like a brother would
i also saw Doakes seeing through him, as more of an indication Doakes was more like Dexter....even in the scene shown, it was proven Doakes killed than man by shooting him first...and in the show, Dex could always tell when someone had their own dark passenger.
@@jimmyJames0577 I hope dexter loses his dark passenger like in the books and his good luck plot armour streak turns out to have been that, and THAT is how he gets caught.
There’s also little to convince him otherwise. Doakes was suspicious. As this video showed, Doakes also murdered a suspect, lied to cover his ass, and got violent with Dexter when Dexter’s 100% genuine work product proved Doakes was lying. Batista was already conflicted on Doakes, as his own recollection of events wasn’t matching his partner’s story. What does this mean? The cop fingering Dexter as a killer was proven corrupt, indisputably so given Batista’s first-hand knowledge of a bad shooting and cover-up attempt. The next one to blame Dexter was Maria, whose logical leap was “my corrupt piece of ass Doakes is an angel, so it must have been Dexter” - again, she discredited herself so much that any attempt to pin Dexter would be thrown out in court. It’s a corrupt cop trying to absolve their side piece of blame. Dexter kills someone on camera. Given he pulls a pen out of his chest to do it, it’s 100% undeniable self defense in Florida. Only an idiot would assume Dexter took a pen into an interview with the intent of being stabbed and then killing his attacker in the subsequent scuffle. It turns out to be true, but that’d be a massive leap for the characters in universe, who aren’t privy to Dexter goading the suspect. They agreed it’s self defense because it’s a textbook example. At most there’d be an investigation that just confirms it, meanwhile they’d be down half of the forensics team, at a time with multiple active serial killers. Even Rita is a massive leap in logic. Oh, of course, the Trinity Killer would only kill Rita as a way to get to Dexter - he must be the Bay Harbor Butcher! Based on, what? Were the dozens of other victims all serial killers, too? Totally couldn’t have just targeted a forensic investigator’s family knowing he was working the case, right? That’d be silly!
Bautista was definitely the biggest-hearted of the gang, which is probably why Dexter said he would want to be Bautista [if he could step into reality and out of his trauma], or at least, emulate him. Bautista saw Dexter’s innate innocence. He appears to be someone who hearkens to the good in people (even his ex-wife, whom he seeks to reconcile with in vain).
Batista had good instincts as a cop just liked Debra. He knew that there was a setup during the Ukrainian gangster patsy on the murder of that Bartender. Obviously his long friendship of Dexter he wouldn't suspect him to be a serial killer.
@@Tombob312 your original comment you put “being to trusting and dexter being to convincing” should have been too trusting and too convincing, but in your reply to the other guy you used the correct too…just found it strange
One additional thing that helped add to Dexter's cover that's not really expanded on much is the fact the Morgan family had considerable trust and reputation with the Police Department, Miami Metro Homicide in particular, due to Harry's life long career there. Harry Morgan dedicated his whole life to stopping bad guys, from walking the beat in uniform, to working undercover in Vice, to being one hell of a homicide detective, Harry's dedication, hard work, and since of morals that he wore on his sleeve made him a bit of a legend in the police department both socially and politically. Harry's best friend, Thomas Mathews, wound up being deputy chief for god's sake. Cops consider each other family anyway, but in the Morgans case, the line between blue family and blood family became nonexistent, with Dexter and eventually Deborah joining the same department. Dexter and Deborah both would have been very well received even before anyone from the department could officially meet them, Harry was like everyone's cool uncle, so they would have thought of Dexter and Deborah like their own nephews. Angel, in particular, has a higher sense of moral and ethical responsibility than just about anybody else in the department, largely guided by his faith, but I also like to think for this reason maybe also because Harry may have been a role model for Batista when he was younger and trying to get his detective's shield. Harry and Batista are a lot alike in the regard that they hold honor above almost all else, which is why its not much of a stretch of the imagination to believe Batista looked up to Harry as a sort of father figure within the department, especially considering we know Batista's real father had abuse and alcohol problems. For this reason, Dexter, and Deborah in particular, are considered to be more like Angel's little brother and sister than colleagues. Angel even goes out of his way to call Deb his little sister multiple times throughout the show, and Dexter is no different. He's fiercely loving and protective over both of them, especially after Harry died fairly young for his age from heart failure. This is why I was always most excited and most dreaded about the idea of Batista ever finding out the truth, because more than anyone else in the department, that news would hit and affect Batista the hardest. Harry couldn't handle it. He killed himself when he was faced with the grim reality of what he created, and I think Batista would feel that same level of depression, yet being Catholic, wouldn't be allowed to end it. It would completely change him as a character, forever..
Batista really was a real one - NGL while his presence was really brief in the revival, it was impactful and it hurt me SO MUCH to see him open that email to see a recent picture of someone he saw as a brother whom he thought was deceased. Everyone close to him or who he knew died and Dexter was that key all along. Now seeing how with Dexter Original sin, it's revealing that Dexter may have survived his gun wound from Harrison, going into Resurrection I really do hope it goes the way I'm hoping it will go and it's Dexter having that reunion with Batista- It's gonna hurt like a mother- but for Batista to have that moment and to see where that follows, it's long overdue
It’s because he though they where good friends and he had a strong Bond with debra too so that only amplified it more. Then Harrison came and so did Jamie and he felt even more respekt for Dexter because he treated Jamie nice. Dexter and batista havent had a single fight and they havent argue about anything for several seasons😂
The reason Dexter would be calm on the 911 phone call is because in a moment, like that, a person would act like they normally would kinda going on an idle mode which for dexter would be acting like that.
I really hope the sequel shows Dexter losing his Dark Passenger (as he did in the books) and no longer having the Urge but also becomes this bumbling oaf with bad luck he always pretended to be, dodging responsibility for crimes he technically didn't commit. The D Passenger did. THEN he gets caught lacking the plot armour of the entity protecting him that whole time.
Batista was seen as the nice guy but clueless. He made the same mistake with Lila.
