- What became the last of NXWMs 3-speed Voith Volvos, 4240 is filmed here on route 48A one cold winters morning. This one was unofficially known for being the last to feature the characteristic idle-looping many of these once performed.
4240 was new to Birmingham Central in October 2001, seeing use across the region as BC then operated routes out to Dudley and Stourbridge, transferring to Perry Barr in 2010, and then to West Bromwich in June 2017 as PB lost their allocation of the type. All in all 80 of these were operated by TWM numbered 4225-4304, albeit the last 5 originally new to Dundee. May they rest in peace, they served the West Midlands very well !
Update! As of 12/2/23, it was confirmed that this bus has been sold for preservation, a happy ending for the BU51 era!
This bus was serving route 48A: Bearwood, Adkins Lane Interchange to West Bromwich Bus Station
Via: Warley and Londonderry
Filmed along the entire route in December 2022
Miss these a lot, just happy we have the Gemini’s still, the memories of me catching this as a child on the 52 are nostalgic and grown to love the B7TL’s, was a shame when they all left PB. Least we still have some Voith Gemini’s!
Mhm I’m glad we have those Voith Geminis too, especially with all the Voith Tridents getting withdrawn now !
Goodbye BU51s😢
You sure? I am certain I saw this bus in Sutton Coldfield Fire Station. I'm probably thinking of another B7TL.
If this one has certainly been preserved the owners should paint her into TWM Low Floor.
Yes I’m certain I saw a post from the owner about it. Where it’s located now or the plans I don’t know.
This has been preserved and got announced today
Hence I’ve updated the description to reflect that :)
I didnt like these. They were sluggish and had a really annoying idle
Haha yes the idle was annoying but nonetheless still loved these!
