  • We review the impact of firmware update 6.0414 on the Sony XH90 (also marketed as the BRAVIA X900H in the USA) on the 4K@120Hz blur issue, as well as use two Sony PS5 consoles and two copies of DiRT 5 to see how this affects 4K 120Hz HDMI 2.1 gaming.
Our 55-inch retail units (model number KD-55XH9005) were bought from Richer Sounds Manchester:

It's really starting tick me off that I had the option to buy the Samsung Q80 but went for this one because all of the claims Sony made about HDMI 2.1 on this model. And so far I truly do regret buying the 900H over the Q80. Sony deserves a class action lawsuit if they don't either fix this by next month or offer customers who purchased it an option to get next years model at a discount. It's a good TV but it's frustrating not be able to use it for the reason I bought it.

Could you make a video explaining why you don't think firmware can resolve the issue with the 4k blurriness? At least with my understanding of the issue it's pretty clearly a processing issue, we know the hdmi port can send the correct amount of information required for 4k 120 and we know the processor is strong enough to do 4k 120 so why do you think sony won't be able to fix it with firmware? I think it would make a pretty good video.

Despite its flaws, it's still a great tv for movies and gaming. Anything below x900h's price point is inferior (at least while the 65in was on sale for a grand). For $400 more, yeah, there's other, better options - but you'd probably have to settle for a 55in OLED to top it. That's approx 40% more expensive any way you look at it. And, once you look to oled, you're bound to get a 2 or 5 yr extended warranty; so tack on another 250 - 400.

Unfortunately, that price point usually comes with some sacrifices being what makers consider to be a mid-range budget. In time we will see better and better sets, but for the moment I’ll commend Sony for putting out one of the first sets to offer quite this much as this price point anyway. I’ll upgrade when the tech becomes more commonplace and manufacturing gets 4K @120 fully fleshed out. And that QDOLED thing becomes more affordable.

Thanks for this review Vincent. I purchased the 65 inch version a few days ago based on amazing reviews. Overall, I am pleased with the tv although I have experienced a couple of issues which you may be able to comment on. 1. When trying to mirror from my macbook the screen just goes blank (it works fine mirroring an iphone) and transmitting via youtube app works fine. 2) I have not been lucky enough to find a ps5 console so tried an old ps2 (i know, I want to get back into gaming :)) you see the screen some of the time but when it comes to playing a game it goes blank (tried on hdmi 4 and 1). After watching your review I felt confident that I must still be running old firmware so was dismayed to see I was indeed running version 6.0414..... I would really appreciate your comments! Great video! What I can't seem to wrap my head around is wether this blur occurs with gaming or if it is still present when viewing 4k content in 120hz in general. If someone could clarify this for we I would appreciate it!
Again, great video and a great channel!

As we go fwds all games will show 120 is a compromise. 4K 60 is the real target and likely best experience.

Shouldn't be a compromise when it comes to PC for 4K120fps.

Only racing games and platformers could achieve 4k@120

@@griffindinho5109 even racing games are 1080p 120hz , you can see digital foudry review on it

Even 4k 60 is not possible without compromise.if 60fps is the target then sweet spot for next gen consoles would be somewhere between 1080p 60 and 1440p 60.

I smell a class action lawsuit against Sony because of this TV, I bought this set to use at 120Hz @ 4K and while most things aren't really noticeable some things tend to stand out. It personally doesn't bother me much, but I can see a ton of people being pissed about it

Every class action Ive joined saw me get a coupon or literally a few bucks. Only lawyers seem to win anything significant.
