    Hats off to Sebastian Rivera for taking this match and his coaches allowing it. I haven't seen the rest of the match. But, it's refreshing to see a highly ranked athlete wrestle another highly ranked athlete with all this ducking going on. Good on them. I'm thinking Micic will take it; based on the first takedown that I saw. Not the best for his record, but it's amazing to see when it's about going against the best competition.

    Absolutely love the ethic of stepping up for the challenge - especially with an undefeated record. I would bet that very few, even elite wrestlers, would be willing to do it. Makes me want to pull for Rivera a bit the rest of his career.

    I like Rivera's mindset, but I disagree with the people who say that he'll get better from this. Micic is really good, but this wasn't that competitive of a match. Although wrestling is heavily reliant on technique, sometimes the weight and length difference negates that. As good as Rivera is, he never looked able to finish a shot against the much bigger Micic.

    bumping up might have cost him a win in the ncaa semi finals. Jack Mueller said this was the match he studied to come up with his offensive strategy for that match. If you watch both matches they are almost the same. I give Rivera a ton of credit and i do think he is one of the most improved wrestlers coming from high school to college. He really stepped up his game in every way possible. He has also been a top contender at every single weight class he has went to. Must have a tremendous work either and high intelligence.

You sound ridiculous and like a hater. Size has much to do with it. Micic is a bigger dude than him before and after their cut. Also, Micic is used to wrestling bigger, stronger guys than Rivera is. Rivera is #1 at his weight so he had nothing to prove. He did it for the challenge. The strength and size factor was clear in every scramble. Move along haters...

      You know very well in wrestling that the billed weight isn't a fair indicator. Rivera was wrestling as a 113 pounder as a senior in high school, so he hardly struggles to make 125 lbs. Micic wrestles at 133 lbs, but he'd be 150 lbs if he took a week off from exercising. At minimum, I'd say the difference in weight is 15 lbs.

    The size difference of 1 weight class makes a huge difference and you can clearly see. Rivera never stopped moving but the strength difference between them caused him to be outmuscled every time. More people need to be like this instead of cutting 15 pounds just to get down to the next weight cuz it’s easier

      @rossogden2043 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whoa there grasshopper. Let's not get carried away. Rivera stepped up in a somewhat meaningless duel meet, where the team outcome was pretty much a foregone conclusion. He'll be right back down to 125 for the BIG10 and national tournaments, where the competition is 'easier' for him to win a National title.
      I'm glad to see him challenging himself, and I think this experience will benefit him at Nationals, but make no mistake about it, he'll be sucking back down to 'easier' 125 for the important tournaments.

    • @znhait
      @znhait 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rossogden2043 Rivera doesn't struggle to make 125 lbs. Someone who wrestled at 113 lbs as a senior in high school and struggled to make 106 lbs as a freshman isn't cutting much weight. If there were a 120 lbs weight class, that's probably where he'd be wrestling.

      @@DB-115 This is just my opinion. All due respect to rivera for bumping up but he needs to focus on WINNING. Spenser lee is playing a waiting game and he may be afraid of rivera since rivera is the only one to beat him multiple times. But this decisive loss against micic does not help rivera win the psychological battle of beating lee WHEN IT COUNTS. If these two make the national finals rivera can't lean back on this match and say good thing I took it. Lee wins when it matters so he has one thing on his mind which is the national tournament and staying healthy, not an undefeated record and not trying to be the pound for pound contender for best wrestler(which he already is). This is combat sports and a good big guy always beats a good little guy, which is why there are weight classes.

      @Zayne simard moore Yea true I forgot they're in the same conference. No doubt that Rivera has had a phenomenal season, I just think that a loss could endanger his momentum.

      @@Bo-fc5mn I'm on the contrary.. If he completely got mopped that would be one thing but Rivera hung in there. The only match all season that Micic wrestled where he didn't score bonus points. I feel as if thats a confidence booster if anything.

      @@reggieglubber5420 I don't question Micic beats him 9 out ten times if they were the same weight but the match I watched also showed Micic strength when he got a hold of Rivera he just reeled him in I have to believe it could have been a competitive match without the weight difference Micic still wins but he gets taken down at least once

      I don't quite agree. Micic is mostly technique. He is very slight of build. He is quite slim. Micic is way ahead of most wrestlers in technique that is why he is able to pull them in so easily. He also does it from short distances. He has great balance.

    Oh look at me, I beat Spencer Lee once. Now I think I can beat Micic! You are gonna have a hard time beating Vito Arujau, that’s if you can beat him. You just got out wrestled and out classed. Stay in your own lane...

      Incorrect.. He wanted to challenge himself.. Lee is washed. He may not even be a finalist this year. Piccinnini, Mueller, Vito, Rivera, Bresser all have the tools to take him out.
