Can just see me playing "The Best of Bread" album over and over again on my little record player. I will always love this band and David Gates' voice!! 💕
A song from my youth. One of the joys of listening to a channel like this is that it reminds you of songs you long forgot about, but as soon as the song starts to play, you remember it and it takes you back. Amazing how it can be years and even decades since you've heard a song, but it's in your brain there somewhere and though your conscious mind has lost track of it, it is imprinted in your memory files somewhere deep in your brain. It all comes back so easily. Thanks guys.
As much as we publicly liked harder music that screamed against the world, our young crushes and loves were secretly expressed in the gentle sounds of Bread... these songs really make my eyes well up, pulling out reflective, lonely moments of my youth.
I know Amber enjoys a Romantic Song. One of the most heartfelt songs by Bread is called: Diary,(I Found Her Diary Underneath The Tree), No one has reacted to it, yet Methinks. It's a standout.
Absolutely! I'm catching up on Rob Squad's Bread reactions and plan to suggest Diary on the latest one. It is essential and yet nobody ever reacts to it. When Aubrey came out, I considered it, and still do, a lesser effort in the same musical vein as Diary.
This is one of those songs that takes me back to sitting on my parent's front porch with my (transistor) radio. 1972. I was 17 when this came out:) It was played quite a bit on the radio
Stormy, I was the same age in 1972 and I did exactly the same thing!!! They were the first concert I ever went to and I have been a big, big fan ever since. Such good times!!!
I WAS A HUGE 70s fan .But now I'm in love with the Lord Jesus Christ and he is the BREAD OF LIFE. I hope you come to know him and he you. Have a great day God bless you.
Your appreciation for Bread warms my heart. Like the Carpenters, Bread flew against the grain of where popular music was going from the late 60's through the mid 70's. Where bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd and Queen (too name but a few) blazed a far heavier path. Drowning out Bread and the Carpenters on the big stage, but never in our hearts. Their music has proven too stand the test of time and two young people like yourselves are a testament to that. Bread does have a hard rock song that was a big hit for them titled "Mother Freedom'. You both may want to check it out for another side of Bread. It's a great song. I truly enjoy your reactions. Cheers, RNB
Amen Brotha! I looooove their music soooooo much!!! Growing up in the 70s, I was such a shy, sensitive soul(still am lol) as a little girl, and hearing their songs on the radio, always seemed to touch a very special part of me, and I've never forgotten them. "Goodbye Girl", and "Aubrey" are two of my faves, along with this one of course. They were/are such a special part of the soundtrack of our youth. So nice to see their music come full circle with newer generations, and touch them just as much. Would love to see you guys do more Don Henley as well, he has some beautiful songs as a solo artist as well as with the Eagles. Thank u fam🥰🙏🏽
Mother Freedom, a great song! And there's a great live version by them on youtube. I think that song always gets overlooked because people want to keep them in a soft rock bag.
@@earth2kosmickitty Great memories indeed. Reactions like this give me hope for all of us. My favorite Bread song is 'Everything I Own'. One of the most perfect pieces of music ever put to tape. (IMHO) Cheers, RNB
@@magneto7930 Hi MAGNETO,I think you're 100% correct. As a song, it's a bit more 2 dimensional when compared to their acoustic guitar with strings/ storytelling/tugging of the heart strings super ballads. Everything I Own, Aubrey, If, Make it with You, It Don't Matter to Me, Lost without your Love, Diary, Guitar Man. And then when David Gates went solo, Good-Bye Girl. Ballads at their best. Phenomenal Band. Each member was fantastic. The first album I ever bought was by Bread.
You've done a lot of Bread. Time for you to do some Dan Fogelberg, which is very much in the same vein. "Longer", "Hard to Say", "Leader of the Band", "Run For the Roses"... all of these will give you easy vibes.

Back in the 70's my older sister received the "Baby I'm a Want Ya" album for her birthday from one of my cousins in California. Suffice to say I use to sneak this album from her room and play it whenever she wasn't around. Fun factoid: David Gates of Bread went to the same Will Rogers High school as did musician Leon Russell in Tulas Oklahoma.😃
I must have worn out three 8-track tapes of Best of Bread! Love all their music. They had very few rock songs, mostly love ballads. BUT "Let Your Love Go" is a real banger! Great guitar solo and they even integrated a Bach style harpsichord sound into it, and it really worked great for this piece.
Back in those days of early 90's, I started my sophomore days and all of a sudden a beautiful girl caught my eyes. Within a week I have found that I am deeply fallen but I didn't get a chance to talk to her on that large campus and I was an introvert ! I was thinking about approaching her with this song (playing it somehow to channel my inner feelings). Within few weeks I have found out that I was reading the wrong "Diary" ! Whoah Man ! Aahhh...yes, The beautiful harmonies of Bread. I will never tire of this band, they take me on a beautiful journey, every time👌✨ Here's another one of their songs "Diary - Bread (1972) with Lyrics on screen" I also want to make another suggestion. Here is a live performance "CHICAGO - Jason Sheff joins the band 1985" harmony bands will either put huge grins on your face or cause huge tears to stream down your face...they are simply magical stuff🎺🔥🎶💖🤗
My late husband used to listen to this when he was at sea, he introduced me to it. He was a big rough tough North Sea fisherman, but loved a good soppy love song!
Kenny Loggins' cousin Dave Loggins was a great songwriter who had a big hit on his own with Please Come to Boston, a soft rock classic. Another soft rock classic is It Never Rains in Southern California by Albert Hammonds. Also Come Monday by Jimmy Buffet.
Soft rock is a favorite of mine too, with Bread way up there. The STUDIO version of "Dance With Me" by Orleans is worth a re-listen as well as Neil Young's "Harvest Moon."
Bread is best known for those love ballads, especially the first side of that Best of Bread LP. But they could also rock it, with James Griffin taking the lead vocals on songs like Fancy Dancer, Mother Freedom, Down on My Knees, Take Comfort, and Tecolote.
David Gates, the lead singer of Bread.. also had a strong solo career. His most famous one and number one chart topper is ‘Goodbye Girl’ which is the title song from the Hit movie Goodbye Girl. You got to listen to that one!!
Please play David Gates' solo song from the 1970's movie "The Goodbye Girl". It was an amazing romantic comedy. I think Richard Dreyfuss (JAWS) won the Best Actor Oscar that year for his performance. Marsha Mason played with him and was married to and starred in a lot of her husband's movies. This was one of many. You should also watch the film. Gates vocals are stunning!
Bread has always been a favorite of mine. Their best hits album is fantastic. I suggest for a soft rock sock from one of the best male vocalists out there is Closer to You from Adam Lambert. Just incredible!
Jordan and Amber you may want to listen to Foreigner,-(Double Vision). It's the band's favorite for concerts. Those who have been to a Foreigner concert knows. Keep up with the good work 😎👍
It was a much needed sound during the Vietnam years and being in the military. Groups like Bread, The Hollies, Mama and the Papas, Neil Diamond and even Elton John was very needed to bring the tension down. I loved them all and still get the same emotions that i did back then. Thanks for playing this kind of music.
Such a beautiful song! Grew up hearing Bread as my parents listened to them . Can't go wrong with them. Another great group is Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds. Fallin in Love...great song!
Great reaction! Bread was one of those bands you never let your friends know you liked or had in your record collection. Like, in the 70’s there were vinyl records and there were racks and shelves people bought and placed near their stereos called Hi-Fi’s which were usually in the living room and people would come over and you’d let them pick an album to play. Well, some people had a second collection in a closet or a bedroom that had stuff they didn’t want people knowing about.
This is one of those songs that sticks with you. I hadn't heard it for a minute, but sang every word as it played, thanks. Soft Rock was big in the day. Guitar Man, is fun one. Thanks again for this memory.
Hello from England 🏴👋 Keep up the excellent work on this channel both of you. We lovel of all kinds of 70s music that you preview, and this is no exception with David Gates and Bread 👍
Sick and late tonight, but better late than never. This is such a phenomenal group underestimated I think. Deep in ur soul sound. Thanx y'all I needed this, Blessings
You should really check out Atlanta Rhythm Section or ARS. They have some really cool music, "Imaginary Lover", "So into You" and "Spooky". The Classics IV did "Spooky" first, but ARS does a mighty fine remake.
My sister is five years older than me, and she had a nice library of Bread, Carol King, The Carpenters and such. I never really dug that music back in the late 60's and early 70's. But now I really appreciate it.
This band takes me back to when as a just released young Marine after returning from Vietnam, I was reacquainting myself to my young wife and newborn son. All the uncertainties of life before us, much like The Carpenters sang in their song "We've only just begun." Didn't have much back then, ourselves, our dreams and our music. It was enough. No regrets.
The 70s Soft Rock and Singer/Songwriter era is my favorite of all time. My taste runs wide but that is my favorite without a doubt. Takes me back to my teenage years.
Can just see me playing "The Best of Bread" album over and over again on my little record player. I will always love this band and David Gates' voice!! 💕

I have most of their songs on my playlist. When it comes to love songs and easy listening, you won't get much better than Bread.
This is one of those songs that sticks with you. I hadn't heard it for a minute, but sang every word as it played, thanks. Soft Rock was big in the day. Guitar Man, is fun one. Thanks again for this memory.
Hello from England 🏴👋
Keep up the excellent work on this channel both of you.
We lovel of all kinds of 70s music that you preview, and this is no exception with David Gates and Bread 👍
Hello IBLRG
Sick and late tonight, but better late than never. This is such a phenomenal group underestimated I think. Deep in ur soul sound. Thanx y'all I needed this, Blessings
Man, y’all are KILLIN it today!!!! I love me some Bread, too, Amber!! ❤🎶 Have loved them for decades
Your Bengals WON!!
You should really check out Atlanta Rhythm Section or ARS. They have some really cool music, "Imaginary Lover", "So into You" and "Spooky". The Classics IV did "Spooky" first, but ARS does a mighty fine remake.
Please! ARS and Little River Band (Reminiscing, Lonesome Loser, Cool Change, and many more). Some incredible music from both bands!
Agreed. ARS is a great representation of southern rock.
This is such a beautiful song.
The Goodbye Girl. A must!!!
You guy put me in a time machine every time. Thank you, Bread easy listening genera. Lots of love songs in the 70's
All the uncertainties of life before us, much like The Carpenters sang in their song "We've only just begun."
Didn't have much back then, ourselves, our dreams and our music. It was enough. No regrets.
The 70s Soft Rock and Singer/Songwriter era is my favorite of all time. My taste runs wide but that is my favorite without a doubt. Takes me back to my teenage years.
The look you gave him on the first line!!!!! LOVE IT !!
such a great band, them and America . love this music it creates a calming mood.
What a vocalist. Absolutely stunning voice and so much control.👌🏼 Love Bread!! 🍞
David Gates has the smoothest voice ever. This is the music I grew up on. I was a young teenager when Bread was at its height of popularity.
In the late ‘70s, David Gates had a hit with the song, "Goodbye Girl." It would fit in perfectly with the best of Bread.
Jay & Amber, try "It Don't Matter To Me" by Bread
David started out in a band with Russell Bridges (Leon Russell)
