    I expect that's the first ever Couches Bream caught on video. Well played. I've only just started making a few vids myself so it's good to see others like yourself doing the same. All tips welcome!

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fishwish - I hadn’t thought of that. That would be cool if it was. A friend of mine said that one of my older vids was likely the first ever bonito caught in the uk on camera. 😉😛 If you have any questions/suggestions please give me a message. There are a few of us who help each other out and talk through ideas. Troj, Earl - Gone Fishing. Shore fishing Essex, Dan - Inglorious fishing. There’s some great lads out there. 👍🏻🎣 ( subbed BTW )

      The Fish Locker thanks mate. That’s what’s it’s all about! I’ll look them up and subscribe. Off now to help get a top lad into some fish - took him last week for the first time and he is now totally buzzing to get out again. So much more rewarding than guiding old miserable guys who think they know it all!

    I live on the Trent, 350 metres from the the water in prime Barbel country. I'm originally a North Western lad, (Scouse), who met his East Mids wife at Uni in the East Ridings, just south of your home beaches. All my angling mates from back home and there are lots of them who fish, call me a jammie ****** because I ended up 'living with Barbel at my front door'. Me...., I look at you and understand why they believe as they do, because I still miss the sea 40-50 years after I left it and I think about you as they do me...Jammie Northern f*****. Keep banging them out lad! Your stuff is superb, thanks.

    That couches bream has to be one of the prettiest fish I have seen in our waters! The colour popped when you were reviving it, stunning! There’s plenty of that weed down here to, and the clear stuff that’s like plastic! Great video John !

    • @TheFishLocker

      David Storton - Thats a classic setup for black bream. The swim feeder is a really effective addition to get them feeding. Balaclava neck gaiters are also good sun protection. A must for fishing in Australia. I jinxed myself last night. Went fishing determined to catch a fish. I did. A 4" long bream on a soft plastic lure of the same size. My bait rod produced bites but no fish. It was very cold here last night. Amazed I did not catch a cold! Solunar ( tides4fishing.com/au/new-south-wales/swansea#_fishing_sites) indicated an excellent day for fishing. I did my bit. I fed the fish & left the big ones for others to catch :)

    As annoying as they are, I have always had a fascination with Eels. Since while playing in the dunes at 'Wells next the Sea' in Norfolk as a small kid on holiday at my Uncles, I found eels coming out of the drains, wriggling through the grass and making their way into the sea. My Mum who was a font of knowledge re all things nature related, went on to tell me how all eels originate in the 'Sargasso Sea' in The Bermuda Triangle and somewhat like Salmon return there to breed before making the long journey back to their home waters. Sadly due to over fishing and the Elvers being a delicacy, their numbers are now diminishing.

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      - They are a fascinating species -and much is still not known about them. It is rumoured that they do swim to the Sargasso sea to breed but it isn't yet proven. And yes, I have also found them crossing land on damp nights making their way to water. Crazy isn't it.

      @barlow2976 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheFishLocker Recently a study did prove (using trackers) that a good proportion of european eels do make it to the Sargasso sea, but it is believed there are other breeding grounds. It may have something to do with the salinity, and therefore specific gravity, of the seawater, but as you say they are still cloaked in mystery. I remember seeing the sunken hull of a steel boat in the Fowey estuary (I think) full of trapped glass eels one childhood holiday. There were hundreds of birds diving on them, but there must have been millions (literally) of tiny eels. The flood was only half hour away, and off the survivors went, up river.At today's prices (they go for £1000 kilo for export to Chinese eel farms) that hull must have contained a million quid's worth, at least. What have we done to this planet?
