    Definitely run the net mate. Much easier to control the fish on a steep bank or while you muck around getting stuff setup for a photo. I’m running a smaller net with a carabiner that I can clip to the pack or just carry 👍🏼

    Love the safety first approach to the lip grips on the Murray cod fullas. Don’t wanna jeopardise that hand model Career

    Jacko a great collection of catches for the start of the season. I carry a net attached to the backpack. Try the Berkley classic folding telescopic catch and release net. 1.26m extended, 0.84m when retracted, or just the Classic retractable, non-folding net: 1.42m extended, .83m retracted. Just use a carabiner to attach to your backpack.

    yeah mate i dumped the lip grips long ago. i carry really gud gloves but also a net. i use the shimano environet large 500 for the bank. i made a change to the handle where i push a quick release n the handle folds up while on the daypak n a push of the quick release n the net opens n locks. its not to bad to carry but its better than lip grips. it is a little cumbersome for the bigger fish to net but slow n steady can keep the fish calmer n i usually get the win. if they buck a bit i just hold the net until everything calms down. i know frabill make quality folding nets n there US made. nice sesh lads with quality river cod.

    G’day Jakko. Great video, mate!
    Good to see Blake catching a couple of decent ones too.
    I’m no expert at all, concerning lip grips and nets. However, my two cents worth would be, go the collapsible net, then use those plastic lip grips to hold the cod while you remove the trebles/hooks. That way, even if those lip grips fail, you still have the reassurance of the net.

    Another cracking video mate!
    I’ve gone to a aluminium net, I’ve cut a hole in the side pocket of my backpack so I can slip it in and out really quick and easy, it’s been great not heavy at all and not to big or small.
    What river is this looks so good!?

    I have the same issue with the metal ones, they do tear holes in the fishes mouth, but don't trust the plastic ones enough if I get a nice fish.. it's hard

    Haven’t found any decent lip grips mate, I got 2 metery a few days ago and both fish busted out a couple of times, i use those stainless ones. I usually get the hooks out then grab them by hand, haven’t seen a good set yet.

    I really like your Videos and you are a nice guy BUT what's your problem with that carp. just unhook him in the water and let him swim. Don't mistreat him like that -.- Is fish handling not so important in Australia. We in Europe use soft, wet unhooking mats for carp to not damage them.
    Murray Cod is clearly a bucket list fish and I hope that I will have the chance to catch one one day.

    • @JakkoDavis
      @JakkoDavis  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Undertstand mate but carp are a massive pest in Australia unfortunatly. They have huge negative effects on our waterways which is why none go back alive. That fish was put out of its misery right away

    I feel your pain with lip grips! Currently on my third set of plastic style grips and they’re starting to get tired, I am at the point where I bought another set of metal ones with the intention of trying to modify them by to make the jaws wider at the bottom similar to the plastic style. Keen to know if you find a good backpack friendly net. Few awesome sessions there mate👍🏼

    Just sent you a message on instagram in more detail but the chain gloves that butchers use will save your hands from almost anything and they wont hurt the fish either
