i love how the strand subjugator does a slight bow/nod after beating gaurdians shows abit of grace and honor sort of like "good fight there" they will be fun to fight i think
The Tormentors, when they were first introduced, were absolutely terrifying and I loved how much of their design was a surprise! Absolutely memorable mission in "First Contact"! I want to feel that again when encountering the Dread for the first time, although with Bungie revealing all of them now, I kinda think that's not gonna happen again. Perhaps they're revealing them now to show to their fans that after Lightfall's general failure, they know what's at stake, it's the final chapter of this 10-year long story arc... They need to prove that this story's ending will be compelling and not a cash grab. I guess that feeling of surprise will have to wait for the first Final Shape raid... Oh well.
I do not think the Witness ever 'engineered' successfully the Scorn into the Dread, and not the Hive either, but he DID with their Worms which pilot the Husk!
there seems to be a big debate on whether the husks are reshaped Scorn with worm larvae as a result of rhulk’s experiments, or if they are simply reshaped Hive. or maybe they’re a mix of the 2 species since there’s evidence for both sides of the argument.
Watched a video about the dread and what their origin may be, and my main theory is that each being is what happens to alien races that meet the darkness, consumed and turned into these beasts. Rhulks people the Subjugators, Tormentors are Nezerecs kind, The attendent and weaver are the psion rebellion, the grim are an unknown race consumed by the darkness, and husks are hive warriors consumed, their worms turning into gheists…
Would be really neat to see them expand upon the possible enemy types for the Dread, borrowing more from the various other races. Like a Fallen/Scorn thats been taken over by Stasis, or a twisted Vex shell that's overflowing with Darkness. Heck I wanna see what a proper Cabal Dread would be(unless thats what a Tormentor turns out to be) Like it doesnt need to be like the Taken, various variants, but I do wanna see what the Witness imagines the ideal form of each race would be
I honestly believe that the grim were based on one of the many other disciples. I often wonder how many disciples the Witness had other than Rhulk and Nezarec. From the inspiral lore book there was one entry that hinted another disciple that questioned on what the final shape truly is. Perhaps the grim what the race of this Disciple might've looked like.
Always said it was the so called clones on these ships we would fight really cool to see that finally. Dred and everything pyramid themed now is truly amazing and so freaking cool.
No, these are the enemies for example the Psions (Bungie straight up said this) that have been turned into what The Witness believes to be ITS final perfect shape and it’s most definitely done this to the hive (husks), Tormentors being Nezzy people and subjegators being Rhulks
The new lore seems to imply that some of the precursors species will show up in game at some point but I'd have to assume it won't happen until after the Final Shape & they probably won't be antagonistic
I love the fact that that Bungie didn't make a variant, or some zombified variant of a previous faction, or a hollowed out version of a multitude of factions, they made a whole new enemy faction.
After the final shape bungie needs to make more dread units inspire by some of the other fractions. If Destiny 3 is gonna be made according to some rumors the dread need to return
I've always seen Destiny 2 the way The Final Shape comes out. It's amazing that we're finally getting a full-fledged new enemy race. I can't wait for June 4th)
subjugators the witness probably based them off rhulk his first and from our experience and maybe the best disciple he had like he wanted to replicate the precision and combat skills rhulk had with extra powers Husk could probably be reformed hive as their hands, limbs, and even the Geist matches the hive, the witness could’ve taken weak hive like acolytes and made them into the husk like the weaver and attendants being reformed psions The grim seem to be original things the witness made cause we don’t really have anything that matches them like weavers or husks Tormentors look like nezerac but keep in mind the nezerac we see isn’t his true from it’s a mix of light/dark while his head is the only original part. Maybe nezerac true form resembles tormentors as they mirror his attacks so it’s probably What can be scary about nezerac and the dread is nezerac is still alive in a psychic existence so if we take out the witness could he take command over the dread and possibly make them forge a new body for him as there’s still chunks of nezerac that we have, this would be a cool way to rope nezerac back in and get his true form revealed
I wonder if they will still do a 3rd darkness subclass eventually 🤔 prism looks good, but I thought we would get resonance based subclasses eventually. Seems like sound/sonic resonance is a darkness ability.
i would love to know why Bungie went with Geist because that's just German for Ghost so i wonder how they'll translate that with the release and what this means overall are they some kind of related to our ghosts ?
I would not put it past the Witness to take some of his own people (perhaps those who were defeated by the 'Concensus' of the Precursors) and turned into some of the Dread, like the Tormentors and Subjugators??
ya know if bunngie were smart they could have had the humans that were captured during lightfall story in the seasonal event made into a human enemy dread members which would have given a reason for why the witness was capturing humans and saved the point of that event and part of lightfall's story
It’s noteworthy that Tormentors only showed up after he became a Disciple of the Witness… Does the Witness need Disciples anymore if it has the means to clone them?
So my thinking is this. The witeness is a destroyer can't make anything rlly new. All the minions of the witness are essentially engineered/cyborgs made from the more powerful of the people's they have assimilated. Even calus just got cybernetic upgrades. I'll throw way back to the Drifters tales of deep space, said he encountered the headless bodies of aliens frozen like we've seen in those amber blocks.
@@eeveeofalltrades4780rather hard to converge a hive mind that already converges onto itself, more onto it the Vex only found the witness by trying to replicate the Veil so in essence they are more “sacrifical robot” soldiers.
It’s a little bit funny how we went from Blackburn telling us that the players don’t actually want a new race, but instead just majors like subjugators, to suddenly Bungie pulling a new race out of who knows where.

vex sole deceive: let me get this straight, we'v been worshipping you since D1, and it was psions you chose to incorporate into your dark army? THE PSION??? witness: ummm....when i create the final shape, all will be in my image....
From a gameplay perspective I honestly feel like this too little too late. This is what should've been inside the pyramids from the very beginning, not the same enemies we've been fighting since d1.
I’ve noticed the Dread use darkness elements and is a possible clue that resonance is the 3rd darkness subclass. Dread enemies and the element they use. Grim: Resonance Husk: Resonance Stasis Subjugator: Stasis Strand subjugator: Strand Weaver: Strand Attendant: Stasis Resonance is the sound vibrations in objects and our earth has a resonance harmony. The Grim use a sonic blast to shoot resonance energy at us so resonance (sound) might be the 3rd darkness subclass
Only taken end of a 2nd game for an actual new enemy and even then half of them are a boss reskin really 😂 and they copy hive alot and pretty fallen looking in most cases

Just a note, you got the Weaver and Attendant backwards. Weavers *weave* strand, Attendants use stasis.

Bungie revealed the tormentors before release as well and still managed to surprise us with how intimidating they were

Caretaker is a scorn dread SO its a matter of time. Cabal are on the way to become a dread.

The Witness has definitely taken inspiration from it's greatest disciples when it was creating the dread.
