  • I'm impressed by the newest champion's fundamentals, especially SKY Woodward, Shane Van Boening and Fedor Gorst.
    My martial arts and pocket mentor Dalton Leong told me over and over to "Find Your Center" if you're going to become a world champion player.💪
    In this video I show a DRILL to find Your Center.....when you practice what I demonstrate your game will improve*, not only your shot-making, your feel, touch and instinct for the game will be enhanced.
    *(practice this Drill at least 20 min 3-5 days in a row if possible)
    At the highest level you'll feel like you are not playing the Game, the Game is performing Through You.🔥
    The Game is the Teacher
    To learn more about my champion level fundamentals, techniques and systems join me at www.masteringpocketbilliards.com
    special thanks to Chad Godfrey at the Speakeazy Billiards in Sanford NC for helping with the camera work, much appreciated 💯

    CJ this was something you showed me once, a few years ago at Buffalos and I could never quite remember what it was. What I definitely remember was that this little adjustment to my stance, and centering up my body the way you’re showing in this video, made an instant and dramatic improvement in my shotmaking accuracy. At least for me this is probably the best ‘tip’ I’ve ever got that really showed immediate and dramatic results in my game. Thanks for making this video CJ - for what it’s worth, I’ve always bragged on ya for being a great teacher (and player) of the game and this is a great example of that!

    Back in the game in retirement and am hooked. I’m trying this stance hoping it can cure other fundamentals that need tweaking (elbow, wrist location, consistent straight stroke etc). One thing I notice with this stance is how close cue hand is to my body/waist. There are so many stance opinions where there’s so much more space between the stroke hand and body. Just making sure I’m doing this correctly. Love your stuff so far.

      The distance between your right hand and hip/body can be increased by turning your right foot more (90 degrees is max) - also MAKE SURE your left foot is In Front of your right toe so your hips are automatically turned to the right so they clear out of the way when you go down on the shot.

    Hi Cj, I watch a lot of pool videos. And I have to say this video has helped me more than any I have watched, bar none!!!!!!!!!!!! I do the mighty X drill when I first start my play/drills. And I have had the toughest time doing just a plain stop shot. My cue ball is always moving after contact with the object ball. After hitting some balls in the side pocket like the way you start, I move to the X drill. Short distance at first then worked my way to the longer shots, and what a difference your technique has made. I'm able to do an almost perfect stop shot now. It still needs some more work, but now I'm on the right path. I'll be watching more of your videos, but I just wanted to say Thank you for giving me another tool to work with.

    Great presentation, CJ. Several years ago, I took a three hour lesson from you at Big Dogs in Des Moines and you introduced me to your Touch of Inside concept. It took me quite a while to completely grasp the concept and effectively apply it to my game. But now I consider it one of the most valuable and useful pieces of information since I started playing pool. There is one extremely nuanced factor CJ is talking about here - and it is related to vision center. With the way he says put the cue out in front of you he is exactly right about that ending up being your vision center. At first this confused me a bit, but he is right.
    If your vision center is under the right eye, if you do as CJ says, then when you get down that is where the cue is going to end up as long as you don't cock your head in a really weird way. The same goes for any vision center that you might have.
    Over the years I have struggled with eye alignment and body alignment - they have to be in unison - but this makes total sense. My wife, who has a different vision center that I have, just tried what CJ shows here and when she got down on the shot everything was aligned well and the cue was under her vision center.
    This seems like an easier way to get down on the shot properly. And by the way, when CJ talks about Fedor Gorst doing what he does - he is exactly right. But you see others like Ko Ping Chung do very similar things. I think everyone should give this a try.

    My observation, having put your approach into practice for the past several months is that if I start from my body centered but with my feet close together then I only have to step forward with my left foot, parallel to the target line. If I were to start with my feet apart (as your video suggests), then I have to step back first with my right foot to get it on line. It’s easier and more precise to start with my feet together because my right foot is already on the proper line. Your thoughts?

    • @cjwiley1541
      @cjwiley1541  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It doesn't matter that much about the distance between your feet, what IS essential is to start with your Left Foot in Front of your Right Toe so your hips are automatically turned to the left so your Hips Clear without any twisting - you are probably twisting your hips out of the way without realizing it if you've Not doing this foot position.

    • @davidparker781
      @davidparker781 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cjwiley1541 my left foot position is good but on some shots I do find I twist my hips into position rather than just squatting straight down. When I squat straight down into position, it does seem to prevent the butt of the cue from coming a little from the inside. The problem now seems to be having an awareness not to twist the hips without becoming too mechanical in my thinking. Thanks.

    • @cjwiley1541
      @cjwiley1541  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidparker781 I wouldn't recommend squatting, if you get your feet correct you can just push your hips back to go down to the shooting position. Keep the flex in your knees the same, again, it's vital to start out in the body/feet position I described.

Ronnie places the cue right under his chin between his eyes, and that stance moves his hip out of the way. • @cjwiley1541
      @cjwiley1541  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ronnie gets great results but he's in more of a snooker stance - a lot of players put the cue on their chin because they start very young and aren't tall....I stood on a Pepsi crate so never had to get that low....I'm glad it puts less stress on my body.

      I'm not sure what you mean exactly, one you find your starting position Center to Center just step out with your left foot (and forward if you want but never back) and push your hips straight back which will make your head go straight down to the cueball.....don't try to aim from there instead FEEL the angle with your mind, eyes and body + Create the Shot rather than just visually seeing it and always watch the object ball hit the pocket never the cueball after contact.

      @@cjwiley1541 got it champ so we push the hip back and push our arm back as well as we get down for the shot right?

    I copied your Sky Woodward trick and won my Masters match 7-1 lol
    I one stroked everything and only missed like 2 balls all set, and 1 was a money ball with an awkward angle and thats why i didnt win 7-0

      The Game is so much easier when we develop this technique of Shooting out of our Center - better aiming, position play and connection to the targets.....it's worth it's weight in gold, glad you're benefiting you game and pool life - the Game is the Teacher 💪

    Hi CJ I am using the toi system but I have a question do you ever use outside English on any shots or do you always make the TOI work on every shot

    • @cjwiley1541
      @cjwiley1541  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes there's times you'll have to use outside English, usually to change the angle off a rail.

    I am right eye dominant and play left handed. Is that an issue? I have heard of a left handed player switching permanently to right hand playing due to this. What are your thoughts?

    • @cjwiley1541
      @cjwiley1541  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't think it matters when finding your Center - when you come down on the shot you may favor your right eye but that happens naturally - I'm almost in the Center and Earl Strickland is severely on his right eye.....think of your eyes working Together, you'll play better with two than you will with one. (Bobby Jones the legendary golfer actually said that first).

    hi my vision centre is to the right of my nose how would this work for me ...
    ,had a thing called sight right and shows your true line of sight

    • @cjwiley1541
      @cjwiley1541  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It doesn't matter, just put the shaft in the center of your vision - when you get down on the shot you will favor your right side automatically, it's the starting position that's most important, that's where you Align , Aim and plan your shot.

    My vision center is a lot off to the left because of the way my eyes work (or don't work;super dominant left eye), so how can this help me when my center isn't centered??

    • @cjwiley1541
      @cjwiley1541  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You only have to find Your center so it's the line of sight that your eyes work best together.

    • @danender5555

      Exactly as me... I am right handed with left dominant eye. My vision center is shifted to the left, so as right handed player I had to adjust my stance by moving my right foot more to the right, so my vision center, chest, cue and shooting line are all at the very same plane.
      BTW, I also used a laser level to prove to myself that I was way off centered, having a bad stance habit all the time... had struggled with consistency for years, asking myself many times, what am I doing wrong.

    • @cjwiley1541
      @cjwiley1541  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would be surprised if your chest is in the center of your Alignment line....next time you go up to a shot place the butt of your cue to the center of your chest and let the cue go straight and level so you have a reference for your alignment.....you'll see the line you're seeing is an illusion....I can fix this in person but it's difficult in writing or even on video.
      Watch my Centering video on this TH-cam channel and keep fine-tuning your alignment.

      Bull Carbon 11.8mm it's the first Carbon that plays like a great wood shaft - it's deadly accurate and the deflection rate is ideal for me although there are shots I have to alter slightly because the response off the cueball is sensitive because of the extra power.
