  • New Zealand Finalist 2010 BI World Superyacht Awards 'Refit of the Year'

For the first time a New Zealand entry was submitted in these prestigious awards, competing against the World's leading Refit Yards. The classic superyacht 'Shenandoah of Sark' a 54m, three masted schooner was selected as a finalist.

The project was completed over a six month period by Auckland Refit Yard Orams Marine Services. Executive Director of the NZ Marine Industry Association, Peter Busfield, commented "To be judged a finalist in the World Superyacht Awards is a notable achievement. It also acknowledges the strength of the New Zealand Marine capability in this growing sector of the superyacht industry."

The following DVD footage shows Shenandoah carrying out Sea trials on Auckland's Hauraki Gulf following the completed Refit.

The inclusive photos show various stages of the Refit
    both during and after completion.

The refit work involved many complex challenges and there were noteworthy works on a wide range of systems and equipment.

On any given day there would be well over 50 workers involved in the project and labor alone totaled in excess of 65,000 man hours.

worked on this re - fit at McMullan & Wing boat yard in Mt. Wellington, Auckland. All the holes in the hull and the pipe work fittings were done by me and with another chap we put the figurehead of the Redskin Indian of the Shenandoah Valley back in it's place. When I boxed it in I have a feeling I left a rafter square in the space in which the figurehead was put. This was a deeply satisfying job as I came to the end of my working life and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Got on well with most people and as a Plater, this was the first time I had worked on a boat. Coming from Tyneside, where we were the undoubted leaders in Marine Engineering, it was like a home coming in terms of my working culture. Edd

I assume she was originally a riveted hull. I would also assume, at least once in her life, she's been re-plated and is now a welded hull?
